Ah the Daily Mail, they can't even do basic mathematical calculations correctly. Sikhs according to LFS are up +1.2% in 2010 compared to 2004 not -1.2%.

These statistics are not from the national census survey but from labour force survey i believe the results of the census 2011 would be out in around 3-5 years time. And the number of Sikhs has risen +1.2 % according to that survey so daily mail have got it wrong about Sikhs but they are right about the falling number of believers in Judaism.

Remember this is a survey, so it was about asking a sample of people and then using maths and stats to come up with a figure based on the sample surveyed.

There is a growing tendancy amongst some Sikh born or educated in the UK, going towards being non belivers this is a fact. The reality is that the problem in the UK regarding our Youth and drugs and drinking, clubbing etc is much greater than in Punjab. The majority of our Youth have no interest in Sikhi, other than having to go to the Gurdwara because its the right thing to do, occasionally. This si to be expected as the culture in whcih we live encourages drinking. However thoes that do get into Sikhi are more committed.

More Parchar and funds need to be spent in the UK, rather than sending everyting to Punjab to get people out of these habits. Money to punjab should be sent to help the poor and needy.

In reality most of the UK are not religious though they would define themselves affiliated to a religion. It's not just youths of Sikh background who are not interested much if you look at other faith groups they are doing everything under the sun the most hypocritical group are the muslims where they commit everything under the sun yet act religious or give themselves the perception they are good muslims just cos they may pray 5 times a day yet their character is disgusting. The least religious of the asian community are the hindu's who are very easy to convert especially the women for islamic fundamentalists.

Until gurdwara committees are not taken over by the sikh youths and a focus of bringing back sikhi into the lives of people then things wont change. Gurdwara committee's are run by people who just see it as a way of having a salary an easy job they do very little to make sure we have strong foundations and a strong sikh community for the future. That generation of Sikhs has died out, we need ourselves to take over the reins and make sure we promote and live sikhi to the best of our individual abilities.

That story stinks of sensationalism. Hinduism up 43% I assume that a fair percentage of that is due to Hare Krishna figures? Think we get a slightly better picture from Census figures to be blunt. Just look at the headline its there to scare its core readership probably.
