hahah those cartoons are hilarious but joke aside, what's the criteria to be apply for sgpc seat? Do you have to have some sort of endorsement from sangat like 1000+ same votes locally? or something?

good question.

if so we could arrange a few honest Singhs into it slowly over the years...but power corrupts unless highest jeevan Singhs

Why are you all worried. Canadians are not stupid. Let the dogs bark. Don't even look at them in ther eyes. I have been living for 36 years and I havev seen a lot of change. Few years back the bolen bolted head barked and the mayor of the Surrey did not come. Well she came to the next years Nagar Kirtan. Freedom of speech. You don't need to counter attack. You just need to preach your religion. 1985 when Air India exploded the Canadian did not care they were they are killing their own so who cares.

Another very interesting set of facts regarding annual budget/revenue of sgpc:

The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), the premier Sikh shrine management

panel functions under the Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925, and runs the temple's affairs. Often

termed the holiest Sikh shrine, the Golden Temple i

s one of the 47 historic Sikh shrines

managed by the SGPC, an elected body of 17Qmembers. All Sikhs can vote to elect these 170

members.

The SGPC is a fairlY cash-rich body, and is often seen as the key to power eQuations in Punjab.

It is often said that control over SGPC coffers decides who controls the Akali Dal. The latest

2004-05 budget was pegged at Rs 224 crores, up from Rs 206 crores in the previous fiscal. Of

all the gurdwaras managedby the SGPC, the Golden Temple's budget, at Rs 47.50 crores ayear

in 2003-04, was the highest.

Collections from offerings made by devotees in cash totaled Rs 15.50crores. Offerings in kind

(Rs 1.25crores), rent from properties (Rs 0.33 crores), offerings made for langar , the communi~

kitchen (Rs 2.40 crores) are some of the other sources of income. The prasad counters generate

an income of Rs 10 crores ayear.

The SGPC undertakes a host of charitable activities, among them several educational institutions

and hospitals run by it. The budget for educational institutions is about Rs 32 crores. Relief

activities, including setting up communi~ kitchens at short notice, are also routinelY undertaken.

The government does get an audit of the accounts done, but the SGPC itself has an internal

audit set-up.

If you wait for sgpc or akaal takhat to do something, it's going to be a looooooooooong wait, why don't the canadian ppl do something? Maybe invite a journalist like we invite the dignitaries(mayors, senators, etc) and show them around. Show them hospitality and the 'good things' going on.. Contact news media....we called ABC news during the Darshan protests, and we always have cameramen filming the yuba city nagar kirtan..you can even say, "We would like a chance to show a nagar kirtan from our point of view, and why we do it and what it means."
