  1. When we slander someone, we are not defining them; we are defining 'OURSELVES'... Waheguru....

  2. West London Singh, You say that as far as khatri's are concerned, "Sikhism is for men only". In the same token, I can say in jatts, sikhism is for no one! The men are largely clean-shaven, the women won't marry a guy with a turban (unless she is amritdhari) - its epidemic in that community. Of course, it wasn't always like that with jatts, in the past they have contributed alot in shaheedi terms, therefore, this makes it even more ironic. I remember a Panth Time discussion show last year. to put things into context, they were discussing 'dastaar day'. A member of the ramgharia community stood up and told the panel in no uncertain terms: "excuse me gentlemen, keep this is mind: in the last 50 years, the sikh identity (dastaar) has been kept alive by only two communities in the UK - tarkhaan and bhappe. Not anyone else". The panel were lost for words, mumbled and changed the subject! Its no coincidence that the infamous "turban case" Mandla v Lee in 1982 was fought by tarkhaans in the highest court of the land. Jatts had no need to fight it through the courts - they were clean shaven and so were their sons (of course there are exceptions). I belong to neither of the commuities mentioned, so I'm not praising my own either (julaha). But credit where credit is due, bhappe do at least wear a turban.

  4. It seems he might have been a Punjabi Hindu, Khatri by caste. A brave general who did a lot of service for the Sikh kingdom and deserves to be remembered. Back then there was no conflict between Punjabi Hindus and Sikhs. Differences only arose when that devil Dayanand Sarasvati came to Punjab and began to poison the hearts and minds of the Punjabi Hindus against the Sikhs by creating his Arya Samaj movement. During the Sikh revival movement i.e. Singh Sabha, all Punjabi hindus would have become Sikhs had the Arya Samaj not been in Punjab.

  6. These Singhs shold have outright refused to play without their dastaars or patkay..The fact that they tried to tie their hair back and play just to satisfy discriminatory FIBA rules shows a character weakness on their behalf.

  8. There must me somebody who has links to these Singhs. It's usually pretty easy to get in touch, don't know if anyone's making the effort though. This needs a panthic response, it shouldn't be ignored.

  9. We will probably never find out so my proposition is this ...if they are going hard to tarnish Khalsa's name , we go harder in showing not just India but the world what Khalsa is doing for the good every last one of us must pick up on this project ... do good to others , show what is Sikhi in action, make people love us for our humanity, if you do this those who spread false propaganda will be ignored as the audience will know from their own experiences we are not like that.

  10. Not relevant I know but its actually the Rastafarians who have modelled themselves on Hindu sadhus. The long thick dreads had been totally unheardd of among African and Afro-Carribean people until the mass arrival of Hindu indentured labourers into Jamaica and other West Indian islands in the 1800's. Among them were those with the sadhu appearance, i.e with long matted unkempt hair and smoking copious amounts of ganga. The rastafarian movement adopted the sadhu style also adopted the hindi name for the drug, i.e ganga. But going back to the topic, the kid is just a kid. He's probably as amazed as we are that adults in Punjab can be so unbelievably stupid. They are so stupid their level of stupidity has stopped surprising me anymore.

  11. To start off with, we do Simran out loud. There comes a time when Simran is taking place in our body, without us having to actively engage in Simran... A SCENARIO. A person runs a virus scan on their computer, they wait until the scan is complete, and then use the rest of the computer facilities. Another person runs the virus scan in the background, and at the same time he/she uses the other functions of the computer. In this instance, the virus scan is doing it's job without the person being disrupted. When we engage in Simran, our Atma becomes positively charged, the 'corrupt files' in our minds are removed, and life becomes blissful. Just start doing Simran for at least one hour per day, the rest will just fall into place.... Waheguru....

  12. NEW DELHI (July 17, 2014)—Hospital treatment of Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, who is imprisoned at the Tihar Jail in New Delhi, has once again been delayed. He was brought to the hospital on a stretcher at 7 AM earlier today. Doctors referred him for some tests, and prescribed medicines. No formal tests were carried out, and he was asked to come back on July 30, despite the pain being severe and critical. Upon returning to the Tihar Jail, Bhai Hawara complained about the visit to the hospital being a waste of time. He asked that these recommendations could have been made at the jail itself. He asked why the doctors refused to see him, despite the court orders. The jail staff once again arranged for Bhai Hawara to be taken back to the hospital; however by then, the doctor assigned to him had already left. Bhai Hawara will be taken to the hospital again tomorrow. Sikh24 had earlier reported that Bhai Hawara is unable to walk or stand without support for more than a few minutes. Last few times, he was brought out to meet his family members on a stretcher. Source: Sikh24.com

  14. -Jewish vs Muslims -Christians vs Muslims -Hindus vs Muslims -Shia vs Sunni no need for us to get involved in any of these. Sikhs should just remain neutral and seize any opportunity that presents itself for the Panth's political independence. Be like the Kurds. In Iraq, they didn't get involved in the Shia vs Sunni war. Instead they took that as an opportunity to increase their territory by 40% and also reclaim their historic capital Kirkuk(full of oil) to the annoyance of the Arabs. Once we have a country of our own, then we can get involved in other people's conflict and help them.

  16. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ke Fateh At the start of part one last week, I was pleased to see an amritdhari sister was going to be part of the programme as she would bring Sikh ethics to the debate and put the bigots straight. But even though she did not feature much last week, the small clips made it clear she was part of the 'anti-immigration' group that needed convincing by the 'immigrant' group, which came as a surprise as her elders like almost all UK Sikhs would be immigrants. In this week's part I was shocked when Bhein Ji said 1. She had moved to another area because the area where she had lived had become too diverse. If an English person said that there were too many ethnic minorities in an area what would we think? 2. She would not send her kids to the school featured as it was too diverse. Again, If an English person said that there were too many ethnic minorities in a school what would we think? What about Sikh ethos schools that even with a large amount of places reserved for non-sikhs will end up predominantly teaching Sikhs of Punjabi descent? 3. Her father had cut his kesh 'to integrate'. My father like many others had to do the same but not to integrate, he was forced as an oft-unspoken racist condition of employment taking advantage of his dire financial situation. He also felt there was little recognition for his and other Sikh soldiers' sacrifices during WW2 otherwise they would respect the kesh/dastaar Sikhs retained in the war. Mr. Mohammed was perfectly within his rights not to enter a Gurdwara or assist a Sikh organisation serve the homeless, even though it was harmless, due to his strong allegiance to his own faith and that faith alone. The other Muslim couple featured although more liberal did not attend another faith's place of worship they took the English couple to their Mosque, Mr Mohammed would have happily done the same. He seemed welcoming when our sister visited his home twice and he was happy to visit her home. How many apneh, especially first generation immigrants, socialise with goreh outside work? Just as importantly how many gorey invite us around? We can't judge a 1st gen immigrant by our 2nd/3rd gen levels of integration. His daughters spoke of returning to a peaceful Somalia one day and using their education to help rebuild the country. I found this highly commendable, who in today's age of growing selfishness would want to make such a sacrifice? It is just like Brit born Sikhs going to a Punjab they know little of and spending cash they earned in the UK, skills they acquired here to run medical camps, build homes, help the victims/widows/orphans of 84. Someone could argue that money/skill should be used for Britain's homeless. How many of us dream of one glorious day taking our UK acquired skills to an ajaad Khalistan to turn it into a utopia, to give Sikhs and non-Sikhs there the life we enjoy here? Mr Mohammed had fears of integration actually being assimilation just as our parents did. Fears of losing our faith, our customs, respect for elders and the dangers of alcohol abuse, promiscuity etc - these are natural feelings. Brits living abroad also have similar fears with regard to identity, they also tend to live in areas where there are large British expat communities. Integration is a two way process, one way only is assimilation. Western europeans have conquered and occupied three of the world's largest continents they were not native to - Australasia, North America and South America where the indigenous populations live in abject poverty on worthless land allotted to them. Vastly outnumbered by the western europeans, the native tribes have little prospects, resulting in high substance abuse and high suicide rates. The native culture, language and customs are dying out. Is that the integration that western europeans keep talking about? What would happen if those millions of western europeans had to return to western Europe - as we say, there wouldn't be space to sit. The fact is western europeans have enjoyed an ever improving standard of living at the expense of everyone else over the last 400 years and understandably they don't want things to change. Immigrants come to the UK not with armies to conquer and occupy but with hopes of a better life for their children and the will to work hard to achieve it. Right to enter is determined by the democratically elected government who, as highlighted in the programme, have reduced visa numbers, introduced stringent visa conditions and reduced entitlement to benefits for non-EU citizens. The Irish where the last immigrants before the wave of Asian and West-Indians arrived in the 50s-70s. They became accepted and some try to prove their 'Britishness' by slating us as the Brits slated them. The irony is that they still get called all sorts and are the butt of many English jokes. It seems that as Sikhs, now that we have won our rights though years of court cases and political lobbying we too are glossing over how we lost our Raj, the racism of the past and the fact that a large number of Brits still want us on the boat 'back to where we came from' - all in order to criticise the newer immigrants. As a point of interest, Bhein Ji may want to ask her neighbours in her new street what their views are on carrying a proper sized kirpan, wearing a dastaar instead of a safety helmet, arranged marriage etc with respect to integration. Such issues came up during my working life in the last ten years, like me she may be shocked by the response of many of the educated liberal english middle class, like me she may question how British she is considered by them.

  17. I would be hard pushed to remember ever reading something so racist as your rant! Unless you have a working knowladge of a the smaali community or know a lot of them as friends I dont think you can make such a sweeping comments. 'typical' and 'your average' are racist terminology because you are putting guilt on a whole community. My first hand knowladge of the few somalis I have known showed greta humour, hard working and yes very religious in some ways. But as 'british (whatever that means) as the next person. The Pakistani couple worked really long hours and came across as lovely. He was facing eyesight difficulties did you not listen to the inspiring words of the doctor £1,500 only for the gift of eyesight...and you would begrudge anyone that? as a Sikh? Never in my life have I read anything as vile pahji! teh hours of work his wife put in would have paid this off in taxes in no time (as she had to earn over £35,000 per annum to stay here, which probably equate to around 10,000 or more in taxes)! I would be happy to have them as my neighbours - no honoured actually! Rather than a racist.

  20. Both of my parents born in rural punjab. On the other hand i was born and raised in city until we moved from india when i was 16. But before i moved away from india, i spent two years in pind. There is huge difference between city and pind folks but i would always prefer a company of pind folks anytime of the day. Their attitude and dedication is lot better than city folks. As mentioned by buddasingh, rural pind folks were most oppressed by indian govt and the reason is because they are typically the only one to stand against injustice. Draw a list and write names of all kharkoo singhs/kaurs and then tell us whether majority of them were pendus or shereyay? Not going off-topic but the reason why we failed 80's movement is because of class differences between sikhs.. pity that today youth keep such prejudice in their mind against rural folks.

  23. Why do do you not 'think' that ? Surely when people from an urban background are labelled 'rural' just because they've done something bad thats being disrespectful to rural folk ? As another poster above stated, most of Punjab's terrible ills exist predominately amongst it's urban classes. It is the urban classes that murder most of their daughters just for being female. It is the urban classes that murder most of their daughter in laws just for not bringing enough money and gifts in dowry. It is the urban Sikhs that have most dilluted Sikhism with Hinduism. It is the urban classes that have mostly turned their back on their mother tongue and embraced a foreign language (Hindi). Contrary to popular belief it is in the urban areas where drug addiction is highest. So 'think' again.

  24. But why even village or small town? don't urbanites from big urban centers like Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar and Amritsar commit crimes against their daughter in laws? Next time you are in Punjab, open up the Ajit news paper and read for your self all the dowry related murders urban In-laws commit. Furthuremore, female infanticide(abortion) is more common among the educated Urbanites than the rural folks. Who is more backward now?

  25. 'Pendus' ? :wow: When urban Sikhs do something good you'll say it's because they're urban and cultured but when urban Sikhs do something bad you equate them with the rural folk. Doubt this man or his family has ever stepped foot in a 'pend'. Should I start a thread now about the backward shari lok ? What is the heritage of those with the name 'Mirgind' ?

We want or have only one boy who has turned "amli and shraabi". On the top of that, we are killing unborn girls, who were supposed to give births to "sant / bhagat / soorme". We are worse than animals, because even they never killl their own children. Wake up sangat ji. We'll not see any normal person in 10-15 years, tusin taras jaaoge"
