I have been to the Baru Sahib International Camp for 2 years. Firstly the atmosphere is soo peaceful and tranquil. Its located in the Himalayan Mountains. The day starts off with Nitnem at Amrit Vela-- so beautiful! I didnt know how to read Gurmukhi before I went there, and in that one month stay I learned how to read Gurmukhi and started Sri Guru Granth Sahib Santhiya. The sewadars there are amazing. Even if they have a million things to do, they will drop everything and make sure you are taken care of.

I cant understand why someone would tell others to not go. The Academy is based on Sant Teja Singh's dream.

Sant Baba Iqbal Singh Ji is now the head of Akal Academy Baru Sahib. He is the most inspiring and humblest person I have ever met. He has such a high avaastha and is immersed in bani, sewa, naam simran.

This camp is absolutely amazing. The amount of chardi kala you feel there is uncomparable. I actually took Amrit at Baru Sahib at the end of my second year of camp. Unfortunately I couldnt go this year because of school, but Waheguru di Kirpa naal, I will return next year! pray.gif

Sat siri Akal

I’m a father of two young children born in the UK myself. My
boy is about to be four and a half years old my girl is two at the minute.

It is a difficult decision to send your children away but
the extended family way of life is getting difficult to keep alive in the UK.
Even more so with the difficulties of constant work.

I have had my nephews and nieces with me and though we have survived
the departure of my younger brother .There is still the concerns of alcohol and
the trapping of westernised life.

My father sees Akal Academy baru sahib as the solution he
says that education is extremely good.

It’s a difficult balance trying to find out what’s best for
your children their education their well being

And their religious values.

I said to my nephew, “Look at the sacrifices that the Guru
made for us” and he asked me what it had to do with him.

You work hard you hope that your children are there to
support you in your old age , I wonder is there salvation on this route.

Are there any parents that have sent their children through
this system?

I have concerns about child abuse, there are rumours about
drugs infiltrating this academy, that it has drifted from it intended path?

Are they false does anyone have personal knowledge of this academy
and others like it??

Many thanks

Ranjit Singh

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh

Akal Academy Baru Sahib is the best Sikh School around but am against sending kids to boarding.

There is an old phrase "Out of sight out of mind" which means, if you do not see someone or something frequently, you will forget about it. (Sometimes used to imply that you will forget about people who have moved away.)

Love is lost, whether it's parents or child.

I have never had an audience with Baba ji but would like to suggest opening Akal Academies (day boarding) in big cities as well.

Coming to UK, there are several options

http://www.khalsaschool.co.uk/

http://www.khalsasecondaryschool.com/index.html

http://www.nishkamschooltrust.org/

Other boarding options in India

http://www.fatehacademy.com/

http://www.grdedu.com/

I would still recommend that you find means to make more money and let your kids have a normal family life.

Wjkk wjkf ji

I've been to Baru Saheb for 13 years. Most of what I am today is because of what I've been taught there. So, it simply wouldn't be right for me to start counting the negatives about sending your kids there.

I shall simply explain my opinion via two simple points:

1> I never dare to dream about sending my 3 year old son there.

2> Sikhi can never be spoon-fed. One gets it with very good karams alone.

Three of my cousins/nephew (mama's grandson/granddaughters) went to baru sahib - when they came back in their home after couple of months..they cut their kesh, broke their amrit- start doing fashion other kalyugi stuff etc..moral of this event being- sikhi is pyaar da marg and its life chaging expereince, its not preached by force or thaga/hath or super imposed, while hath is needed to keep one foundation strong at the beginning to discipline rehat etc...i believe they over do it instead of keep balance..it ended up having adverse effect on the kids...its law of nature- you cannot repress/suppress individual for a long one day they revolt back ugly.

I was searching youtube for islam and stuff , came across with muslim kuriya with hijab/niqab dancing moojra shamelessly in the video with their islamic dress, from their point of view- they are just being natural which is quite expected after all they didn't choose islam but it was super impose on them by parents and by mullahs...we should seriously start avoiding muslim type shariaism on kids..we can see their failure..its quite evident, its good to learn from your mistakes, but its even wiser to learn from other people mistakes.....we need to do carefully- need to strike a right balance -cannot go totally right or left on kids..otherwise they will revolt back ugly..!!!
