and really i guess, well to protect the sacredness, sort of, of taking amrit.

oh wait also when people go pesh, it's very important that only they and the panj piyare ( i think) hear what their kurehit was and give adequate punishment. if the room was not enclosed and you went to a amrit sanchar and you saw a chardi kala singh, that you knew, taking amrit again, you might start speculating and saying things. but that should only stay within that room so i guess that's one of the main reasons.

forgive me if i said anything wrong and i, like everyone else i'm sure, am only rying to help

now that clears some of it... :@

thank U

If sangat is allowed to sit in the amrit sinchaar ceremonies and just watch, they'll die of shame :@ . Such an amazing thing is happening in front of their eyes and all they can do is sit and watch, why not be a part of it. So it for their own good, this is for non-amritdharis.

and yeah the 2nd reason is the gursikhs who go pesh.

It is not some sort of show that people can watch from the side lines.

This is a very very important life changing event, why should there be on lookers how did not have the guts to put themselves forward for amrit taking.

This event is confidential between the Guru and his disciples only and non else. This is where Sikh is spiritually tied to his Guru. Why do you have docters seeing patients behind closed doors or any sort of meeting behind closed doors? Because only those directly invovled are allowed in.

So a person who hasn't committed himslf to his Guru can then just look on, Why?

Why should there be any "kuchay pillay" onlookers looking on ?

Just a personal opinion, your statements were kinda rude... or atleast I thought so :@

Its really amazing and I admire everyone of you for taking Amrit but you have to realize that you don't get to that state in an instant. Its not like the ones who haven't taken Amrit aren't tied to Guruji. Not everyone is chardi kala and some have to work much more than others to be able to fully commit yourself.

I just asked that question because I was troubled by it, Guru Gobind Singh ji gave Amrit to panj payare and then recieved Amrit himself when a whole range of people were present. And I choose to disagree with anyone who says that Guru Sahib gave Amrit secretly to the people. Each and every single soul who recieved Amrit that day was a blessed one but they did that when others were present.

Know what.. I thought I'd ask a question in here and hopefully I will be able to understand and remove some of my doubts on Sikhi... but guess I failed to realize that ya'll will divert the main topic and are more interested in dissing this and that, rather than helping a fellow mate...

Bhul Chuk mauf...

thanks for all your replies...

so you still chose what you wanted to belive??

paji i found my answer in the topic. Basically the ceromony is something personal and very special. so personal like a doctor wont allow random people to watch him deal with a patient in the surgery. and so special that it is not advertised widely and recorded becos it its something which is very important and sacred to the religion. Another reason which i think is practical is that the sangat may distract people. and also probably make alota noise cos most of us dont realise the guru is still hear, back in the day, i reckon each person out of the 0000s was silent out of fear or respect........where as in this day and age we are more interested in reading texts or chatting to mates. ........... just what i think i learnt. Also something which is kept hidden from us and made scarce is often seen as important., whether or not The guru gave amrit in the sangat........... hope that helped sum it up............. altho im not worthy of giving an explanation nor do i know anything

I know wat ya'll saying in here... I could just never get around that why it is kept like it is a secret, don't know much about the process coz I always heard things n never got a chance to exp myself... but I guess I wasn't looking from the angle of the one recieving Amrit...

you ppl are rt at sayign that its something extremely important and sacred, and no point making it a display... and also Pesh does make a lot more sense as well... always thought pesh is done seperate...

so once agian thank ya'll :TH:

Its not a secret...its so the people who are taking amrit don't get distracted. That's why the windows (if there are any) are covered as well, so that the person taking amrit is focused on the bhata and not a random gora walking down the street or his mom taking a gazillion pictures in the background.

When its just you, your amrit-taking sangat, Guru Maharaj, and Guru Khalsa, then your attention is not as divided.

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
