I never understood this whole "they" "he" thing

all of a sudden, someone, or something becomes plural?!?! We believe in ONE GOD, but it becomes "THEY" so we can be respectful..

isn't that actually DISRESPECTFUL, to say that there's more than one god?

Yeh K_SINGH is right.. The correct term to use would be "prakash", rather then birth

So when we say its Gurpurab of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, then we say today was the prakash of Guru Ji..

Same with Khalsa..

because if we tend to use birth, then there also has to be death...

Although its hard to describe the term prakash in english.. basically it means light, The Guru as light shone forth on this day. (metaphor)
