find yourself some good youth sikh sangat in Vr, theres plenny

exactly where are u from?

I'm sorry to the poster who was mixed up about methadone, I just get a lot of grief from the same mother who loves Sikhism about it.

I'm in a semi blissful state :(, it's those around me that feel the need to resort to dragging others down that really just makes me cry. And once again (I don't mean to sound rude), I'm taking methadone as part of a recovery process, try typing "Methadone" into "Google.com." :)

I'll be VERY happy once I'm far away from my mother, and a baptised Sikh :) .

I do my banis every morning, my rehras sahib... I don't think you understand, It's hard for me to become a baptised Sikh. I don't know how to, there are no gurudwaras in my city. I can go on a ferry an hour away to Vancouver, but I'de end up wondering around for a day and not accomplish much. I'de much rather somebody (A poster) from Vancouver help me out here. (Like, in person.)

I live in Victoria BC, by the way...

No YOUTH Sikh Sangats, not a chance!

Not even a Gurudwara!

Dear bro, I have heard some really nice things about the Gurdwara Sahib in New Westminster(http://www.sukhsagar.ca/) which shud not be that far from your place. This Gurdwara Sahib is in the hands of sikh youth and they do some really nice parchaar. If I was you, I would certainly visit this Gurdwara and chakk amrit.

I am no expert but Amritvele meditation wll help a lot. Just say Vaheguru again and again with your eyes closed. There is also an excercise for beginners who finds it hard in concentrating in meditation. In a dark room lght up a candle and try to concentrate on the tip of the flame and dont forget to keep saying Vaheguru and do sit in ' CHOWKRHI' with your spine straight.

It will also give you positive energy for the whole day.

And believe that Guru is always beside you.

'Guru mere sang Sadaa ahi naale'

All that drug chat reminded me of a joke.

Once a man saw his friend taking drugs. He tried to talk some sense into him.

'You should not take this stuff its not good for you. What if you get used to it. AAdat pai jugi yaar''

His friend replies ''o Chhadd yaar, its been 10 years, hun takk ta aadat paii nai!''

I agree. If you contact them I am sure they will arrange for your transportation and help you find Sangat.

Also, for those who have discourages you from taking amrit while on methadone, I would simply reply be stating methadone is being used for medicinal purposes, we have no right to issue a judgment on whether you can or cannot take amrit. However, I highly doubt many would refuse to give amrit to one taking oxycodone or morphine for medicinal purposes, even though they too can produce altered states of mind.

Also, I do not personally see any issue with you wearing your panj kakkars in preparation. If you keep your kes than you can also wear a Kara. I hightly doubt those telling you not to wear a Kara will tell you to remove your kes as well.

However, when it comes down to it the best advice anyone can give you is to consult the Panj Pyairay in your region, discuss with them these issues of wearing kakkars and taking amrit and follow accordingly. Do not be bound by the advice or word of anyone on this forum, instead please contact the Gurdwara Sahib in New Westminster, speak to the Panj Pyairay there and take their word, as the word of the Guru.

i don't think anyone is saying he "can or cannot" take amrit, amrit isn't something we "take", it's something we are blessed with. i think as long as he is honest with panj piyare than it should be fine. but i think it's essential that he be honest with them about his situation.

if there is a 3ho oriented sangat nearby (someone mentioned yoga something...), they might be especially good to talk to about preparing for amrit, as they have a lot more experience with your specific situation than most punjabi sikhs will.

regarding kakkars... no one is saying don't wear a kadha... but a kirpan? there's a lot of responsibility that comes with the kirpan. i've never met anyone who advocates wearing the kirpan before amrit.

There is no reason why he cannot wear, infact its a good practice to wear a kirpan before having amrit, it prepares him stronger, so I totally disagree with your comments, and I have seen many who wear the 5 kakkars before having Amrit, hes got so much "pyar" towards Guru ji, why not wear the whole thing plus 5 kakkars, be proud, be proud of being a Sikh!

try to read GURU GRANTH SAHIB online translation from start to finish ,a few verses/pages a day ,the one with english translation .that will help you understand GURUJI'S message ,and you will be guided by GOD and GURU in your life .

other books i recommend are the spirit born people by professor puran singh ,various novels by bhai vir singh ,ujaro dipa ,various online speeches by yogi bhajan which u get from 3H0 websites .also good to download kirtan from websites such as akj.org ,etc etc .all this will plunge you into a world of kirtan ,of sikhi ,of naam ,and give your mind ideas of the way forward .

as for your mom ,show her the love and kindness every child should show to their parents ,and do not internalise her views /opinions about anything to make you hate or loathe her .live by example ,dont practise rejection of your mom and in time she will slowly change through GOD'S grace .include her in your daily prayers .

also seek the friendship of inspired young sikhs in your area with whom you can hang out ,interact ,and visit and socialise .maybe pm some of those ppl who have given u advice here

that they may share their cell phone numbers /AIM /MSN with you so u can talk to them too .

also find out if there are any akj/saadsangat/3ho camps/semagams/activities around your area .

pm me privately too if need be

luv ya ,u on the right track
