What does the metal wiring used for holding chand/khanda signify? (very sorry don't know the proper name)
It is called tora and is used to fortify damalla aka bunga, which is like a helmet. If a kirpan strikes the tora then it will slide of easily without doing much damage to the person wearing it. (ive tried this before)
What are reasons for leaving the top of the dumalla open with the keski underneath showing and not covering it with the outer fabric

hmm tradition? i havent actually delved into this, its just something i do and feel comfortable with.. and theres always the age old answer of "its cool dude"

i think chakkar on turban is also to protect the enemy strikes...
