"Police on Tuesday evening announced the arrest of two Sikh brothers, allegedly having links with foreign radicals, for the October 12 desecration of Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari village in Faridkot district the first case of sacrilege that sparked protests across Punjab.

Prime accused Rupinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh had been taken into custody five days ago, after their phone calls with their US, Australia and Dubai-based handlers were initially intercepted by cops, top government sources told HT.

Rupinder, who hails from Panjgrain village in Faridkot district, was admitted to Apollo hospital in Ludhiana after he was injured in the Kotkapura clash last week. During his hospitalisation also, the accused was receiving calls from his handlers, with whom they were discussing the delivery of cash, sharing details of bank account etc, police sources said.

Meanwhile, in a hurriedly convened press conference, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said the Punjab government would unearth all conspiracies behind the desecration at Bargari village that had led to widespread emotional outbursts across the state.

Flanked by a battery of senior Akali leaders such as Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Sikander Singh Maluka and Virsa Singh Valtoha, the deputy CM said the state government would arrest all culprits behind the incidents of sacrilege.

This conspiracy was conceived by rogue elements. It was an attack on the Sikh community. But we are committed to expose such elements and punish them. We will not let these elements succeed in their designs, a visibly emotional Sukhbir said.

Additional director general of police (crime) IPS Sahota, who is also heading a special investigation team (SIT) set up to probe incidents of sacrilege, said of the seven cases, police had cracked five.

Following a tip-off that the accused brothers were missing, their cell phones were placed under surveillance.

Rupinder and his brother had been talking to their handlers abroad and discussing the payment promised to them for their act of sacrilege, police said.

The ADGP claimed that foreign links of the accused had been established during the initial investigation. The police said they had unearthed clear and concrete evidence of foreign funding behind heinous cases of sacrilege and that anti-national elements were using some greedy persons to lure them to carry out designs of disturbing peace and communal harmony in the state.

The incidents at Kohrian (Sangrur), Nijjarpura (Amritsar), Ghawaddi (Ludhiana) and Baath (Tarn Taran) were of local origin, police said.

Replying to a query, police denied any link between the Bargari incident and the controversy over pardon to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh by the Sikh clergy.

The police also shared audio clips of the telephonic conversation between Rupinder and his foreign handler and between Rupinder (9217660002) and Jaswinder, who was using his relative Gurbachan Singhs number (9872214055). Rupinder talked to his brother on October 16 at 10:45am and to his handler in Australia on October 15 at 10:37am."

The Akalis have not forgotten the sheer humiliation they recieved when they came to North America recently. Now they are taking their revenge by saying NRI Sikhs must be behind this.

interesting they picked this guy Rupinder Singh ...his treatment is being handled by Khalsa Aid , next they'll be labelling Ravi as a part of the conspiracy , they are so full of $h1t. Nobody has heard him speak so hearsay which what this 'evidence ' is what is being peddled . If they produce the rest of the saroop we as a kaum will have proof positive that Akalis are fully in on the beadbhi with RSS, RAW

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
