I was never much of a believer of GOD and spent my teens learning what i could of every religion(christianity,islam,judaism,etc..) i could find but still found SIKHISM to be the most sensible,straight-forward of them all. But what saddens me is that men or 'sants' have added their own two cents into the religion. I have unshorn hair but i do not see why we are making sikhism just like any other religion. When i read the damdami taksal rehit maryada, i was appalled at the tasks and instructions written by these men or 'sants' . Granted they may be wise men but i personally beleive that many are extreme Guru Gobind gave us the 5ks in times of war and each served its purpose…

One day, as Guru Tegh Bahadur was in the top storey of his prison, the emperor aurangzeb thought he saw him looking towards the south in the direction of the Imperial zenana. He was sent for the next day, and charged with his grave breach of Oriental etiquette and propriety. The Guru replied, 'Emperor Aurangzeb, I was on the top storey of my prison, but I was not looking at thy private apartments or at thy queens. I was looking in the direction of the Europeans who are coming from beyond the seas to tear down thy parades and destroy thy empire.' =========== Guru Tegh Bahadur prophesized the coming of the europeans, the british who later took over India.

why do we have prashaad? <_< @ and it is still a good idea? the global rise in obesity and decrease in activity does not honour sikhi, in my opinion, because it means we are not honouring our bodies. a bit of prashaad once a day is fine and im sure was fine back in the day........ but prashaad nowadays as one of many daily indulgences with choclate, cakes etc does not seem good...we should not let ourselves get so unhelathy that prashaad provision should be questioned because so long as we lead healthy lives, prashaad can be seen in the light of a blessing and perhaps 'treat' guru angad dev ji established the need for sikhs to honour their bodies by taking ca…

From the authors of Warrior Saints, introducing a fascinating new reconstruction of Sikh History through eyewitness accounts: "Sicques, Tigers or Thieves" : Eyewitness Accounts of the Sikhs (1606-1809), Amandeep Singh Madra and Parmjit Singh. Palgrave Macmillan, New York, 2004 see www.sicques.com for more information In 1810, Sir John Malcolm published the ground-breaking Sketch of the Sikhs. Contrary to popular belief, Malcolm was not the first European to write an account of the Sikhs. In the previous two centuries, soldiers, travellers, administrators, scholars, missionaries and empire-builders had witnessed the development of the Sikhs. The letters, diaries, newspa…

Recently, I was alarmed to hear from one of my friends that one of his relatives who's retired, from time to time comes home intoxicated with alcohol then a few days or so later gives prashad out to the sangat at their local Gurdwara (during the week). Whats your opinions regarding this?
