in my personal way i will say Larrivaar guru sahib jee.. cauz the hand written guru granth sahib jee in amritsar is written in that format and that's the original ! BUT since message from both guru granth sahib jee is same, So it doesn't matter.. and hence both is our real guru granth sahib

i think the broken word format is to make majority of sikhs to understand it's meaning and message..

The original saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was laree-//.

I think pad-chhed was done about 100 or so years ago. It was very difficult for a person to read Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and extremely hard to do Akhand Panth. I think Prof. Sahib Singh wrote a essay on the the shabad, "aiti maar payee kurlaney tain ki darad na aaya..." and people and scholors translate this sabad that Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji complained Akal Purukh that sending Babar and killing of innocent ppl doesn't hurt You (God). When we make this shabad laree-//, the translation happends to be different, depening on how one prounces the syllabels. As one can see though out Sikh history, our Gurus never complained Akal Purukh for anything. They accepted His will and asked us to "bhane vich rehna". And saying Guru Nanak Dev Ji blamed Akal Purukh is totally against the teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Sant Waryam Singh Ji translate this shabad that Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is refering to Babar, not Akal Purukh, for the killings innocent ppl that doesn't it hurt you (Babar) when you kill innocent ppl.

There is another Shabad whose translation is, "Truth is high, but still higher is truthful living." And when we join the shabads of this shabad together and make them laree-// again, the translation becomes totally different, depending on how one reads the shabad.

One day Jaswant Singh was doing keertan in our local Gurdwara and talked about pad-chhed and mentioned these two shabads that what kind of damage pad-chhed has done to the essense of Gurbani. He also mentioned that the meaning of a shabad, forgot which one it was, has changed 3 times in his lifetime. He said that Gurbani should be

read as it was given to us, laree-//, and even if it is difficult to pronounce and understand, Guru Ji would help us what Guru Ji is saying. But the people who did pad-chhed make meanings themselves and separated the words as they thought this is what it means and so on.

We are not perfect, nor were the ppl who did pad-chhed, and therefore, there is a very good chance that they might have made a mistake. The words are the same, but they are separeted from the laree.

I do not know much about it and just shared what I have heard.

bhul chuk di khima...

Sat Sri Akal:

Paad-chhed written Gurbani is still Gurbani. So Guru Granth Sahib saroops, even if Paad-chhed, should be respected as such.

HOWEVER, the origional writings of the Guru Sahiban are in larivaar. That is they way they wrote it and that is the way it should be printed and taught. Difficulty...eh. Here is an example:

Iwenttogurudwarasahibandhadlangar.

Ok...so it takes a bit longer to understand, but it is not impossible (and there are classes to teach how to read larivaar Gurbani). Pad-chhed, as already stated, is done by a person to the best of their abilities, and is subject to variations as breaking the same tuk a different way can mean another thing. This Gurbani was recieved in larivaar format from the Almighty itself and we should therefore leave it as such.

My views. Forgive and correct mistakes.

you know

when you said

Iwenttogurdwarasahibandhadlangar

I actually made myself READ what you wrote

and I actually made myself PROCESS the information to make sure I was understanding it

so let me get this straight, you're saying I WENT TO GURDWARA SAHIB AND HAD LANGAR.

aah, i understand. Boy am I glad I had to FOCUS MORE.

I think ladeevaar suroop definately makes you focus more.

This way reading paath is a journey of learning. You aren't baby-fed the infinite truth, you need to do A LITTLE EFFORT.

it's all guru's grace

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
