I haven't seen any official news online but if true, this is a great result and something that Sikh youth in other countries need to emulate. The Gurdwaras have so many resources which if utilised properly could bring about a renaissance of Sikhi in every country. Unfortunately the youth rather than taking part in bringing these resources to the community allow the oldies to waste the resources and treat the Gurdwaras like they are their ancestral property.

Language is a very powerful tool. You have to learn how to use it well. The word 'moderate' , to the average man and woman in the world, means level-headed, sane and fair. By saying in your title how the youths have defeated the 'moderates', it translates as hot-headed insane and unfair extremists have defeated the sane and the fair.

The people you call 'moderates' are in fact the extremists. There is Sikhism and the tenets of Sikhism is all too clear. The Sikh youth you talk about are the moderates because they adhere to Sikhism without any distortions. The ones you call 'moderates' are the extremists because they think they can distort Sikhism to suit their own purpose and political beliefs. So extreme in fact that they distort it for the benefit of India rather than Sikhism. Thats about as extremist as extremism gets.

They adorn moderate label since they defied akal takhat. In fact they are atheists.

Sikh youth slates have won, its confirmed by singhg veer on the other thread :D
Sikh Youth Slate: 10287
Moderate Slate: 4330
Akaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal!!!
Now that we fateh the morcha, lets look at this deeper. As sikh is a learner, always should be looking to learn and improve. Lets just captalize on improvement, look at the results above which looks good, we won by huge landmark..Lets also look at the 4330 lost votes, which mean there are 4330 voters out there possibly youths on the other side of spectrum have some qualams or another against sikh youth slate. Surely all-4330 cannot be heretic missionaries/communist- yes big chunk but not all of it, either way we should try to outreach these 4330 voters as well who voted against sikh youth slate and try to win their hearts as well, and find out exactly what are their issues/qualms against sikh youth slate..lets not isoliate lost votes and slag them out totally and forget about it..lets outreach them too individually if possibly or via public statement and work with their concerns, try to patch up some of differences, find a common ground so that we do our khalsa duty to outreach to all and try to win hearts of all and also so that next time, even if this baldev gill want to form an opposition in next election, they have no backbone/ideological support.
Lets all try to kill the imaginary divide (fundamentalist and moderates) that media managed to have created and managed to polarize sikhs based on this imaginary divide.
I think its about time so called moderates leave the old broken decade long discussion of table and chair and move on- sikhi is more than putting table and chairs in the gurdwara, if you must concentrate on table chair- be carpenter or something or own a cafeteria or something.
And i think its about time for other side to while holding sri akaal takth maryada, downplay whole discussion on table and chair and move on and show "moderates" (i m sure sikh youth slate have already done so but lets keep capitalizing on it) that sikhi is more than putting table and chairs and give moderates something to reflect on for example- their child future, social issues, etc etc. I don't need to point out in area of improvement, you guys already doing good job lets hope you guys are keep capitalizing on it.
Keep it simple but at the same time, bring some depth in the parchar, promote/sponspor sevadars like- basicofsikh who is running youtube channel and among others:

http://www.sikh24.com/2012/12/sikh-youth-slate-wins-landslide-victory-in-surreydelta-gurdwara-elections/#.UM-N9OR9Lfc

VANCOUVER, BC, Canada (December 17, 2012)–In an unexpected turn of events, the Sikh Youth slate running in the elections at Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara won a resounding landslide victory against their “moderate” opponents.
The election represents a complete reversal from the period between 1997 and 2008 when the “moderate” committee of the Gurdwara was considered unassailable, racking up huge victories in elections.
In 2008, Panthic Gursikhs decided to make one more effort to unseat the “moderate” committee which had never organized an amrit sanchaar at the Gurdwara and which openly and proudly defied Akal Takht Maryada on the issue of tables and chairs in the langar hall.
Since then, the Sikh Youth slate has racked up 3 election victories (although the first one was invalidated by the courts for technical reasons), with each successive victory proving bigger than the last.
Bhai Rajinder Singh Dhaliwal is the incoming president of the Gurdwara Sahib and he along with his committee have pledged to carry on the work started by the current committee, which has placed a special emphasis on making the Gurdwara Sahib more accommodating towards youth.

+1 regarding the 'moderate' label and its usage. I found it a strange turn of phrase to describe the blasphemers whilst those hoping to uphold Sikh tenets are described otherwise. Maybe they use the English language differently in Canada? :biggrin2:

Use the word Communits for them going forward. We should drop the moderates label ourselves like 'Riots' was dropped for the Genocide of Sikhs.

I think the Canadian media would wake up also if they new the moderates were really Communists that officially are against the Capitalist West
