Singh attacked in Brooklyn

Recommended Posts

We should put it together based on something by BOS and then add quotes about black folk from Guru Gobind Singh Maharajah, and draw parallels between the martyrs of the civil rights movement and the Guru Sahiban and end it with an assertion we are allies in Dharam Yudh. Encourage them to simultaneously turn inward according to their existing practices and enhance their own cultural centers as well as invitation to become Gursikhs and join or start Jathas.

In the 70s/80s and even early 90s where I lived, there was also conflicts between browns and blacks. I know for a fact that the reputation of cowardice that many 'asians' conformed to in face of earlier attacks by skinheads, did not help.  It was this reputation (usually fueled by parent's fears and instructions to their children to meekly try and walk away from any abuse, verbal or physical)  that actually brought more unwanted attention our way than before. Once people behave like this en masse and a rep forms, you get targeted.

In tougher urban areas, cultures frequently seem to develop that prize and exalt physically brave, and even somewhat reckless behaviour. Reputations mean a lot.    If apnay are getting to be known as timid, yellow cab drivers, coupled with the usual 'mistaken identity' issues with Bin Laden  - we'll feel the contempt and people will at least occasionally act on it.

Mostly black and irish relations have been very good in the united states, but at times, when confined in poverty ridden ghettos together tensions would arise from lack.

If someone has the impression that someone can be punked they do it on the street, they don't run into hotels high as .... And hit the only Singh with a hammer. It makes zero sense.

Tribalism frequently comes up in built up, working class environments. I know Italians and blacks have had serious conflicts in adjacent neighborhoods previously in the US. I think poverty and being packed together are perfect conditions to harden people, increase psychological distancing through tribalism and exclusion as well as increase sociopathic/psychopathic tendencies. If you walk into that context all ladidaa - it can get sticky - you'll get noticed and targeted.

I think the proliferation of grooming here in the UK worked that way too - the woefully inadequate reaction to it (by communities and the police), just emboldened perpetrators.

The guy in the video got off lucky, his dastaar protected him. I've seen images of apnay in infinitely worse conditions after attacks in the US.
