Ummh, I think I stated in the first page of this post, he can't accuse you of being racist as Singh is not a race. Please refer back to my post. Yes Jagsaw Singh is correct in UK only Sikh and Jews are a race /religion, but my lawyer friends will know just Singh surname does not imply you are a Sikh. Possibly it can be assumed someone with Singh as surname is Sikh, but not all Singh are Sikh, but all Sikh are Singh. Hindus used Singh many centuries prior to GuruSahibhan.

Guys trying to look cleaver by answering questions with advanced google searches spending umpteen hours, it's quite clear some posters have no clue what they are on about, I can pm for example, no need to spoil the forum.

Nah veer ji , knew contract law from own life experience and been through unfair dismissal procedure with Gursikh Bhenji fired from Carphone Warehouse by new muslim management , they took over the franchise and cleared all non-muslims from the building. the race discrmination act from 1960 has had a few amendments and precedents have been set by apne singh taking cases to court ...if I mention the laws surely that will help people research for them selves if they get a tough situation too.

The Guy can accuse but I pointed out can't make a case of it any way, but that doesn't protect Bhai Sahib if he gets punished by his bosses. thus equality act 2010 comes in handy and the number of local CAB and solictor

JagsawSingh does have a valid point it shouldn't have been mentioned... Its hard not to when you see the name singh and the guys mouth is filthily as a gutter esp towards another singh.

Jkvlondon veer does have some good points too! I think it would be more of a Jagsawsingh type of view as the OP manger is very traditional and old school... he was kicking off why we should be allowed non uniform days for eid etc... lol hes not so very multicultura

its a major mobile brand where the contact centre is outsourced by another company ,they scam "their customers" through various methods... You can have a manufacturing faulted device , have it repaired 6 times and they will not replace it but only offer another lousy repair... , most of the management is made up people who have licked their mangers asses to get any progression.

I'll just stick to my guns that it wasn't meant in a derogatory way. Its shocking to hear such language from somebody with the name Singh. It was just a comment to say you are better than this. If its such a big issue we shouldn't have to say our real names on the telephones as MANY times people say racial things such as "Oh where are you based , thats a funny english name , you sikh b******* etc.... If your not happy with this then chalo , maaf karna it wont happen again. Regarding the good luck statement was genuine words of good luck.

Leave it in maharajs hands

Dharam wise reminding a brother his duty is the right thing to do.

we should all be worrying about the bigger things in life.. our time is running out.

Good Luck 'Mr John Smith' ...if manager is old school maybe he will understand not wanting to deal with rudeness but please send in apology to HR to mitigate escalation of event internal to the company. Waheguru kirpa karen it all blows over ...maybe the 'Christmas spirit' will enter in ... :happy2:

to the OP.

The only genuine advice is by Jagsaw singh ji.

(I am also surprised at the lack of intelligence by some sikhs on here who can't seem to grasp fundamental principles of general law)

The fact that you bought race and prejudice into the equation is where I'm afraid you will be at fault.

If you praise or favor someone or one of your own... even then it is considered prejudice and discrimination.

You said along the lines ''I don't expect that language from a singh''.... will also be taken to mean that you would expect it and take it from others but not from him because of his name...religion..race...-( in simple terms you are telling him to behave himself because of his faith or race)

.....this implies that you discriminated in your sentence and response regardless of whether you treated him unfairly or not from your heart.

Imagine you were working as some promoter in a department store and had to give out 50 dollar coupons at random every 30 minutes to whoever you chose.

Then for some reason you thought about being fair and deliberately choosing people from some race or community because you personally felt they deserved it.

....AGAIN,, this would be unfair discrimination because the ones not chosen would have a right to complain on those grounds if they were to know your tactics !

.....So you see, even if we think we are doing good and being helpful,, we can also be prejudice and discriminative without harmful intentions.

Absolutely luckysiingh99. Like you, I have been pretty astounded by the general lack of understanding of very simple matters of Law , being exhibited here. It actually really worries me because already the other south Asian groups have a stereotype of our community as being very thick, so we should be doing everything to dsipel that myth by making ourselves so knowledgable, so well-read.

    • the whole 'your husband/wife is chosen for you'/sanjog thing is real, it's just that a lot of people end up marrying the wrong person. they did not end up with the person that was meant for them. my friend, you should marry someone who you feel a connection with and love. there are millions of sikh girls, i'm sure you can find someone who aligns with your sensibilities and who you can truthfully say that you love. sikhi does not say anything against love marriages. you can also be in a loveless arranged marriage which is a safe option b/c both families are more inclined to keep the union intact. i was one of those people who was like meh, i guess i'll just get arranged to some sikh. well i finally started dating for the first time this year and i'm getting married to someone that i love and cannot even imagine leaving. i think it's better to have lost & lost than never loved at all. unfortunately, a lot of people confuse love w/ looks & lust. a lot of men go for the fittest girl they can find and think they won the jackpot or something. in reality, your partner should be like an extremely loved best friend. there's a reason why it's a fact that the most stable and long-lasting relationships started as friendships.  i also think a lot of women are petty and divorce over small reasons, but there's other terrible things like high cheating rates as well. that's why the divorce rate in the west is high. be careful out there.
    • andrew tate praises sikhi too & likes sikhs. his brother also donated to sikh families iirc. they just like any "alpha" religion and tbh islam is the most "alpha" in their eyes. islam is very good at promoting that image. but imo a real alpha man doesn't command respect by beating up his wive(s) or forcing them to wear a burqa. a real man will have his woman listen to him w/o raising a hand or his voice, and command respect by being respectful. he leads by example and integrity. that's true masculinity. you get the idea. + yes, it's definitely true that islam is growing rapidly and making massive inroads. strength in numbers + belief will do that. but rlly it's just because of the birth rate. a lot of them are muslim b/c it's their "identity" just like how a lot of young sikhs will say they're "culturally sikh" or whatever. there just aren't billions of sikhs who lambast their identity everywhere and have strict and linear rules like in islam. besides, the reality is that islam and its followers are some of the most morally bankrupt. you can see all the weird trans rules in iran, bacche baazi in afghanistan, visiting brothels, watching p*rn, p*dophilia what goes on behind the scenes in countries like uae & qatar, etc, and come to your conclusions. you can google all the stats yourself and see which countries do the most of these ^.
    • stop associating with hinduism, that's the absolutely worst thing you can do as a sikh. not sure if you noticed but the entire world looks down upon and spits at india & hindus, literally no one respects them and considers them weak and cowardly. literally 1+ billion of them but not perceived as a strong religion commandeering respect.
    • you wrote a whole lot but told us nothing. what exactly did you do wrong to make you feel this way?
