There is nothing stupid about trying to maintain the honour of your family. Firstly the girl goes out with a Muslim, regardless of religion, children of that age should not be engaging in such activities. When the family found out, in order to save face they arranged the girls marriage, this is a common procedure, what do you expect them to do? Ignore the fact that their daughter is going out with someone out of marriage?

When they mentioned this, she ran away from home, if this isn’t irresponsible then I don’t know what is. Now what do you expect the parents to do? Let their daughter roam the streets and forget about her? When they tracked her down, they would have brought her home.

No parents want bad for their family, when you have children you will understand how much they mean to you and how much honour your children hold for you. Nowadays everyone thinks that the parents are in the wrong for trying to keep their family together.

As the article states, their intentions were well intended, but the result was tragic. At the end of it, the parents ended up in a situation worser then before.

family honour?? who cares about family honour?? they have NO right to force her to do something against her will, especially marry sum1... she's 16 years old... yes SHE WAS WRONG... but SO WERE THEY... 2 wrongs don't make a right.. it doesn't matter if it was her parents, her family... they are nobody to forcefully take her life away from her, and make her marry someone... they have NO right to take her free will away from her... that is called OPPRESSION... this so called 'family honour' is the root cause of MANY problems within the Indian, and Sikh community...

who cares about family honour? are you serious?

we call ourselves the sons and daughters of Guru Gobind Singh ji, and then we ask questions like that^^^

what the hell is wrong with our damn conscience's people??

there is no such thing as "right" when you go against your dharam.

we grow up in foreign countires and all we cry about is our right to do this, and our right to do that....blah blah blah. "oh were have the right to express oursleves" "oh we have the right to marry who ever we like" "oh oh oh".......thats a bunch of b.s.

when you do such things that put stain on your dharam, you lose your every "right".
