So, I decided I was going to keep a pagh about two weeks ago. Told family, they seemed fine. I was happy. Turns out I apparently said "I'm *thinking* of keeping a pagh" when I told them. Must have been nerves. I meant that I was going to proceed. They assumed it was open for discussion. I told all my friends etc. Was recounting this to my older sister, who looked stunned. Turns out, they're VERY much against the idea. Has caused a lot of issues, made my older sister cry, has upset me in turn. They keep on asking me to wait. Talk of how it'll affect their lives, how the pressure on them from family and mum to keep hair when they're not ready for it/don't wa…

Don't Want To Be A Sikh. 1 2

Dear Sangat, I became interested in sikhism 2 years ago. I was bought up as a sikh, going gurudwara etc. My dads amritdhari and my grandad is a amritdahri giani. However, I have recently lost all interest in religion. I just don't see the point. I tried being religious, but have realised it's not for me. I do believe in a superior being (God) but don't want to follow any organised religion. I am not amritdhari (yet...) and don't want to be. My dad's definitely going to force me to take amrit, and live my life as a sikh. I am keshdari and go grudwara with my family regularly. I can read/write punjabi and used to do nitnem everyday (when I was religious) but I dont fee…

I Have Many Life in leafy Edgbaston was cosy, routine and without much bother, Mummy and daddy where professional middle class, I was at college study for my A levels, I was shy and obedient but I wasn't content, I longed for excitement, I wanted to live the world, I wanted to be as bold as brass and that was my intent. At college one day, a lad approached me, as he towards me, I could see from afar around his neck, he wore the moon and stars around his neck. He was very persistent and sweet, Told me I was beautiful from my head down to my feet. In my innocen…

vjkk vjkf sat sangath jee, i am a 17 yr old male non-amritdhari sikh who is having trouble with kaam. I hope to be amritdhari one day but my problems with kaam are impeding me. I hang out with a chungi sangath. The problem is that sometimes I'll just be hit with feelings of lust so powerfully, I forget evrything and act on impulse. Sangath Jee, I have read many posts on this subject before and have tried controlling these urges but have so far failed. Any advice would be helpful. vjkk vjkf

FATEH! A girl member of my family wants to marry a sikh boy who is does not keep his hair. She says that she loves him and she feels that he is the right person for her but her family is very against it. The family tells her that she is moving away from sikhi by marrying him and she says she is bring him closer to it. Her family says that she has to choose either him or her family but she doesn't understand why they just cannot be happy for her and why their love has to be conditional. She is very depressed these days and I want to be supportive of her decision but I am still having a hard time with it. She tells me that why should she have to sacrifice her happ…

So here goes. I am a girl and I wear a dastaar. Therefore I normally never have my hair out. On Saturday I had washed my hair and I was walking around my flat when my friend was like STOOOOOOOP! I was like whaaaaaaaaat? Then she was like you have a WHITE HAIR. I was like no I don't. This went on for a bit. She finally took me to a mirror so I could see for myself. I saw my first white hair. I never felt so sad. Its tiny, on the front of my head and its only one strand. She told me not to worry cos she has a white hair in the exact same position. I rang my sister too who said white hairs come and go. My sister is 16 and had a white hair on her arm. It was weird cos she …
