Kuljinder Sidhu Wants To Make A Movie On Blue Star

A film focusing on Operation Blue Star cannot be dealt with the light touch of a Panjabi crowd-pleaser, whether Panjabi audiences are receptive to these style of movies or not.

Bluestar is the single most tragic event in modern Sikh history. To shoe-horn in "gaane" and formulaic Panjabi-movie tropes to keep audiences interested would denigrate the aforementioned events of that time.

I can't agree more. This needs to be a cinematic documentary if anything.

There's a documentary film called 'Shoah' from 1985 which consisted survivors of the Holocaust being interviewed along with footage from the time. It's gone down as one of the best films ever, period. It was the basis for Spielberg's Schindler's List (not for the story but overall). That's the kind of deftness of touch and respect the events of Bluestar deserve. Tackling the matter with broad brush strokes will lessen with Bluestar, IMO, in the eyes of the world.

I need to watch this.

Someone should also forward this movie to Kuljinder Sidhu. Thanks for pointing this out!

He should make a movie based on the SARAGARHI. It's an amazing story that's also important to Sikh culture, and has never been done.

I really enjoyed Sadda Haq, it managed to keep things musical without going full on Bollywood cheesy with ridiculous dance routines. The subject matter was treated with utmost respect, and he covered the important topics (like what motivated Rajoana and Dilawar Singh) without being too gruesome to watch. All in all, the kind of important film Bollywood can't seem to do.

What Kuljinder achieved as a brand new director with such a low budget (1.5 million crore, less than £200,000) was very impressive, but he needs to learn and improve as an action director. Saragarhi would be the perfect film for that. It's got plenty of action, but it's also a small scale human story.

I just don't think he is ready to make something as explosive as a film about Operation Blue Star, he needs more experience.

He made SADDA HAQ pretty interactive. He should go interactive with this concept as well. We can all advice him to the do's and don'ts as a majority of us will be the targeted audience.

How was Sadda Haq "interactive" ?

I think you mean 'target' audience rather than 'targeted' audience. Targeted audience means after watching it in the theatre we will be targetted by death squads.

Anyway if we're his target audience than he'd be preaching to the already converted. Thus even £10,000 would be money wasted. What we need is for him to make the type of movie that can be entered into international film festivals and are appreciated by the influential educated elite...i.e the people in powerful positions in things such as media etc. Studies have shown such people overwhelmingly appreciate movies such as those that come out of Iran which cost far less than the £200,000 Kuljinder Singh spent on Sadda Haq. The melodramatic bad over-acting and cheesy dialogue of Sadda Haq is about as opposite of the quality end as you can get.

Judging by his first movie, Kuljinder Singh is wanting to run before he can walk. We all appreciate the good thing he did but he's clearly not up to the job of making a mega expensive large scale war movie type film of quality. Thats why I'm saying he'd do a far better job by concentrating on dialogue, acting and editing to tell the story on a low budget.

If the Sikh public are crying out for a '300' type mega movie to tell the story then perhaps we should make efforts to bring the director Tarsem Singh back into the Sikh fold.

As an established name he was given a mega budget by Hollywood studios to make the film 'Immortals' in the same vein as '300'. Clearly, in naming his film 'Immortals' he was reminded of his Sikh roots (the Akalis).

Also another veerjee suggested to fund or give sewa for sikhlighar sikhs or other important projects. I simply have to disagree with that. We should have a system like a democratic country and budget (Sewa funds) should be allotted to categories (like media, school, hospital, prachar etc..) We simply cannot say or justify that money/sewa spent on media is waste. Everything is connected to each other. With media help, people become aware of situations and when they do then they research and further down the road they DONATE. Awareness via media is more important than simply giving out cash to gareeb people.

No one talked of giving cash to gareeb people, we are talking of education here, veer. The money spent on media is not waste but the 100 crore for the movie NO DOUBT is because you can make the movie at 30 crores.

A movie on Bhai Lachman Singh Babbar would be amazing - perfect movie type material, a Muslim Police informer joins militants and ends up becoming one of them after seeing their just fight.
