He who as a Sikh places a hat on their head; will be reborn seven times as a leper.

Veer ji, I have seen Sikhs in the army put nets around their dastar for camaflouge, if we want to advance with society we need something like this. There are 2 purposes of the dastar, one is to take care of the hair, and second as a Crown of our Identity. By putting a protective see thruogh covering on it we will not defame it. When I visited Punjab all the Sardars would put a plastic see-through covering over their dastar so it wouldn't get wet. Now, we need a hard see-through covering for our protection.

First of all, Veerji, I just want to say that perhaps you should not base justification of something on the fact that you have seen someone do it. JUst because people do it doesn't make it right. Which you yourself have stated in the above quoted post. blush.gif

The only reason I am against this is because we were told not to wear hats - which covers helmets, obviously. It doesn not make a difference whether the helmet is see-through or not. We can't not wear helmets just because people can't recognise our Sikhi due to our concealed Dastaars. A hat is a hat, no matter the color, or absence thereof. Keep faith in Guru Ji, He will protect you.

Also, if you want to 'go against rehit' - I honestly couldn't think of another way to say it blush.gif - to advance with society . . . . . you should re-think your belief.

like i said before.. there are many places where they let sardars ride now without a helmet.. if they are wearing a dastar.. why not just try to get this done in ur own country?

Quite difficult to do so. Imagine trying to do that in France. America is probably better, but that's one country.

it'll never work.

108226

Why?

108228

because everyone ties a different dastaar.

108364

Perhaps, just make your dastarr extra large ( :T: ) and more tight, so when you fall off, it won't be so much of a problem. Isn't most dastars and turbans offer good enough protection anyways? The patka might need more protection though.

I undersand what you guys are saying about how people tie differnt turbans, maybe just keep different sizes for the round dastar becuase round is round. Or even get one made just for me.lol I know I might seem lame to you guys but I am very serious about this idea.

The part I dont understand is how it is disrespecting Sikhi to put the see thruogh protective cover over the dastar. The helmet is important, and a dastar can't give the protection a helmet does. But the Dastar is also very very important it not only takes care of our hair, but has become Identity for a Sikh or even a Kaur. So by putting see through proctive covernig, everyone will still see our Identity, we will still feel our Identity, and at the safe time protect us. Even the Singhs of Guru ji's time use to put steal rings our their dastar for protection.

So please tell me why I shouldn't get one made for my dastar.

Singh...there are plenty of posts that state why its not right to put a helmet of ur Dastar, at the end of the day if ur looking for justification then thats fine, it seems ur adamant about this idea, so good luck to you. you asked the sangats advice and most have stated against the idea, but chalo....i hope u have fun making a mockery out of Guroo Saahibs Dastaar.

The Chakkars u keep quoting were designed by Maharaj themselves, so that is no comparison and they do not cover the dastar and are hats/helmets.

Think of it logically, who's going to fund such a project? Who will make it? where will it be made? Who will wear it??

Face it singho it wont work and to be honest i would be totally against the idea as would others.

Like i said before, if an occupation/hobby/ANYTHING comes between you, your sikhi and your Guroo...then is it really worth it???

Think about it...

Lets just forget if this will work or not, I am very very sorry but I still dont understand how it is going against Sikhi. Is it ok for Sikh to put camaflouge nets on their Dastar in the Army? Is it ok for Sikhs to put plactic covers over their Dastars in the rain? This product is not exaclty like a helmet, people will still be able to see your Dastar. So when you fall of the motorcycle wont your dastar along with your brains be all over the road, or in the army. This product will protect the dastar, along with your brain. Remember its see-through, so your Dastar will be visible. Just forget if it will work, and please tell me how it is going against the dastar. It protecting it, and doesn't hide it.

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
