TAKING AMRIT

Recommended Posts

WJKK WJKF,

Why are we so reluctant to take Amrit? I've been contemplating whether or not to take it, and I come accross minor excuses. "I'm not good enough," or "I won't be able to get up in the morning to do paht."

Well if you question yourself if your not good enough, you are cause you care to be a good amritdhari. I being a Sikh, can never leave the Sikh path of life. It's been 20 yrs since the 1984 attack, and 400 yrs when the SGGS was installed at Darbar Sahib in Amritsar.

If we Sikhs can't even take an hour or more out of our life to read gurbani and do paht, that is pretty lame and pathetic. All of those who died for the panth, would want to see the Sikh Panth grow and flourish.

The Panj Pyaray took Amrit, not even knowing what they were getting into. They had total love for the guru. And I'm sure all of us Kesdharis here have the same exact love.

Taking Amrit, is being devoted, committed to Sikhi. I don't see one negative effect of taking Amrit.

Not to say that I'm the most completely best person in this world, but I'm sure many of us stay away from the 5 evils- Kam, Krod, Lobh, Moh and Hankar. All we would have to do is adjust our attitude, and always stay positive in the Guru's light.

We tend to portray being Khalsa as something out of the task, becoming Khalsa is becoming PURE, is that so hard? Maybe in this society. Maharaj Guru Gobind Singh Ji molded the Sikhs into Singhs and Kaurs and gave mankind universal brotherhood.

I have changed so much as I've read more about Sikhi. Being a pro, bruah, ego "JATT MUNDA", to seeing the wisdom of the Gurus. Everything in our life can

be taken away, but not our Sikhi.

Sikhi teaches the most PRACTICAL, RATIONAL ways of living.

"Sir Jave Ta Jave, Meri Sikhi Sidhak Na Jave."

Lastly, I'm the biggest hypocrite, I keep the name "Khalistani Singh." Yet not even Khalsa. I think its about time that we Sikhs, that who have not taken Amrit yet, step up.

The only thing that bothers me is that will it be okay just to "listen to do paht" in the mornings since I cannot read Gurmukhi. But hmm I still won't have a clue what I'm listening to? But over the course years I will pick up?

And what are other MANDATORY THINGS one will have to do to become AMRITDHARI?

BHUL CHUK MAAF,

WJKK WJKF!

I think why we are all afraid to take amrit at one point or another, is for that exact reason, jee. We list off sooooo many things, that when we look back we get scared and run away.

To me, there are ONLY THREE RULES:

1. listen to the guru

2. understand the guru

3. become like the guru

Beyond that, it is following your heart. If you really believe that Guru Gobind Singh wished us to do something or another, just do it. Don't question why or how. Remember, Guru isn't a computer program that if you do the following items, you get into God's relm, otherwise, go-to start.

For your question about Path, I personally have a hard time reading punjabi as well... Start by using a romanized English Guttka, preferably one which has an english translation with it. That will allow you to speak path with your own mouth, and at least have a general grasp on what you are saying.

If you keep that up, you shall be a Khalsa soon enough! :umm:

Khalistani Singh ji:

Check out the " Tips for when taking Amrit" in the Inspiration section B)

Look through a sikh rehit maryada book that tells the mandatory requirements like 5 K's.

Also look at what is forbidden.

anyone know a good link online that has that kinda stuff?

The Amrit of the Double-Edged Sword

Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogiji addresses persons about to take Amrit.

It is a very fortunate day today. This occasion comes once in a lifetime. To give your ego and become egoless is a very rare opportunity. Even if you want to call it a ritual, it is a ritual of self-contained consciousness.

It is not so ordinary in the life of a man that he accomplishes his "longing to belong" to someone which is Infinity.

In the beginning there was the Word. Word was with God, and the Word was God." You might not have experienced the Ultimate Truth of Infininty, but today, out of your emotional devotion, you are going to walk on that Path. It is a Path of Righteousness. Sat karam, sat kirit, sat gyaan. You are going to do something righteously on the Path of Righteousness, and you are going to know the Truth. Belonging to this fact of life is the way on which you are proceeding.

It is not an easy path. Don’t misunderstand that this is just a ritual which you are doing. It is a test of your totality and personality. You have certain things to do, and you have certain sacrifices to make, and you have a certain way to live. That discipline, that tapas, that sanjam, is the way of life you are entering.

It is your fortunate karma that your prayers are being answered. Understand one thing: if you would not have been existing in prayer, if you would not have had a longing to belong to someone, God would not have provided this opportunity. All prayers are not answered, all do not get to the Path and reach the destination. It is a rare opportunity.<

br>

Mustuk bhaj jineh kay, tinha har sant milaya."The destiny is written on the forehead of some who meet the Saints and take the Path of Righteousness." It doesn’t happen to everyone all the time under all circumstances. Sometimes the longing to belong is so heavy, that God gives an opportunity to give self to Him.

Today, you are going to be baptized in the Panth of Khalsa. Remember, the word Khalsa means "pure ones." Today the Amrit, this nectar, has been prepared out of the two-edged sword, which represents the negative force and positive force and on the very tip of this sword lives the soul of the being, which is Right Conduct and Right Consciousness. Now you are going to be baptized in that Panth. You are saying, "My will is Thine, O Lord, Thy Virtues are mine, whatever comes from Thee is all to me." You rise early in the morning, taking the Naam and reciting the Banis, living righteously, earning righteously and being in that Brotherhood. Whenever you meet each other you have to say, ‘Wahe Guru Ji ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji ke Fateh!’

Your mantra will be Wahe Guru. It is a mantra of ecstasy. If the Seed Mantra, the Bij Mantra of Sat Nam has gone deep into your heart, then you will know better than anyone else, the rhythm of Wahe Guru, the mantra of ecstasy.

Under all environments, the life of the Khalsa is the life of a soldier and a saint blended in one way of life. Sometimes, in this country especially, we do not understand the significance of a saint, nor the significance of a soldier. You might have thought that a soldier is one who kills. Then, you are the soldiers who are going to kill all the negativity and should live righteously in the light of God-consciousness to proceed on your path.

Belonging together, living together, sacrificing together; today when you take this Amrit, sharing it, it means there is no difference of caste, creed, race or color.

It is fortunate that you have been brought to this end now, to belong to someone, your own Creator, because of

this consciousness for which you have longed through many incarnations.

Last word of advice to you is: after receiving this chance which has come to you after many lifetimes, don’t miss it, and having taken it, never spoil it.

What's the Truth behind this AMRIT ?

Page 119, SGGS

The Shabad is Amrit, The Lord's Bani is Amrit !

It is not water taken in a Gurudwara, 'blessed' by people like you and me with some prayers, who think they can administer this AMRIT to the many millions seeking salvation, is it... ?

For those who dont know, believe or have been brain washed by so called 'peers' 'scholars', 'learned', blah, blah, blah into beleiving anything else, here lies the TRUTH.

Do I hear, objection your honour...?
