why? don't you think the schoolkids deserve playing fields ? A thing they didn't have at the last site ...besides it was no longer being used as a sportsground so this is fortunate that they are going to maintain the original fields' functions for the community's kids and neighbours. Besides KOG are full of it they opposed the current site because of traffic , hello they are your kids and neighbours kids travelling there too...maybe they need to look under their own collar - bunch of NIMBYs

This is really great news. Apart from the Guru Nanak High School in Hayes there is no other Sikh high school in West London. The new committee at Sri Guru Singh Sabha had applied for permission for setting up a Sikh high school but from the last I heard this had been refused as the local council said there was already provision in the area. By provision they meant the three high schools in Southall which are now packed full of kids of asylum seekers and where the educational achievements are failing. The Sikhs badly need a high school so the the kids studying at Khalsa Primary in Norwood Green as well as the ones at Nishkam in Brentford can continue their further studies in a Sikh ethos school.

honestly he should look at the positive where's his chardi kala? plus the extra walking will do the students and parents good ...we walk to all ours

Man I know the area well and I'll share a few thoughts.

Firstly, Osterley ain't what it used to be. When we first moved to these parts it was really leafy and had more of a village atmosphere. The Prime Minster of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto had her London house just round the corner and spent many months each year here. Everyone else was either doctors or stockbrokers and everyone valued the peace and tranquility. Over the last 15 years or so, since it became predominately desi, every household has at least 4 cars.....traffic and parking is a nightmare....every lawned front garden has been paved....and it is in no way still a 'green area' that needs protecting. Those days have long gone. Still mega expensive (houses start at £1,250,000) and upwards but far from still a village green locality. So, no excuse to stop the building of the Sikh school from that point of view.

On the other hand, the school will have as one of it's entrances Wood Lane, and Wood Lane is arguably one of the narrowest roads in west London. It was built for a single horse to pass through....so narrow even a bicycle would struggle to pass another bicycle passing in the opposite direction. So, from that point of view, a nightmare place to have a Sikh school where the typical parents insist on driving their children to school rather than letting them get the bus like normal children.

Question is though, will I put my kids there ?

That depends. Depends firstly on the standard of teaching and secondly on the fact that I don't want my kids to be speaking in the standard 'asian born in the UK' dialect of second-rate english. I swear, these days, I meet some kids at my kids' gurbani classes and I can't tell who was born here in the UK and who arrived from India or anywhere else recently. The ones born here have such a poor grasp of pronounciation and use of English words it is frightening. Once this school is up and running I will arrange an interview with the school and see if they are good enough for my kids. I will want to know if they are going to employ teachers that will teach our kids to talk properly.......innit.
