Sikhi says that God only knows.

What was that time, and what was that moment? What was that day, and what was that date?

What was that season, and what was that month, when the Universe was created?

The Pandits, the religious scholars, cannot find that time, even if it is written in the Puraanas.

ਵਖਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਕਾਦੀਆ ਜਿ ਲਿਖਨਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਕੁਰਾਣੁ ॥

That time is not known to the Qazis, who study the Koran.

ਥਿਤਿ ਵਾਰੁ ਨਾ ਜੋਗੀ ਜਾਣੈ ਰੁਤਿ ਮਾਹੁ ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ॥

The day and the date are not known to the Yogis, nor is the month or the season.

ਜਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਿਰਠੀ ਕਉ ਸਾਜੇ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਈ ॥

The Creator who created this creation-only He Himself knows.

Not even scientists know the true date of the Earth. They have no conclusive evidence, they can only estimate. But obviously we don't beleive the world is only 6000 years like the bible says. The Earth is more likely to be about 4.5 billions years old like scientists estimate, but once again only God will ever know the true date it was created.

But having said that, it is not that the Guru wants you to become content with not knowing, much about science. Its just that, the Guru says the more you describe, the more questions arise. Like whenenver scientists solve a problem, they are only left with more unsolved mysteries. Gurbani says the mysteries of the universe is infinate, and that we can never comprehend it entirely. However, unlike any other religion, we are not suppose to be content with not knowing the truth.

Because God reveals things to you, the more you get to know him. Having knowledge of everything, is one of the desires in every human mind. Our goal is to get to God, and when we do, we shall know everything. So accept that it is God's will that you can't comprehend everything now. However don't just settle for this. The Guru wants you to know everything. But science can never tell you everything, only God can. Thats why Gurbani tells us to get to God. Then all the true secrets will be revealed.

can i assume that the sikh religion would have no problems with other beings from other planets? ie. that we may not be the only life created by god?

there is a life on other planets, not are there countless life on other planets in this universe, there are countless other universes! this is the sikhi belief. even scientists now believe there may be countless universes other then our own.

this 2 part vid explains the multiple universe, aka 'the multiverse'. such a beautiful name.

the leading science experiments and theories are very very similar in nature of what our bani describes, but our bani goes that extra 'mile' (so to speak). the major theory is M theory. i have spent my time in reasearching this theory and learning this theory. it is a remarkable theory. it can be thought to be the uniting theory of our universe.

anyway, those of us that are slightly scientifically illiterate may find it hard to follow the explaination.

other such models include the brane worlds. it is really very intriguing.

i frequently say that when the chance arose for the question of 'what is that?' science looked outward, and religon looked inwards. i personally feel that science and religon will come around and meet each other and then science will say, 'oh yea! ok ur right!' to religon.

geo how many continents have you covered in your life? you are safe only in the developed part of the world where there is a very just and able state machinery to protect you and your rights. if you are a scientist then asking this question on a religious forum is very unwise, but seems like you just another blind fool full on a dose of fake sense of security. have you ever been to bihar or north east india, where people get abducted, chained , tortured and killed to a very painful death? the universe is very very far away my friend. take care!
