Waheguru Ji Ki Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh I'm 13 years old and I'm have come on to the path of sikhi and I am working towards taking Amrit. I have been doing my Paath and I don't understand most of it. I've been researching and I haven't found a way to learn the meaning of Gurbani. The only way I have found is using a translation. If anyone knows how I can understand Gurbani please tell me.

What skills/ knowledge should one have before taking Amrit? More in terms of daily responsibilities, respect of gurus saroop, how different programs and paath take place and are organised at gurudwara. What should every Sikh know?

Muslim Lesbian writes about Sikh Film
by Guest DesiFlix- 7 replies

A feminist film company called Dispatch FMI put on a screening of Bend It Like Beckham in London this week. They comissioned an essay to go with the screening and put a call out for proposals a few weeks ago on their twitter page. I was excited to see some positive representation in the media. But they chose Deena al-Aqsa, a Muslim Lesbian, to write the essay. That's how she describes herself in her Twitter bio - that's not me making an assumption and stereotyping her because of her name. Sikhs get so little coverage compared to muslims and we spend so much of our time explaining that we aren't muslims. There is virtually no Sikh representation in the medea It s…

I have a family member suffering from mental health problems for over 3 years. Started with anxiety and led to depression and now other health problems. Over 3 years of counselling and various doctors who can’t figure out any underlying cause or solution that works. Everything suggested provides no relief or temporary relief if any. Basically we are lost.

WJKK WJKF, I feel so lonely, it's not a good place and I just needed to tell someone because I don't know what to do. Maryada of keeping Sri Dasam Granth in my house. 1 2
by Guest Kaur 2- 17 replies

VJKK VJKF I am thinking of keeping a saroop of Sri Dasam Granth Ji in my bedroom. I can read Gurmukhi so I can read it. I asked my mom about it and she said yes and she is taking me to DTF (Soho Road) sometime in the holidays (I think they have saroops of Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji anyway). I just wanted to know the maryada of keeping Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji in my house. My family eat meat etc but they only eat it downstairs but my saroop of Sri Dasam Granth Ji will be kept in my bedroom at all times so none of the meat will go near Maharaj. I just wanted to know if this is alright because if it is beadbi of any sort then I won't bring Maharaj into my house. Its bet…

Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh I have been practicing sikhi for a while now, I do nitnim everyday and I do naam simran as well everyday. I am still living at home with my parents who do not approve of me taking amrit and I have chosen to respect them on this until I move out and find my own place. In the meantime however, I have been living the life of an amritdhari essentially and this includes wearing a kirpan and I feel as though if they don't wish me to actually take amrit I can at least do as much as I can to be prepared when I do finally take it. I recently saw some posts on here that suggest that you can't wear a kirpan without being an amritdhari …
