Yogi at Amritsar

Recommended Posts

Was just watching a BOS video and bhai Jagraj Singh briefly narrated the story of how Sikhs during the time of Guru Arjan Dev Ji were digging at Amrtisar and as they kept on digging they discovered a meditating yogi underground. The Sikhs woke him up from his samadhi and he asked them if this is the age of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Sikhs said yes its the age of Guru Nanak Dev ji but Guru Ji has left and that Guru Ram Das Ji is here now. The yogi then took amrit from Guru Ram Das ji and passed away, got mukti. So the yogi had been meditating on Waheguru ji and waiting for Guru Nanak Dev Ji for 1000s of years and when he took amrit from Guru sahib he got mukti and left his body.

This is the first time i heard this sakhi   It is a beautiful sakhi    anyone know more about it?

I read how when Baba Deep Singh Ji met Guru Gobind Singh Ji  someone from sangat said something like how young Baba ji is, Guru Gobind Singh ji then said that Baba Deep Singh Ji is not young and that he is 1000s and 1000s of years old and has been gone through life after life searching for him and that he has finally met him.

Sikh Ithihas is full of these types of sakhia.

I'm pretty sure that Gurdwara Santokhsar now stands at the place that this event took place. Its tradition that when Sikhs go to Sri Amritsar on a yatra, they'll visit Ramsar, Santoksar, Bibeksar, Kolsar and then Darbar Sahib.

If you have time, then I'd suggest listening to the ongoing katha by Bhai Vishal Singh centred on Sikh Ithihas from the Gurus's era. Bhai Sahib narrates sakhia from Gur Partap Suraj Granth on a daily basis I think. They're normally on Sangat TV but available on Youtube as well.

Yes Guru Amar Das Ji called the Yogi "Santokha" and spot where Dome was dug, a gurudwara called "Santokhsar" stands there.

Bhai Santokh Ji was originally from previous jug and requested his Guru to give him mukht (or reunite him with God after death). However, this Guru replied I don't have that power, but Guru Nanak will come and give u mukht. So, Bhai ji dug the spot n secluded himself in a dome waiting for Guru Ji.

Yes to have so much santokh! Then surviving thru everything. He was massaged to help get his breathing back down, as he was breathing in his head (Dasam Duwaar).

yeah!  all that faith and patience in guru sahib, dnt think there are many people who are like that today. These days patience lasts around 1 min and people snap, and faith in waheguru is like a challenge or a deal these days, people dnt get one thing and they start questioning the existence of waheguru, imagine having so much faith and patience that you do tapasya for 1000s of years waiting for that union.

i'll try and go gurdwara santoksar sahib nxt time i go india,  amritsar is a bit far from where we live and once where there everyone is like "chalo chalo chiti kar"     and they just want to quickly get it over and done with    really annoying.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
