PATIALA: Shiromani Akali Dal( Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann who was arrested Thursday morning from his native Talania in Fatehgarh Sahib district was not produced in any court. It is expected that he will be presented in the court on Friday.

The reports said that he was made to sit in police station Kotwali at Patiala for whole day.

S.K.Asthana SSP Patiala said that a case under section 153 A of IPC for hurting sentiments of people was registered against him based on a statement made by him that Shaeed Bhagat Singh was not a martyr. He said that police would produce Mann in the court and seek his police remand.

C.S.R.Reddy IG Patiala zone personaly supervised the operation to arrest Mann early today morning. Mann has recently stated that Bhagat Singh had no contribution in freedom struggle as he was involved in petty acts of killing certain people. The statement of Mann was criticised by various sections of society. He had stated that Beant Singh, Satwant Singh are the real martyrs who killed Indira Gandhi.

his son iman singh puts the indians in a bind because he stated that Gandhi and Nehru declared bhagat singh a terrorist and actually signed his death warrants, and these two figures are hailed in india as Bapu and Chacha of the nation. whereas simranjit singh gets a jail sentence.

even if simranjit singh is wrong, the hypocrisy of the indian gov't is blatant. very comparable to the bhindrawaala portrait and the naming of places after indira.

in real democracies all of these events and statements would lead to a national dialogue, but instead, the backwards pseudo democracy in india lands people in jail for sedition.

for example in the bhindrawaala portarit issue, there needs to be national dialogue on the facts surrounding this figure. the same goes for bhagat singh. what are people afraid of? the truth?

blind exceptance of figures is all too common in india, any questioning of the status quo is blasphemy, it's kind of freaky really.

just like people have the right to consider sant jarnail singh a terrorist, people should have the same right for figures such as indira, bhagat singh etc etc. it is called freedom of speecha nd expression and freedom of thought.

no sikh is forcing hindus etc to view sant ji as a martyr, he is confined to this status in the sikh panth. but indian heroes and figures are shoved down the throats of all people regardless of their personal views.

peace.

Hmm there is something missing here...

i was just listening to India News Radio and they stated that S.S. Mann did say this about bhagat singh but he also said real sikhi matyr is that of sant jarnail singh jee... who actually woke up a sleeping nation .. so i think he was more of comparing the two and showing a shaheed martyr in sant jee is as to all this happening in india rite now over sant jees picture up in amritsar..

I don't think Bhagat Singh can be a Shaheed. His actions were not influenced by Sikhi but by Marxism.

He may not be a shaheed for Sikhi but he certainly was a shaheed in the battle against Anglo-Saxon dominance in India/Punjab.

Plus he did come from a Sikh background and you know what.....I bet some of what he learnt about Sikh shaheeds growing up influenced him, whether he recognised it or not.....

He is still a son of Punjab, representing values that of all people, the Sikhs should understand.

the word shaheed does not have to be with sikhi.

as a matter of fact, thats the same word they use in islam.

shaheed meaning giveing your life up for your rights.

weather that be religious right, or civil rights.

giving up your life fighting for what you believe is shaheedi.

but fighting for a cause, not just any ordinary issue.

Pics and info here ,they say hes in until 20th December, sources and his son say it's a conspiracy by the RSS, and government to keep him and his crew away from Fateh Marches across Panjab on the 14th.

I see the same events as the time when lucha sauda started,Sikhs being rounded up,bet you Bittu will be next ,they want to keep as many Sikhs away from the Fateh marches as possible

The reason why many eulogize Bhagat Singh is because they want Sikhs to identify themselves with being like Bhagat Singh i.e. to say being an Indian first than Sikh.

Didn't Bhagat Singh cut his hair for his "desh"?How was this action as per Sikhi, he was a Desh Bhagat. He was an Atheist,Arya samajist and a Marxist. Is that Sikhi? Rest of what you want to assume lies on wobbly imagination without any basis of facts.

He may have been a shaheed but not for Sikhs. It is almost like saying just because Buta Singh died for his Muslim love, Sikhs should consider him a great Shaheed of Love.
