That maybe true but its the sikh image that is being damaged. The best education is Example. If as a parent you dont want your kids to do something then the first thing to do would be not to do it your self.

So Sikh fathers need to make sure that they dont drink and also discourage their children to drink.

This kind of education need to start at home then in the gurdwaras.

i think the jatt culture has a lot to do with it. i come from a jatt family and all they say is that if a jatt doesn't drink he isn't jatt, but it only goes for the uncles's becuase if any of their kids srink they say awe that kid is messed up, the whole jatt thing is getting out of control i mean i just heard a punjabi song which says, "jatt to rab wi darda..." which translates into even God is afraid of a jatt, talk about HANKAR to the 500th power, this jatt thing needs to end, i mean when i was younger i thought it was really cool being a jatt, but as i got older and started learning about sikhi i realized being jatt is basically not being the guru's sikh becyase a sikh has more pride in his sikhi rather than his "jattness" No drunk jatt has done anything for the world but the qurbaani of the singhs is immeasurable...many people are very quick to point out that even bhindrawaal was a jatt (Brar) as well as some other kharkoo singhs, but they don't realize that it was Sikhi which made them strong not a term or so called race jatt.....

One day when i came to a booth at an local airport to pay parking fees, two south indians were inside the booth and when I extended my arm to pay, one of them asked, "sardar sahib, daaru shaaroo peete ho?" I was like what hell man. I was very angry and thought can't they see my dastar. But at the same time, I thought we are famous for drinking. And when i was leaving he said, "hamare ghar ke paas ek sardar ji rehte hain, hum unke saath peete hain." I kept thinking and thinking till i reached home. When these ppl look at us, they see heavy drunk in us.

dastaar used to be a crown for singhs in the olden days, punjabi culture has turned it into a Johnny walker bottle top, i love punjabi culture but sometimes it makes me sick to my stomach, some aspects that is; such as "sardars" who sing punjabi pop songs about liquor and girls.......jhutiaan paain waaliyan ah punjbaian de......

hey anybody remember from western history class about the Great Awakening, i think sikhi needs something like that right now, or basically another singh sabha movement, some sort of cleansing of sikh culture which is being dilluted by bad aspects of punjabi culture....i live in the USA and i always had this idea that sikhs in England and Canada are real "hardcore" well to my surprise i see that punjabi youths in canada use their sikh heritage to join in gang violence and killings and sikhs in england have their club parties and glassi junctions by gurdwaras and pubs with Guru nanak dev ji's photo as well as Guru gobind singh ji's photo, also in restaurants in new york, i know pictures mean nothing in sikhi, but it seems kind of wrong....i america we kind of look up to the sikh communities of england and canada because they are in such big numbers but lately not much good news is coming out about those canadians and english ;)

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
