Hi all,

Was just wondering what peoples views were on Shere Punjab and whether they did Sikhi any good? Also, do you think that another such group will surface in the future? Would it be something that appeals to Sikhs in todays society?

Im no expert on Shere Punjab but for those who dont know, this is a group that formed in Birmingham in response to muslims targeting sikh girls. There moto is to serve and protect the vulnerable ..

Would be good to hear all your opinions

Thanks

I don't think they were too concerned with representing the Sikh faith, and I think they'd be the first to admit it. It was more of a cultural thing whereby their activities happened to centre around people of a Sikh background.

I dunno, maybe I'm a bit paranoid, but this topic feels like it's been started by someone who works for a professional outfit, like the BBC or a newspaper of that sort, in order to gauge Sikhs' opinions and attitudes to certain issues in light of the recent Anand Karaj discussions that have made headlines. I could be wrong :)

They had noble aims and you could argue their activities were essential on a social / street level (for as we know, life is not perfect), but looking to groups such as Shere Punjab for spiritual guidance is not the best way to go about it IMO. Equally, I'm wary of the "official" groups, sects, or Jathas that are numerous in this modern age - for good reason - so I'm probably not the best person to ask.

I made my spiritual journey - and continue to do so - independently. There's enough resources without any catches or vested interests to allow you to do the same. Of course, if you're the kind of person who requires the company of others, the social aspect of it all, or constant affirmation of like minded people to stay on the path, then my way is perhaps not best suited for you.

Very well said. Too many people wrongly take 'Sadh Sangat' to mean the congregation that gathers within a Gurdwara, which can easily be made up of nindaks (and is more often than not).

It's just the way things turn out for some of us. But sitting amongst the sangat when listening to Gurbani or vichaar is essential IMO. It's the communal sense of spiritual togetherness that Gurbani recommends if I'm not mistaken. However, I don't take it any further than that.

I have recently come away from a bad crowd where I would drink and do drugs etc so it isnt that easy for me because I was deep into that path. I have now parted from them ways and I agree, I dont think your way would suit me best simply because of how I used to be. Never the less I hope to get there one day :) Thanks for your input

In that case be mindful not to exchange one type of bad crowd for another, for whilst that kind of religiously social interaction - especially if you're of an impressionable age - may seem like a world away from your alcohol consuming friends, there's usually other vices that the so-called pious are riddled with beneath the surface, and before you know it you've been dragged into that world without even realising it, as Balkaar Singh points out.

    • 2) They were physically retarded... Come to think of it. Their facial features did resemble yours so they must have been some fellow inbred retarded relatives of yours. So ask your family, Find out who kera kera from your family got a ktapa from a Singh six years back.    I don't need to lie nor do I need to lie to try impress a knob like you.  I'm quite happy tbh, that's why you should never ever start trouble with someone, you never know what will happen. There are many factors on how to to fight against multiple people....how to take on multiple at once. I'll give you one example which helped me that day ,an obstacle in the way so they have to be forced to engage where it will be weak for them to strike from and you have the advantage.  they will have to go around the obstacle to engage you by that time...you have the advantage and they played right into your trap ie Engaging from the sides. Having an obstacle right between you and your opponents..so they have to go around if they want to come within range to strike you.  . Strategy. Your mindset. Intelligence..jeeeet..something your mind will never be able to comprehend. Moreover understanding striking range...once someone comes within range you don't wait for them to strike first....whoever comes into that range will be put to the floor in an instant .  Lastly  There was talk of such a science of archery and stick fighting only a few years ago in the Punjab that listening of it the English-educated young men will consider it astonishing. In sincerity I believe present day young men might just consider these skills and Shastar Vidiya most likely impossible, because they have not even seen those bows nevermind stringing them. Like this, many sciences and skills after attaining their heights have declined. Before 1857 many quivers full of arrows, matchlocks, flintlock guns, swords, lances, spears, Sang, Katar, Pesh Kabz, pistols, shields etc., weapons, armour and many types of chainmail was found house to house, and all the people in their homes learned and taught Shastar Vidiya and became complete soldiers. Now no one even speaks of these skills the sons of brave warriors are becoming engrossed in making money, even to us who have employed Shastar Vidiya, it is becoming a dream. In another fifty years or so, this Vidiya would have dried up and people will say it (past skills) were but, all lies' Akaal
    • 🤣🤣🤣😂Carry on. I said my piece. If you don't want to believe the vidiya works  That's Upto you. Like I said. Shastar Vidiya has saved my life many many times. From facing a knife attack and getting sliced by it however the guy received a broken face. Moreover from getting a broken bottle attempted to be put into my body by a prick. I survived without a scratch also that day but him? He's got a massive scar on his face to remember me every time he looks in the mirror 😂 Re 8 people : First guy went for headbutt and he got punched right in his face them His degenerate friends came running out to help him 😂😂😂😂 good times.   "I'm not arguing Paaji i respect you I just want to learn and share my views ji sorry If i offended anybody :)"      Nice one
    • Lies.  Listen carefully: if 8 men attacked you and failed then one of three things happened: 1) They weren't trying to hurt you - They probably wanted to intimidate you but not get charged for something serious like GBH or murder 2) They were physically retarded. The only way you could actually beat 8 people unarmed like you said is if they were seriously disadvantaged even 8-1 number advantage. Unless these boys were severely disabled or like 5 years old each there's no way they were tried to hurt you and failed 3) They beat you so hard that you're hallucinating right now. As in they gave you brain damage from the katappa and you genuinely believe that you beat them. tldr: If these "8 people" were able-bodied adult men and were actually trying to hurt you, there is no way in hell you made it out unscathed, let alone actually beat them. You're either lying/seriously deluded or these mans were blue badge holders.
