  1. Debate about freedom of expression after several students went to school on Friday with unique t-shirts carrying a possibly controversial message. About 20 Sikh students showed up at Surrey's Princess Margaret High School wearing black t-shirts with white lettering that reads "Khalistan" on the front. The shirts endorse the man who once led the controversial movement in India in the 1980s, Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, which ended in widespread riots and violence. Bhindranwale was killed in 1984 in India after the country's army led an uprising to storm the Golden Temple. "(A teacher) asked me to take off the shirt, but I wasn't wearing anything underneath I didn't have anything else at school, so they said put on a jacket so I had to put on a jacket and zip it up," said one student, who declined to give his name. "They're saying it's politics in the school, and the school doesn't do politics, you're not allowed to wear political shirts, right. But this has nothing to do with politics." On the back, the t-shirts read "While we live, we shall live with dignity, when we die it shall be for the faith." But some witnesses say they also saw similar t-shirts with images of AK47s on them, although the students deny that claim. The students who wear the shirts say they are simply expressing their religion. Dough Strachan, communications manager for the Surrey School District, says the issue is not just black and white. "The school is trying to work through the problem," he said. "It is asking those involved to be respectful to everyone's points of view." Strachan would not clearly say whether the board will condone or reject the students' position. "It's difficult, or maybe even unfair to say this is acceptable ... and this is not, at least to some extent." But at least one student says he will probably wear the shirt again. "I don't care," he said. "Our tenth guru said, when all means of addressing the wrongs have failed it is righteous to raise a sword."
  2. Punjab will be Independent when India and Pakistan no longer exist. Punjab will be forced to swim when the Indian boat sinks. Its just a matter of time with all of these Independence movements in both countries, not including all of the social, economical, regional and political differences that are causing so much tension between people in both countries. Pakistan will probably go first, leaving India without an Nemesis, a common enemy to rally the country around and this will cause the real issues to come to the forefront and regional tensions to rise. Just my theory.
  3. Myth #5: If 3 different contradicting versions of death are reported, then why the can't there be a fourth version pertaining to Sant Ji being alive? People from Sant Ji's pind tell me that Sant Ji's brother said that the body was not of Sant Ji but the villagers also say he was bought out...so.... Myth #4: Sant Ji said that he would never run for a political position eg. MLA, President, ect. and never did, simple as that. But having a political opinion guided by Religion is what Sant Ji had "because in Sikhi Religion and Politics are inseparable". Also the author of this is pushing that Sant Ji made every decision on his own and did not consult with any other Sikhs, maybe Sikhs with Sant Ji wanted to run for political position to make a difference through the system at hand, why would this be considered "political ambition" for Sant Ji? The position of Akal Takht Jathedar is a sewadar position and again Sant Ji didn't as for this. Also the time frame of the quotations are not given but the "political" dates clearly stated, again the author is trying to be clever. Myth #3: No direct demand Khalistan was ever made, the rest is speculation could of, would of..... The author forgets to put in the quote of Sant Ji saying "we want to stay India but not as second class citizens, we want to stay as equals, now does India want to keep us here or not" Also if Khalistan was about to be declared they should have been a large flag or declaration of independence in massive print or something at Darbar Sahib Myth #2: The Sikh Nation loves Sant Ji, the Greatest Sikh of the 20th Century. Myth #1: Sant Ji was not a terrorist...look at above post. If such a Mahan Sewadar is considered evil, then who is pure?
  4. To Sikhs who call Sant Jarnail Singh Ji a terrorist and doubt that he was even a Sant....... If doing 22 hours of Nitnem a day...reading, reciting Gurbani and inspiring others to do as well...taking Amrit by giving your head and encouraging do as well..going from village to village explaining Gurbani and Sikh history through katha...encouraging youths to stop cutting their hair, drinking & smoking... If after all of this you still consider Sant Ji to be bad, evil, egotistic, a terrorist.....then your really doubting Guru Ji, the power of naam, simran and gurbani...if even of all of this mahan sewa and devotion a person can be considered evil, then who is pure?
  5. KAC to complain to Akal Takhat against Punjab CM Badal for defending Advani on his book DAMDAMA SAHIB: The Khalsa Action Committee Monday adopted a resolution for filing a complaint against Punjab Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal at Akal Takht for defending Advani's anti-Sikh book 'My Country, My Life'. The decision to this effect was taken at a convention organized by SAD (1920), SAD (panch Pardani) and the Dal Khalsa under the aegis of the Khalsa Action Committee to commemorate 309the birth anniversary of the Sikh Nation. On the occasion the KAC leaders honoured family members of Bakshish Singh, Swaran Singh, Hoshiar Singh, Parveen Kaur and others suspected to be involved in a bid to assassinate Sirsa dera head. They also honoured wife, mother and father of Kanwaljeet Singh, who fell to the bullets of Sirsa premis on May 17, last year. The resolution further read "today is our national day. Though British suspended the political sovereignty of the Sikh Nation with the annexation of Punjab in 1849 yet we, the Sikhs, remain a Nation though subjugated. Sikhs as a nation has been struggling for its freedom against all odds, refusing to submit to those who aim to eliminate their identity". In another resolution the conference demanded commuting of death sentence of Prof Devinder pal Singh Bhullar and release of all political prisoners languishing in jails since long. Speakers after speaker dubbed 'My Country, My Life', the new book by Lal Krishan Advani as anti-Sikh and anti-Punjab. Underlining their opposition they lambasted Advani for equating Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale with Bhasmasur- a demon in the Hindu mythology. "We strongly object to such scribbles of Advani", said KAC convenor Bhai Mohkam Singh. He pointed out that Advani on his own has listed himself in the list of 'enemies of the Sikhs' by admitting that it was under pressure from his party that Indira Gandhi was forced to undertake Operation Blue Star. Speaking on the historic occasion of Baisakhi, Bhai Daljit Singh, co-convenor of the KAC accused Sirsa Dera head for undermining Sikh beliefs and principles and added that the avowed aim of this Sirsa Dera was to underscore and attack the concept of Shabad Guru –a fundamental tenet of the Sikh religion. In his address KAC spokesman Kanwar Pal Singh said the Khalsa was not just a religious body but also a sovereign political entity. He said throughout the centuries, from Guru Nanak to Guru Gobind Singh and from Banda Singh Bahadur to Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, the Sikhs have had a unique place among the people of Punjab, developing into a distinct nation in our own right. He said to achieve sovereign self-rule, it was must for Sikhs to keep the flame of freedom burning. http://www.punjabnewsline.com/content/view/9919/38/
  6. There was a week long program at Gurdwara Sahib Damesh Darbar with Dhadi Jathas and Katha explaining the Birth of the Khalsa Panth (history of Vaisakhi). There was a tent set up outside of the Gurdwara Sahib called "Sikh Genocide" with pictures of Shaheed Singhs, Bloody Vaisakhi 1978, Human Rights Abuses in India and section called "Sikh Traitors" headlined by Prakash Badal. Talwinder Singh Parmar's photo was not displayed. The media did it usual game play by only reporting part of the full story. Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh are mentioned to be the assassins of Indira Ghandi but Operation Blue Star is not mentioned in the articles. This is like writing an article about the American led invasion of Afghanistan without mentioning 9/11!!! Jinda and Sukha are mentioned for killing General Vaidya, portrayed as a poor old retired Army General who was shot "while picking groceries." Official story has always been that Vaidya was killed by gun shots while driving his car, his wife was also injured but she lived. Looks like the media and Kim Bolan gets all of its info from this one drawing!!! The media focus on the pictures of Shaheed Singhs mentioning Shaheed Jathedar Sukhdev Singh Babbar and Shaheed Bhai Amrik Singh, calling them terrorists, trying to make a Babbar Khalsa and ISYF connection. Although by Bhai Amrik Singh was Shaheed before the ISYF was formed. The pictures of human rights violations are down played in the articles by mentioning that pictures of "mutilated" bodies are close to rides set up in the Gurdwara parking lot (where kids are playing..blah..blah...blah). Another "terrorist" Kim Bolan mentions is Shaheed General Labh Singh, "Gen. Labh Singh -- led the assassination attempt on the director-general of Punjab police, Julio Ribeiro, in 1986." The media is totally against everything that the Dasmesh Darbar Gurdwara does and its articles prove that there is a total bias and holding back of facts. Indian Government will be making a statement soon, just like it did last year but can India please explain the difference between the actions of Beant Singh, Satwant Singh, Jinda Sukha and Udham Singh & Bhagat Singh? Shaheed Beant Singh & Shaheed Satwant Singh killed Indira Ghandi Jinda Sukha killed General Vaidya Udham Singh killed Michael O'Dwyer for the Amritsar Massacre Bhagat Singh killed Saunders instead of his intended target, which was a plot to kill the police chief Jai Gopal (sounds really similar to Gen. Labh Singh) Next year there should be a single portrait of all of these Shaheeds.
  7. Took the words out of my mouth... ...just take pic with your phone and then send it to his dad (who is a granthi) he'll set him straight and will make him realize how much maha paap (jagat jhoot) he is committing b/c he ain't gonna listen to you but can't ignore his dad words.
  8. You don't need to give a donation everytime, just remember to bring with you the Naam that you have gathered from reciting Nitnem and doing Simran, this is pleasing to Guru Ji. Heard this in katha, I think it was Sant Giani Kartar Singh Ji Bhindranwale's katha :gg:
  9. Amar Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji did ardas to Waheguru that I don't want to attain Shaheedi until Sri Darbar Sahib is Azaad and the ardas of such a Pure Gursikh is always granted!!!
  10. This is a growing trend....Sikh Symbols and Gurbani is being disrespected (sometimes unintentionally) and commercialized for profit. Last year at the Nagar Kirtan in Surrey there were alot of instances of this sort of thing, including ICICI Bank volunteers (kids) handing out little pocket calenders (just a single smail card) with Ik Onkar Satnaam & a picture of Sri Darbar Sahib and they were laying everywhere all over the roads and in the trash cans and the only thing that came to my mind was Giani Thakur Singh Ji katha were he talks about how Sikhs these days don't know where and when not to write Bani. (I think Giani Ji used an example of a calender with Sukhmani on it that was laying behind a fridge). I spoke up and told the volunteers to give me all of the remaining calenders, they only had a little left since I only noticed this at the end of the route but people around me were giving me dirtly looks and saying that I was over reacting ect.....I wouldn't of been able to sleep if I didn't do anything... Man Sikhs these days.... <_<
  11. Great posts everyone.... My interpretation is that the cage represents material/worldly things that a person keeps around him/her, things that make you forget about Waheguru and death (that death can come at any moment) surrounded by "their" material things a person feels safe, but the messenger of death breaks through all of these things and takes the soul (bird) away leaving only the the torn threads (your body). As for the Manmukh part, I agree with sher-e-moreau's second post. The bird must represent a Manmukh b/c I thought that a Gurmukh does not suffer the pain of death and does not go with the messenger of death? ma(n)nai jam kai saathh n jaae || The faithful do not have to go with the Messenger of Death jin gur saeviaa aapanaa jamadhooth n laagai dda(n)dd || For those who serve their Guru, there is no punishment at the hands of the Messenger of Death gur syvw jm qy Cutkwir ] gur saevaa jam thae shhuttakaar || Serving the Guru, one is released from the Messenger of Death. swDsMig imil hir gun gwey jmdUqn kau qRws Ahy ]1] rhwau ] saadhhasa(n)g mil har gun gaaeae jamadhoothan ko thraas ahae ||1|| rehaao || Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and the Messenger of Death will be frightened away. prabh saevaa jam lagai n naerae ||2|| Serving God, the Messenger of Death will not even approach you. ||2|| jam ka(n)kar naerr n aavee rasanaa har gun gaao ||1|| The Messenger of Death does not even approach those who chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord with the tongue. ||1|| Waheguru....
  12. The second video is way better than the first....just my opinion
  13. Just came across this video. The Shaolin Monks are amazing, so much discipline and concentration. At the end of the video the narrator says that in 1723 a Chinese Emperor invaded and destroyed the Shaolin Temple killing most the Monks and leaving only 5 Shaolin Monks left! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_aUQmNbtm0
  14. I am not an expert on this but I think this has to do with a lot of thing, especially of the promotion and glorification of liquor & alcohol in music and on television. The fact that Punjabi culture these days embraces alcohol consumption is probably what is leading to the consumption of drugs. A person who starts to drink (especially people who tend to abuse these things) will eventually start to look at other sources for the same "kick" eg. tobacco, marijuana, opium, crack ect. Also a lack of knowledge related to the consequences of taking narcotics, the longterm health effects and dependencies that might arise are not readily known to people, the common misconception among most youths is that they can "quit" anytime. Another thing is the availability of these drugs in Punjab. Highly accessible drugs will attract people (youths in particular) who want experiment with these drugs to see what will happen but again underestimate the risk associated with doing such a thing like addiction or even death from overdose or allergic reaction. The drug menace in Punjab needs to be curb immediately before its too late. People in Punjab need to realize that drugs are the cancer that can break down and destroy entire communities.
