Khalsa JI..I do not doubt, tha Bhenji meantioned in the first post had great Sharda :)

an experience..

WE were flying to France ..and my Grandma was with us, and she forgot to take of Sri Sahib..

WHen the metal Detector noticed it n stuff.and theey foudn out..they were like ohmy.gif

And then my cousin went out to book it..but they couldn't due to that the desks were shut n stuff,.

Cars parked really far away, hence he wouldn't be able to mkae it to the flight if he went to the car...so he hid it behind a photo machiene (at the airport)

henc emy Grand mother didn't have her Kirpan on for like a week.

When we got Back We found it there, and she put it on again :@ :D

sad ..Sikhs can't have their kakkar on

Bhulkl chukk maaf!

WJKK, WJKF:

It is very unfortunate that Western Governments cannot look past the physical appearance of our Kirpans and recognize the importance and symbolic meaning of them.

With that said, in a post 9/11 world, it is virtually impossible to make any inroads on this issue for the indefinite future. Here in the United States, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is adamant that under no circumstances will amritdhari Sikhs be allowed to wear their kirpans, regardless of size. Their number one priority is to ensure the safety of airline passengers, and they will not make any exceptions for anyone no matter what. It has been reported that necklace type kirpans that are the size of your pinky are allowed, but even then I have heard that some Sikhs have been told to leave them behind by security officials.

The right to wear the kirpan goes well beyond airports. It also applies when Sikhs go to courts, embassies, and other government offices throughout the world. There have been several court cases in the US that have been successfully litigated that have allowed Sikhs to wear kirpans in schools and on the job. Beyond that, the law is less clear. For a list of applicable cases and additonal info please go here:

My advice for those of you who are looking to travel, is to do ardaas, place your kirpan in your checked luggage, and then upon arriving at your destination, remove the kirpan

and do ardaas again. Whether you choose to drink or eat anything in between that time is in my opinion, a personal choice (after all, those US-India journeys can take up to 23 hours!). ohmy.gif

Meanwhile, we should continue to educate our elected officials and those responsible for overseeing airline security about this issue. I know that SMART and the Sikh Coalition have been working on this for some time, and if you feel that you have been wrongfully discriminated against in any way shape or form, please do not hesitate to contact them.

Finally, here is a link to SMART’s Sikh passenger bill of rights. Anyone who is traveling to or from the United States should print this out before embarking on his or her journey.

If the Kangha, Kara or Kirpan are separated from your body, it is forbidden to eat or drink until they are replaced. Upon the replacement of your missing Kakkar, an Ardas must be performed for the loss and beg for forgiveness. The Ardas may be performed either in a Gurdwara or the place where you are replacing your Kakkar. Having done this, you may eat and drink.

Waheguru jio!

I guess it all comes down to sharda what my veer khalsa ji was talkin about.... its how much love you have for your guru ji ...

Guru ji knows how much love you have for him within. Let me put it this way...

Guru ji wants us to be physically active.. with no food in you expecially on the long plane ride or watever... u will not be able to concentrate on anythin expecially ur nitnem and simran. So i do think its a ritual...

Its the love that counts for your guru. Guru ji understands everythin.. not what some ppl just think ... i can say da same that a maha gursikh has told me no u should eat... dont take me wrong jio, all gursikhs are maha... no doubt... but i guess it all comes down to what YOU think.

Its not that like if you eat... guru ji will not except u ... think about it ...

My .68 rupees (i think .. approx 2 cents) rolleyes.gif

bhul chuk maph! :e:

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!

    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
