Women in Bana Wearing Dupattas

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh I am a Sikh girl who has recently started wearing a Dastaar. I chose to do this as I wish to live in the bana that the Guru set for us. I am also Amritdhari. One question came to my mind... Is wearing a Dupatta/Chunni required if I am wearing a Dastaar. From my belief, Dupattas/Chunnis are meant to cover hair as a sign of respect for the Guru. Wearing a Dastaar permanently takes care of that. However, I see several women that have Keskis, yet they use a Dupatta/Chunni to wrap it around their breasts/bust. Is that the whole point of a Dupatta? To simply cover one's breasts? Women without keski/dastaar are often just co…

Women in sikh youth

WGJKK WGJKF Whilst going through college and university, I have noticed a huge divide in our Sikh youth. I've seen many young Sikh men either go full cultural or full Sikhi. Women on the other hand, I rarely see any that truly follow Sikhi. I know one woman, 21 now who is dating an amrit shuk man in his 20s. She got personal and told me that they've had intimate relations and that it only took 4 days of them speaking for her to give him that intimacy (intercourse.. ). And she really shows interest in Sikhi but didn't truly see how wrong this was. And for the man, he said he was forced to shuk amrit, so that's pretty bad in itself as he has had various gf…

Women In Sikhi

I came across this article about Tat Khalsa and women(http://www.sikhtimes.com/books_090105a.html) and I had a few questions about it: -- Chaupa Singh Rahit-nama, the earliest rahit, strongly prohibited the administration of khande di pahul to a woman' and opined 'she is never to read the Granth Sahib in a Sikh assembly' . -- One of the first motions passed by the S.G.P.C. upon its creation in 1920 stated that 'women updeshaks [preachers] were no longer to continue their duties' is this true???

Vahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa Vahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh I just wanted to know why some people don't support Kaurs wearing Daastars? And all why Amritdhrari women don't wear Daastars? You would never see an Amritdhari Singh without his Daastar. What makes it a different circumstance for Kaurs? When you wear a Daastar I feel as if it almost clear karma faster. You can't run away from your self or identity. You will surely stand out but that is the beauty of it, as Guru Jis request. How do you differ from anyone else? Everybody wears bandanas and head covers these days:). We all have uniform and project that: police man, business men, college students. Be proud of what you are.…

I was reading another thread about women and wanted to make a thread with women and men addressing issues of sexism in society. I believe this is still a Huge problem not only in minority cultural groups in the world, but also society as a whole. What are people’s views on issues and how can we tackle them? One of my strong opinions is that sexism is still rampant with Punjabi’s, and I have myself fallen victim to it, leading me to having been beaten up by a close family member violently,

Sat Sri Akal, Just thought I would share with you all. I had the pleasure of watching a new video series on youtube, by a user called basicsofsikhi. The videos are made of him giving english translations of Gurmukhi to the Southall Sangat. I was blown away by his ability to connect to all pillars of the community. And many of the people who were in attendance were western sikhs, on their quest to follow sache marag, He is also active on facebook also. I defiantly recommend viewing if you have free time. Gurfatheh Khalsa ji.. i'm sure everyones had their own experiences of having racist or silly things said about them.. recently i've had more so than usual, and daas was wondering what would be the right thing to say to the people that say these things? baring in mind they are 16/17 year old goreh and wouldn't care about anything that stood in their way...i dont want to end up starting anything, i just want to be prepared incase this gets worse...part of me just thinks to forget what people say when racist things are said because at the end of the day maharaj ji is by my side all the time...but then it hurts that they are purely like this because of maharajs dastaar, i'm …

I am 19 years old and work with muslims in my profession (retail). They are nice people but because they are observing their fasting month, always talking about religion/allah/kuran amongst themselves and others are also joning in, including two of my female colleagues who call themselves "Sikh". One of the muslim individual is a Japanese born girl, and she's always asking questions about religious matters, especially to the Sikh girls and they talk for hours and even join in their fast breaking meals at the restaurent and at work. Yes, they are all adults but I am just worried for some reason I can't explain. How can I tell my friends to be careful? Becasue they showed m…

ok as a Singh i keep away from places where ppl smoke etc, but i 'may' be asked to manage a project for National no smoking week. i don't mind that as it is a type of seva and it's work, my concern is from a sikhi/panthic point of view, a Singh appearing in marketing material/adverts to do with the campaign! even if the campaign is to help ppl stop smoking, it's more the assocaition!!!1 whats everyones views?
