Guru Nanak Dev Ji visited Ceylon, where he took his seat in Raja Shivnabh's garden. At that time it was barren, but it is said to have become green on the Guru's arrival. The gardener requested the king to go and see the faqir who had caused the withered garden to bloom anew. The king sent beautiful damsels to dance before the Guru and tempt him with their charms. The Guru, wrapped up in his own thoughts, neither spoke to them nor noticed them. The king came and inquired his name, caste, and whether he was a Jogi. The Guru replied as follows:- The Jogi who is associated with the Name and is pure, has not a particle of uncleanness. He who keeps with him the name of th…

Sat Shri Akaal and Hi to everyone. I have newly registered for hope of some of my questions to be answered. My fiance is Punjabi Sikh and I am american. I know a lot about sikhism (not all of course) but i love the ideas and I am fully open to it. I just consider myself Indian at heart, I think I was born in the wrong country! Anyway, I never had strong convictions in religion until I started exploring Sikhism, so it is becoming very important to me. Do i technically need to "convert" to Sikhism or can I just proclaim it my own religion... is there any special actions besides following the Sikh ways that i need to do to become Sikh? Also, My fiance is in India…

When it was time for the Emperor to visit Agra he invited the Guru to accompany him. The Guru after repeated invitations, at last consented, As they were hunting on the way, the Emperor took the opportunity of telling him what people were saying against him—' O Guru, my ministers and staff tell me that, although you in reality to have no connection with worldly affairs, yet you call yourself the true king of the world, and your Sikhs call me who am descended from emperors, who am the lord of many lands, and the cherisher of my subjects, a false king. Is all this true ? ' The Guru replied, ' I have never told any one to call me true king, but where there exists love…

Guru Nanak whilst on his many travels with his companion Mardana was walking through the depths of a dark jungle. Mardana was tired and asked his Guru,'Lord we have been marching through these wilds for many days. Do you not think that it is time to return to the civilised surroundings of a town or village where we may sleep in a bed with soft pillows?' Guru Nanak smiled at Mardana and said,'Even jungles can be more civilised than town and villages if the name of God is recited and remembered with all your heart.' After showing Mardana the inner realities of the jungle and the inner gifts that lie there it was now the turn of the towns and villages and to reveal what la…

Guru Nanak Dev Ji And Mir Khan

A Brahman came to the Guru, offered him a basket of fruit, and said, 'My friend, thou art uttering hymns of wrath.' The Guru replied, 'Remain not here; there is a pool three miles distant; go thither with thy family. All who remain here will be put to death.' The Brahman acted on his advice. After some days Babar assaulted and destroyed the city. He also devastated the neighbouring villages. There was a general massacre of the people, and Pathan as well as Hindu habitations were plundered and razed to the ground. The lives of the Guru and Mardana were spared, probably because they were strangers, but they were imprisoned and placed under the superintendence of Mir Khan…

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Imagine there is a bank that credits your account each morning with $86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day. Every evening it deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day. What would you do? Draw out every cent, of course! Each of us has such a bank. Its name is TIME. Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off, as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to good purpose. It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day. If you fail to use the day's deposits, the lo…
