there is a program on in the UK on SKY 111, at 7.30 today. In it Sanjiv visits his fathers ancestral home in Gujranwala pakistan, and on his way there he goers past thje ruins of a big gurdwara. The Gurdwara is in ruins, and the sarovar is bone dry, but Sikh brothers and sisters, this is OUR Guru's house.

Remember the disaster of the creation of Pakistan that we were forced from our beloved places, most of which are just images and dreams in our minds today, of what life around those Gurdwaras was like. when Sikhs lived there.

We dont see much of those forgotten places on tv anymore, so try and look out for it, it comes late in the program.

It would be great if someone could record this and put up the clip with the Gurdwara in it on youtube or something.

regardin the gurdwara, well wat u expect man, wen most sikhs in pakistan dont even live in panjab, but in tribal areas with pathans.

Sad but the SIkh population of Pakistan is too low, just in the thousands. Perhaps if there were a few Lakh Sikhs, they could have taken care of the Gurdwaras better. So far our only hope is to do Sikh Parchar there to the Pakistani Hindu and Christian population and increase the Sikh population like this since Pakistan has a large Hindu and Christian population.

well funny u say that paaji, coz remember the sindhi hindus, r actually mostly sehajdharis, who wanted 2 take amrit durin the 1940s, but due 2 partition happenin wen it happened (1947'), these guys never got 2 take amrit, and therefore havnt probably seen any amrit sanchar ceremonies, and stayed as they are. they are fluent in gurmukhi, and wen some sikhs visit pakistan as yatris (pilgrims) or as grouped jathas, thats when they have opportunities 2 become sikhs n khalsa.

Sindhi group only believes in pehli patshahi Sri Guru Nanak dev Ji for centuries. There are many Sindhis in India too.

Extremely low pop. Of Sikhs in Pakistan is the reason why gurdwaras are not being taken care of properly. Also freedom of religious freedom is always under threat by local society of lawless Pakistan.

The Hindus in Pakistan are a persecuted minority. Many times their girls are kidnapped and married off by force to a Muslim. It's estimated that 60 Hindu girls are kidnapped every month and forcibly married off. Even the government of Pakistan does not help them. But the Sikhs in Pakistan are treated much better. Even the government of Pakistan gives them a higher status than Hindus and Christians of Pakistan. Some districts in Pakistan Hindus form half the population. Doing Sikh parchar to them and bringing them into the Khalsa fold is not far fetched. Unfortunately no Sikh organization is even toying with this idea. There is a lot of Parchar potential in the Pakistani Hindu community. It would not only strengthen the Sikh community in Pakistan but also elevate the status of Hindus in Pakistan. I know people who have done yatra in Pakistan. Even they tell me how the Hindus of Pakistan are like Mona Sikhs. They have a lot of Shardha for the Gurus and do a lot of seva.

the building that was shown looked more like a mandir than gurdwara. maybe the gurdwara was opposite? did anyone else get an urge to visit punjab? :s

No bhaji its a gurdwara, the shape of it looks like a traditional mandir, but it is a Gurdwara.

yes pakistan panjab

I would love to visit pakistani panjab, and see all the historical Sikh places. Having said that, pakistani panjab has become an alien land ot the Sikhs, even though the core of our religious history is there.

It is a good idea, but how would then pakistanis react? They would wnat that if hindus are converting, they shouold be converting to islam, not anyother religion.

There have been sindhi sikhs taking amrit every now and then during the yatras. But not on any larger scale.

I dont think the hindu and christians are going to convert to save our gurdwaras. What we need is for Sikhs who already live in Pakistan to take control themselves and for outside Sikhs to fund them. The Sikhs who live there are mainly business men, and for us to get them to look after the gurdwaras, we would and should, have to pay them a sum that would match their current earnings.

Plus it would be better if the Pakistani Sikhs couples were having 10 kids as well.
