Anyway, the incident discussed in this thread is just more evidence that the Sikh community is perhaps more pathetic than any other community on the planet. Sikhs are extremely insecure and desperate for acceptance and recognition. I remember years back some stupid uncle at the Gurdwara was bragging that she is a "Randhawa" like him. If I was a Randhawa, I would not want anyone to know that she was one too.

AMRITSAR: A member of the Sikh clergy handing over his ceremonial sword to South Carolina governor Nikki Haleys husband here upset a number of people at the Golden Temple here on Saturday. Granthi of the Golden Temple, Giani Jaswinder Singh, handed over his siri sahib to Michael Hayley during the couples visit at the temple. Many said this was against maryada or Sikh religious law. The granthi handed over the sword after the couple touched his feet to ask for his blessings. The sword was given after manager of the Golden Temple Partap Singh, Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) members Manjit Singh and Rajinder Singh Mehta had already honoured the Haleys. Jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh said, You should ask him why he honoured Haleys husband with his siri sahib which he had held in his capacity of granthi of Golden Temple. It is wrong and violation of maryada. Head granthi of the Golden Temple, Giani Jagtar Singh said, It would have been better had he given some other sword to Haley instead the one which is given to a granthi as an honour. He said he would raise the issue with SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar so he could give a message to all. Giani Jaswinder Singh handed over his siri sahib to the couple during their visit to the Golden Temple. Senior professor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Balwant Singh said a granthi carry a ceremonial sword which becomes part of their dress code. He said there was no need to honour anyone in an individual capacity especially when Michael had already been honoured by SGPC. He added that he should have avoided honouring Michael with his ceremonial sword. If at all he wanted to honour him, he could have given him some other sword and not the one held by him, the scholar said. Despite repeated attempts Giani Jaswinder Singh couldnt be contacted. It would hurt her with some republicans, but I think most conservative Americans find a special appeal in people from minority backgrounds who disown their background and heritage. Evangelical Christians especially delight in examples of people from "exotic" religious backgrounds who become extreme right-wing Christians (as Haley presents herself). On top of that, Haley married a white guy, has essentially white Christian children, etc. For conservative Americans who feel like their culture is under attack and in danger of being diluted by foreigners, they relish in examples of what used to be the norm: their own Western Christian culture erasing the culture of others.

In American politics you need to show you're 'Christian' credentials especially if you are of a republican persuasion (nikki haley, bobby jindal). Notice a trend here? Give yourself an americanised name and profess a Christian faith to gain office. I think you'll find that in reality they are more interested in political office/power / their own ego, so they will say/do anything to fulfill these. You have to give credit to Obama in that although he had to prove his Christian credentials, he didn't change his name to Bob Obama or some other nonsensical name. Basically they are sell outs

Typically parents didn't do good job. Also in her karam not to know sikhi really well. She was already married with non-sikh way before she hoped into political bandwagon. Anyway sticking with topic, i think giani jaswinder singh was demoted from "Head Granthi" to "Granthi Singh" after his huge mistake on rehraas sahib paath. Many believes that he is going to be next in line for akal takht jathedar seat.

^ its not her fault as she never got the chance to know sikhi. My nana ji know this family very well. Migrating in 60's kinda broke their link with sikhi. Our family stayed in sikhi because of sangat of few bhagti walay singhs. Old folks know "thakur singh amritsar" who was very high spirit chardikala gursikh was in fact fufar of governor nikki. The VIP culture needs to be broken down in amritsar. Now they started closing down sangat flow inside darbar sahib if some VIP person is due for matha taek.

Nobody can touch granthi jaswinder singh. He is close to badal parivaar and will stay at this position regardless of gross mistakes he made over the years. 1. Does Bhangra and punjabi cultural stuff at his patit bhateja's marriage. Still no action ! 2. Killed a person with car in amritsar but never stopped (Hit & Run) because he was running late for a program. While coming back, people stopped him. Still no action ! 3. Missed chaupai sahib during rehrass sahib @ darbar sahib. He is still there..

Shameful and highly condemnable action by the granthi.Will any action be taken against him? How can you compare the crowd to the granthi?

Reading from tablet is easier. I use it too. Adobe Reader is very good now days. But there are other good apps too. I have a Kindle from Amazon, Ipad and an Android Tablet and all of them has there positive and negative points

Indeed it doesn't matter for a Sikh, how the creator created the world. It's all in his hukam and will.
