sorry.. forgive me if i sound madd confused.. i haven't read the last few posts...

but what do you all consider as 'PUB'...

'cause basically it seems like everybody has a different version of it.... by what randip singh is sayin... it sounds like a Restaurant.. i.e. East Side Marios, Boston Pizza, Pizza Hut etc.... those places are like dining places... but many have a bar side to it which is in a diff section of the restaurant... personally i see no harm in goin to those restaurants 'cause i myself go...

but..what I personally consider a PUB to be is basically a bar/lounge with pool tables and booths to eat... i.e. the ones at uni's and colleges... basically where people are smoking and drinking openly.... and it is just one room.. i.e. no separation between people who are juicin n smokin it up and everybody else.. tha's a lil iffy.. i wouldn't wanna go in there 'cause i can't stand the smell of either liquor or smoke..

and i THINK tha's what most others consider to be a pub... i'm not sure if the UK or US has a different concept of PUB.. but.. for the most part in canada we think of a PUB to be what i described above (or it could just be me )...

please correct me if i'm wrong..

There are several types of Pubs and Clubs.

Pubs can be sleazy drinking dens, or family orientated place like Harvesters, or country pubs, which are the focal point of the community.

Clubs can be sleazy strip places or soul, jazzz and comedy places.

There are also bars where they specialise in live music.

I have no problem with people drinking around me (provided they dont act like idiots, mind you some sober people act like idiots ).

My recolection of Uni days was that I was an active member of societies (not just the Sikh), infact I was elected the Societies President (amongst groups that were predominantly white). I had no problems in the meeting we had in the bars or other Union Facilities, if they wanted to drink then that was up to them. If I had shut myself in a Gurudwara, I doubt if anyone of those society members would have known a Sikh, or that I would have become President of the Societies Committee.

I would say.......question your motivations for going to any place. Is it based on the 5 vices?

Rajinder Singh, don’t be daft. Why don’t you buy your kids a car for their 5th birthday? Let them drive around in their own car? BTW I have no problem taking my kids for a Sunday Lunch to a Harvester or a country pub. I wouldn't go to any of the sleazy places that most "Sikh" people drink at (eg Soho Road and Smethwick).

I have met some of the most corrupt lewd perverted people in pubs and Gurudwara’s. Probably more in the latter!

Just going to the Gurudwara will not make me a good “Sikh” and going to a Harvester or Wacky warehouse occaisionally with my kids does not make me a bad “Sikh”! :TH:

OK now I think we have got something big cleared up, I was talking abt the pubs and clubs the youth hang out at and ur talking abt places like Garfunkels lol which I go to so ur type of pubs are not 'bad' lol, end of convo I guess cos misunderstanding sorted.

Abt the school the point I was making was that we arent cutting ourselves from non sikhs as Raju seemed to suggest, went to a mixed school, course its good to learn abt others. I was saying it as a good thing .

On ur reply to Rajinder's post, true point, u have to take ur kids everywhere, they need to see the world and live there and then make their decision as to what direction then take in life. Unfortunately a lot of pervs everywhere but sometimes I think the ones at the Gurdwara are really the bad ones, come across as something else and are really something else, at least when u go out u know what type of bloke to expect to bump into.

To put it simply and straight, i have not heard or know of a SINGLE gurmukh who attends these places. be they clubs or harvestor pubs. simple.

NOT ONE! and yes i do not know everyone in the world, however nobody else i have come across seems to know of a SINGLE TRUE GURMUKH, Sant, bhramgianni etc who goes to such places... those that i have met have always spoken against going to such places!

I will take their advice and my understanding of gurbani and rehat and choose not to go into such venues.

But if you wish to do so then, you continue for whatever reasons you feel are appropriate!

By the way your picture is of Sant Ji am i correct? Just that you never answered it when i asked earlier and was wondering how you could use the pic of such a 'talibanistic' guy who even advised singhs not to go into cinemas never mind pubs and bars!? Chalo your choice brother.

I totally stand with Manvir Singh's thoughts on this issue! And well done to our brother for writing a piece which is very true and appropriate. To the younger brothers and sisters on this forum, ask the gursikhs around you and see what they say. Unfortunetly many are not on fourms and dont fancy such arguments and as such the discussions are left to people like us!

But, if you are serious about developing your sikhi and your bhagti then try and avoid these places, they will not help you and many of you will feel sick when your there as deep down you will know that this is not somewhere that a son of daughter of guru gobind singh ji should be!

Other than Uni is a great place to expand on your bhagti, via simran sessions, amritvele, rehras paths together in the eveings, kirtan, seva etc. The more of this the better, the less of the clubbing and pubbing the better! :TH:

yeah, pubs are way better than gurdwara just coz bibi jagir kaur is in SGPC IN PANJAB.. (dont see any logic in that.) Let go to pubs, lets forget the fact taht urine samples were found in peanuts (ITS TRUE) and taht people dirnk in it. ofcourse how can gurdwara be good?! its got the likes of badal n tohra in PANJAB. Therefore all gurdwaras = manmat. SOO TRUE!!
