They are "thinking" of allowing the bookings to happen online...

I beg to differ my brothers and sisters! We will not allow the SGPC to sell Akhand Paths online.

In the year 2000 we, the Khalsa Panth, successfully thwarted the attempts of the psuedo-Sikh Brahmins in the SGPC to try and sell Akhand paths online through

the SHRB - Sikh Heresy Regulation Board.

Me thinks its time to revive the group. We can easily get thousands of online signatures and bombard the SGPC email box!!

See below...I save all emails!!

> The Panth worldwide, in particular the Sikh

>

> SGPC's open violation of the Sikh Rehat Maryada, the Sikh Code of Conduct

> ratified by the Panth under the auspices of the Akal Takht. Your organization, which is the primary publisher the Sikh Code of Conduct, has indulged in manmatt, an anti-Sikh practice of reading of the Sikh Scripture in exchange for money, where the payee is not present to hear the recitation.

>

> The Sikh religion declares that devotion is possible only if the devotee himself or herself takes active part in a religious service, including the recitation of the Sikh scripture. This is the reason Sikhism has no ordained priestly class; the practice of distant Akhand Paths is unsanctioned in Sikhism. Unless a person reads or hears and

> endeavors to understand the message of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, recitation by a

> paid person becomes an empty ritual and a heretical practice.

>

> Chapter 7, Article 9, Section (b) of the Sikh Rehat

> Maryada, as translated

> and published by your organization, declares:

>

> "Whichever family or congregation undertakes the non-stop reading should

> carry it out itself through its members, relatives, friends, etc., all together. The number of reciters is not prescribed. If a person himself, cannot read, he should listen in to the reading by some competent reader. However, it should never be allowed to happen that the reader carries on the reading all by himself/herself and no member of the congregation or the family is listening in to the reading."

>

> The above leaves no doubt that SGPC's practice of selling of Akhand Paths is

> antithetical to Sikhism; SGPC's hypocrisy is also evident because it does not practice what it preaches. If this is allowed to continue it shall result in the erosion of the fundamental Sikh value of reciting and contemplating on the Guru's Word by the devotee without the use of any intermediaries.

>

> The SGPC is requested to take corrective action by removing the pages from

> its web site, through which it sells Akhand Paths. Furthermore, it should pass a formal resolution that it will stop this practice at all Gurdwaras that come under its jurisdiction. The Sikhs of the diaspora do not want to see the SGPC meeting the same fate as the Masands, who were empowered by the

> Fourth Nanak, Guru Ram Dass, but abolished by the Tenth, Guru Gobind Singh,

> because of their theft of money from the Sikh masses. SGPC should reform its

> practices so it may once again become a credible institution of the Panth.

what's the difference b/w booking online and booking over the phone???

i think if we're gonna petition against this we should also petition againt selling akhand paats to people who aren't even going to be there!! people who are sitting in canada getting an akhand paat done at darbar sahib....that's ridiculous...

why not petition against the MAIN issue...which is commercialization of the akhand paats which has been going on for such a long time...

in reality..there's no difference b/w online selling..or doing it over the phone...both are stupid stupid stupid....

Someone is raising a voice to do something, its not gonna benefit anyone to argue what we should do or not do.

This petition will atleast tell SGPC that doing this type of thing is wrong. I dont see another petitiion started with almost 200 names against doing akhand paaths over the phone or the internet.

what i find wrong here is instead of explaining to people that guru ji's words are his words and are no different whether they are read from one bir or another, they are egging them on further.....

u both are right this should be contested.. but lets make sure we do it properly and we argue the right thing. if booking online is done properly its not a problem, (im thinknig this is like having a secretary who keeps track of the name of the person who will be doing the seva and stuff ... ) however, they must be there for the akhand paath, whats the point of having an akhand paath if someone emails u and tell u, k the paath is done.. ur wishes will be fullfilled

why can these people not do it at their local gurudwara sahib instead? gurbani is the same no matter where it is read....

It's wrong because SGPC is helping the kaum to have akhand path being turned into ritual (which these days it already is by many ppls who barely attends the Akhand path)..

Book akhand path online?? They are marketing Dollars and pounds now?? If they want to have this then i would have agree if they have condition attached to it like.. ONe party must attend the path for 3 days !

Believe me this ain't gonna work.. They have online booking for Sarain of Darbar sahib (Guest house).. and i know a person who booked it online and when he went to amritsar and to their office.. The manager sitting in front desk doesn't even aware of such online booking system or SGPC.net website hahahaha.. Same thing with this new "getting modern" booking thingy
