Nopes, the land-owning and moneyed sikhs or Jatts as you would call them are too busy in their jatt-pride and wondering where they fit in between sikh pride and punjabi pride or rather jatt-pride .

They would rather spend those money in launching themselves as a singer or waste it on drugs or try moving to kanneda or amreeka or ashtrelia . Also most of these guys are monneh, so they couldn't give a rat a** about sikhi, except selectively boasting about sikh soorme with whom they bear no semblance either in appearance or lifestyle or discipline !

The other punjab lives in dire poverty , is affected by uranium-infected waters which is giving them cancer like never seen before , the drug-addicts and god knows what not .

Jatts aren't the only land owning and moneyed Sikhs in the Punjab?

Are they giving back?

TBH apart from monthly garahis to gurudwara , most of which we try to get RoI on by excessive eating at langar,

I doubt most of us give daswand

Yes, what on earth is this craze about launching a singing career? I'm assuming these guys have managed to talk their fathers into financing a move into showbusiness? Idiots. Why not use that cash to improve employment prospects by studying a valuable subject that will lead to a prosperous career? Don't get me wrong, i appreciate the draw of being creative, but it's like every other Sikh guy in Punjab wants to release an album, so it becomes less about beavering away until they're in a position to share their unique talent with the world through music, and becomes more a cynical grab for fame and fortune.

I've heard a few of these people's tunes now, they are about as generic as you can possibly get. Whatever this endeavour is, is certainly isn't one about creativity.

And get this, they'll spend £20,000 on a video and studio time.

It's obviously another manifestation of pendu 'status'.

Perhaps you're not aware maybe that Indians have a sheep mentality .

In India, talent is whatever fetches you money. I understand this is quite different from western world attitudes.

If you ever look at businesses in india, you will see one sector usually dominated by one community.

Shetty's into hotel business. its so common it has become a cliched joke.

Marwaris into jewellery .

Gujaratis are thought of as businesses

South indians are usually top brass of corporates.

Punjabis are into trucking (my own dad). Some of them end up having big logistic companies. Another common profession our kaum has is driveri of taxi . or army.

I don't see that many white collar job sikhs . Except a few notable ones . Like Ajay Banga , CEO of mastercard. And few others.

We're not that great into academics as a community. Punjabi , esp Sikh men are known to be physically sturdy but not very brainy when it comes to finer sciences like Mathematics, Physics, etc .

Those who do study this sciences, they tend to excel . I don't want to say our kaum is weak when it comes to brains for academics, but we're not known to excel in these sciences.

TBH, the craze for being a singer is because singing , acting and other media professions enable a person to get quickly what modern materialistic society defines as "sukh" : Money, Fame, Women.

And being a singer , esp the kind of crrrap , raunchy ones that punjabi community generates in loads, we end up with YoYo , Badshah , Sukhwinder and the likes who get quick ticket to money , fame and women .

Now you know why whole of punjab and Jatta de mundey wanna go that line lol

Punjabi men are 3D learners, they can solve problems on their feet that no Gujerati or South Indian can do.

There are a lot of people in the West that want to rich and famous quickly as well. Look at the Instagram models or the you tube stars.

All those talent shows and reality shows in India are copied from the models on the west.

We slag our own people off too much. Granted there are a lot of faults in our people but there are positives too.

Talk about rose tinted glasses.

As per usual you are glass half empty.

You focus on the negative.

There are positive aspects too. It is better have an all round perspective.

I know there are positives, but hell, your type of attitude (which is unfortunately the norm in the community) is what essentially guarantees the negatives are only going to grow and become more entrenched.

Remember we had decades of smug, self-congratulatory behaviour amongst our fudhoos in the UK (bhangra partying, showing off with the Mercedes and ostentatious weddings), whilst under our very noses God knows how many thousands of apneean were getting viciously sexually abused. Does that not register in your head? How positive are your positives when we've not even been able to protect our own daughters as a community?

We've already been made complete clowns off (that includes by the establishment here), so let us please not make the same mistakes again and again by ignoring threats like an ostrich, and seeking some feeling of relief in pyrrhic victories. We've had enough of that.

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
