Wahayyguru jee ka khalsa, Wahayyguru jee kee fateh.

for the bhainay's out there. When you were/are in school, during the summer do people come up to you (girls especially) constantly and ask why you wear pants all the time? What should i say?

i guess the main reason is modesty - not showing our bodies to the whole world... the same way we keep our kes covered, it's respectful to Guru Ji.

if you tell them you're uncomfortable with wearing skirts/showing your legs, they shouldn't be too confused.

waheguru ji kakhalsa waheguru ji ki fateh

i agree with Singhni above, i wore pants even before i took amrit(didnt wear dastar thn). It was really werid for my friends to understand that, but hey thats us for them

My sister wore shorts, while i didn't ..so it was kind of hard first to tell them why i didnt do that!

tell them...thats just you (yes there are usually talks ....u'll hear some gals talkin about u etc etc...but enjoy ur self. u'll reflect on it and be like wow! i can;t belive i thought that was such a big problem. i didnt care what they thought...)

later on what also helped me was that i knew some "gori" gals who wore black or white pants during gym all year long jus cuz/no real reason.

jus be free and be your self!

hehe, above posts are good, jus tell em you ain't cumfy wit wearin shorts, ppl will talk behind your back, but i mean whether you give in to what they want you to do or not, they'll talk anyway, so follow your heart and do what you feel hunna.

they'll ask 'how come you dun wear shorts or skirts?' and to that give any of the replies that the bhenjis listed above, and they shud stop asking

hehe i member we went shoppin at the mall, and the sales rep at a store said 'we have panties and thongs for buy one get one free' and we all look at eachother n one of em nudges me n says 'tell em you dun wear it to see her reaction' (to explain kachera afterwards to her) hehe ...craji kids rolleyes.gif

but i mean if they keep askin you for 'reasons' then feel free to tell em you don't for religious reasons as well as comfort

good posts above: to add on,

wear salvaar Kameez and they wont even question you. I was once scared of wearing salvaar kameez in public be it school or grocery store, but tried it and one gori comes up to us and says we look good with our dress and dastaar

if its summer, a suit will keep you from the heat and way better than those skirts and stuff. NOT THE suits where "lathaa" are seen through the salvaars... you know what i mean.

hey panji, i no sumtimes it can be really hard making such decisions but in the end, what really matters is what guru sahib says, not what your friends think is cool. i always have people pressuring me about such things too but tell them about bhai mati das, bhai sati das, panj piare, char sahibzadey and say tht if they went therough all tht and never complained once, then why should i. say i am a sikh and thts wht im going to remain. bhul chuk maaf,

GurFateh jio

well well..

it doesnt really have to be a sticky situation..

i just say.. "i dont like skirts."

and when they ask "so dont you ever get hot?"

i say "i wear different material in the summer and different in the winter. so no..its all good."

no one should make such a big deal out of it

if they continue....just be like....its my body..whats it to you??

all cool i guess

peace...

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
