Reckless Incident leads to Beabdi of Guru Granth Sahib Ji's Saroop at Gurdwara Dixie

Tuesday 27th of November 2007

Panthic Weekly News Bureau

Brampton, Ontario (KP) – Panthic Weekly has learned from trusted sources that an incident that took place yesterday at the Dixie Gurdwara Sahib has led to severe beadbi of a saroop of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Despite pressure from local Sangat, the committee members have decided to keep quiet on the matter and no official revelations have been so far.

A sevadar based in Ontario during a phone call informed Panthic Weekly that around 11 PM on November 24, some ‘unidentified’ kids entered the Akhand Path Sahib room (Room #5) and lit the chaur sahib on fire with matches. The fire from the chaur sahib passed down the rumallas and then caught the saroop of Guru Granth Sahib. The saroop was left unattended and still in parkash form although it well late at night. It was also learned that reckless sevadars are often blamed for not doing sukhasan of Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s saroops at night time.

It has not been revealed by the committee members for how long the fire kept burning but it has been learned that when sevadars reached the incident, binding and a major portion of the saroop was completely destroyed. The fire was so severe that it also destroyed the carpet underneath the palki. While this incident took place inside, Sangat in large numbers was present at the Gurdwara Sahib ‘enjoying’ the fireworks display that was going on outside on the day of Gurpurab.

After reaching the spot, the saroop was secretly transferred and locked up in the Sukhasan room. Agan-bhet sevadars were called in the morning and asked to perform saskar of the saroop secretly. Dixie Gurdwara has special machines to cremate birdh saroops, pathis and gutkas. The whole service was performed furtively from the Sangat.

The committee has been approached by local Singhs to reveal more information about the incident but it has decided to not share any information in public. Room #5 has at least three surveillance cameras installed but their footages have also been secreted from the Sangat.

If you truly love your guru you wouldn't stand to see such carelessness, and let someone else worry about it. Dixie gurduaaraa is run by modern day masands, there's already a lawsuit filed against the commitee for misuse of funds, youth need to get more involved in the committee and with guru saheb's kirpa we can have something like BC, a committee with youth being a large part of it.

BC Sikh Youth Committee has done so much good in that community, they've bought a house for the granthi and ragi singhs to live in and they've paid off the house, among other really good projects, we need to start doing the same in Toronto. We need to wake up singho!

There will probably be a meeting on the weekend, daas will keep the sangat posted.

This is shocking, this new day masands are only good for khalistan talk and gain support from public not when it comes to maryada of guru sahib they are worst of all, this incident should be fully investigated and proper procedures should be put in place to avoid this incident again, procedures like- enforce rules kids are not allowed to play in the darbar, assign an sevadar who can stay in darbar halls all the time, put notices everywhere kids playing will not be allowed, warnings kids will be kicked if they are caught running around in the darbar. If anything, there should be separate sound proof room, just for mobile users/kids playing/women doing their talk and all that, all this has to banned from guru sahib darbar.

How on earth could something like this happen? ohmy.gifpray.gif There should have been an adult there, and if there wasn't, it should have been locked. Summin needs to be done about gurdwara security and adult supervision...

BTW it's not just the women who do the talking respect.gif

I think you just summed up 80 % of the Global Gurdwaras there. Neglect is the word that comes to mind. Whilst the sangat focus on fireworks, weddings, keeping relatives happy...who's then really bothering with the real sewa

The commitee has nothing to do with this.

Paathis and Granthi take care of day to day stuff, commitee just pays bills, gets visas, does repairs.

this could have happened at any gurdwara.

its easy to blame people, but they should only be blamed if its really their fault.

It isnt the commitee that does parkash and sukhasaan of guru sahib.

it isnt the commitee that gives the kid a lighter or match.

it isnt the commitee that left guru sahib unattended

    • the whole 'your husband/wife is chosen for you'/sanjog thing is real, it's just that a lot of people end up marrying the wrong person. they did not end up with the person that was meant for them. my friend, you should marry someone who you feel a connection with and love. there are millions of sikh girls, i'm sure you can find someone who aligns with your sensibilities and who you can truthfully say that you love. sikhi does not say anything against love marriages. you can also be in a loveless arranged marriage which is a safe option b/c both families are more inclined to keep the union intact. i was one of those people who was like meh, i guess i'll just get arranged to some sikh. well i finally started dating for the first time this year and i'm getting married to someone that i love and cannot even imagine leaving. i think it's better to have lost & lost than never loved at all. unfortunately, a lot of people confuse love w/ looks & lust. a lot of men go for the fittest girl they can find and think they won the jackpot or something. in reality, your partner should be like an extremely loved best friend. there's a reason why it's a fact that the most stable and long-lasting relationships started as friendships.  i also think a lot of women are petty and divorce over small reasons, but there's other terrible things like high cheating rates as well. that's why the divorce rate in the west is high. be careful out there.
    • andrew tate praises sikhi too & likes sikhs. his brother also donated to sikh families iirc. they just like any "alpha" religion and tbh islam is the most "alpha" in their eyes. islam is very good at promoting that image. but imo a real alpha man doesn't command respect by beating up his wive(s) or forcing them to wear a burqa. a real man will have his woman listen to him w/o raising a hand or his voice, and command respect by being respectful. he leads by example and integrity. that's true masculinity. you get the idea. + yes, it's definitely true that islam is growing rapidly and making massive inroads. strength in numbers + belief will do that. but rlly it's just because of the birth rate. a lot of them are muslim b/c it's their "identity" just like how a lot of young sikhs will say they're "culturally sikh" or whatever. there just aren't billions of sikhs who lambast their identity everywhere and have strict and linear rules like in islam. besides, the reality is that islam and its followers are some of the most morally bankrupt. you can see all the weird trans rules in iran, bacche baazi in afghanistan, visiting brothels, watching p*rn, p*dophilia what goes on behind the scenes in countries like uae & qatar, etc, and come to your conclusions. you can google all the stats yourself and see which countries do the most of these ^.
    • stop associating with hinduism, that's the absolutely worst thing you can do as a sikh. not sure if you noticed but the entire world looks down upon and spits at india & hindus, literally no one respects them and considers them weak and cowardly. literally 1+ billion of them but not perceived as a strong religion commandeering respect.
    • you wrote a whole lot but told us nothing. what exactly did you do wrong to make you feel this way?
