Should we still use the Khanda Symbol?

Recommended Posts

  • The title was changed to Origin/Evolution of Khanda Symbol

ok....i did a little digging and found an old thread:

The conclusion that I drew from this was that the khanda most likely originated from a variation used in the british times and evolved since to what we have today.

My question now is: should we still use the khanda or revert back to more puratan symbols?

It's not from Gadar movement?

The modern Khanda as we see it today was influenced by the Brits.

It is put together in a similar way you see the goreh put their coat of arms.

The traditional way was separate. I think the poster Not2Cool2Argue has it on his moniker.

Right...i think it looks something like what's on this nishan sahib:

But I dont think this was widely used as a standard sikh symbol. Instead ੴ was used more often...

Original Nishan Sahib being what it is, we still didn't really answer the question how did the Khanda symbol emerge?

We know it changed. We know the pommies were around. I've yet to hear concrete references that the pommies changed it or influenced it changing.

From what I heard it was kind of formulated from letters. Sikhs from foreign countries used to send letters back home that had different variations of the modern day Khanda. After a while it became to what we have today and became the standard.
