Pathetic Politics In Canada

As an outsider to Canadian politics, it all seems incredibly childish and pathetic. Any and every excuse seems to be used to malign the Sikh community there. And talk of multiculturism seems limited to those who whilst may look different are requried to think and act in exactly the same way as the white canadians. Its a joke.

The recent police and government investigations into a FACEBOOK page (LOL!!!) are just tooo ridiculous to believe!! On one hand you have actual islamic terrorists planning and preparing to blow up places across the country and yet the police seem to think that some kids on facebook are the real threat!

This is all classic divide and conquer politics. These stup1d games and publicity stunts are being used to make average sikhs (who may have little understanding of the faith and politics behind whats happening) turn against those who are taking a stance against this kind of rubbish.

If sikhs do peacful protests against a human rights abuser, that causes a problem for the canadian press and people. If Sikhs use their democratic right to call a Dosanjh a traitor, that causes a problem. Despite the courts finding the men accussed of the Air India bombing not guilty ... the press still blames the Sikhs!?! What the heck is going on!?

Im not sure if the Sikhs in Canada have their own political candidate that they can stand behind, but maybe its time they did. In the UK one chap called George Galloway took the plight of the Muslims to heart and created his own political party. We may agree or disagree with their stances and policies but they have been effective in getting their people elected and giving themselves an official voice. Can the Canadian Sikhs in Toronto and Vancouver not get together and create their own party and candidates? It doesnt matter if they dont get elected, it would at least give an official voice to combat the rubbish being spoken as at present.

Also have those that have been following these events closely been keeping a record of all the racism and threats made against the Sikhs by the public on the news forums etc. It might be an idea to collect these and file them with the RCMP as evidence of threats against canadian citizens and ask them to investigate these in exactlly the same way as they are doing for dosanjh.

Sorry if the above is wrong.

Thank you for this thread !!!!! I hope ppl reply to this important thread rather than choose to ignore it !

There are thousands of Sikhs in Canada but very few of them are active. I have one proactive friend who is also a member of this forum.. He wrote this article and also raised the issue on behalf of sikh community in canada (he lives there).. and guess what happened to him? Facebook banned his access just because he wrote something about/against ujjal dosanjh. Most of our punjabi ppl thinks that all "Politicians of the west" are untouchable and they think of them as god like figure/genius/trustworthy with pure heart... Such ppl need to know that they are in fact REAL PUBLIC SERVANT. Politicians of punjab may not be the public servant in reality but such figures in western countries are truly voted by the ppl.

Awareness is needed.. Take an excellent of this wonderful thread by Sikh Federation (UK). That is something we need in Canada !!! Here in United States, both republicans and dems supports majority of sikh cause; both political and social. But you never know when indian lobby group will start pumping $$ and start the machinery to defame and damage sikh face in america. Already started in our neighboring country, so it can happen here anytime !

WHat the SInghs need to do is reach out to Dosanjh (publicly) and ask about his reservations about the orthodox Sikh community if he refuses to meet on grounds of he is busy go to his office along with local councillers so you can voice your concerns on how he is a fellow Sikh brother by attacking constantly you are adding the fuel to the fire that people need to make the Sikh's look bad.

There are a lot of moorakhs that are damaging their own community in the eyes of goras which is obviously either a fear of the unknown or some underhand tactics

How can the sangat be sure that Dosanjh isnt being blackmailed as some major games that are played in politics is to get powerful politicians in comprimising situations and blackmail them

If this is the case an issue needs to be brought up in writing to the Canadian parliment that we feel some of our esteemed representatives may be getting blackmailed on the orders of eastern powers which is not only a threat to the Sikh community but a threat to all Canadians because if another goverment has its representatives under control they can internally destroy Canada after they have finished with the Sikhs

The reason I feel the orthodox sikhs are targeted is they are very hard to buy out and stand up against all tyranny

Think about it if we dont drink fornicate or party and arent attached to maya we are of no use to corrupt politicians which is where I feel the problem lies

But a burden to one person is a gift to the people who truly care about Canada so if Canadians can be convinced that Sikhs are being damaged deliberatly we can combat this disease before it spreads all across Canada

Dosanjh is there for the past 25+ years and he is the biggest supporter of Indian government and indian govt knows how to take care of their snitchs in other countries.

Solutions are:

1) First get all punjabi registered to vote (i betcha less than 50% of punjabis who are eligible to vote are either not registered or not interested in voting at all).

2) Awareness and hold public officials accountable for all local/social problems (ex. Drugs on street in punjabi circle in bc)

3) Open regional non-profit office just for voting/supporting purpose. Do not link with jathas or stuff like that. Keep it neutral and reach everyone.

Sikhlionz is right, forget about dosanjh. Besides televised debate with him, there is no way show the public he is wrong on many things or question his credibility. One thing people forget this man was viciously beaten back in 1984 in the rally(unfortunate incident), in the media as well Canadian public he deemed as national hero because in the media he will be always seen as person who spoke against extremism regardless how ridiculous his claims are in the articles.

On broader context, real god fathers are who have mastered sabotaging Sikh interest which is right to be sovereign within India. In other words, dosanjh is just another pawn in big chess game, just a small fish in a big pond. I would say just ignore talking about him until we can have televised debate with his claims or him.

We need to seriously build an strategy to shield our kaum from RAW/ISI sabotage. I am surprised this is not done in sikh political area. RAW recruitment agency have courses for 2 years where people are taught how to sabotage and infiltrate groups which talks about human right abuse and talks about sovereignty.

What are we doing here? These times are gone for josh/bir ras, these times are for cool heads to sit together and build an strategy against god fathers figures like- RAW AND ISI. If they can infiltrate our kaums in thousands, why can't we do the same? I don't have any ideas because i have no interest in this, but as an outsider, i put a question to all those who are social activist- if they can inflitrate our kaum in thousands and show jaloos of our kaum in media, why can't we do the same?

Absolutely spot on.

If it wasn't for josh, the United States wouldn't be so powerful right now. They have agressively taken over many countries and if you don't have josh, other people or countries just walk all over you. Bir Ras needs to be there, and it certainitly needs to be pointed out to the rest of the interest groups, it's their, but whether to use it, is another whole topic.

bro, josh derailed the Sikh freedom movement, and through a lack of cool-headed thinking and planning we have come out worse than we went in. Sikhs who sympathised or were involved in the movement have said this themsleves.

in the 80s josh was needed because of physical attack from the indian state, now the attack is non-physical with words. So deffo we need our thinking turbans on to counter this, more than to be full of josh. now hosh has to come into play.

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
