Personally the translation of Dasam Bani quoted above (which is from Chritropakhyan) is not as accurate as patshahi10's:

sudh jab te ham dhari, bacan gur dae hamare,

put ihe pran tone praan jab lag ghat thare,

nij nari ke sath neh tum nit bodhaio

par nari ki sej bhul supne hu na jayo

Ever since I came of age, the Guru instructed me thus:

Son, take an oath and keep it as long as there is life in you,

Love thy legal wife ever and ever so much that

Not even in a dream should you share the bed of other woman.

Given the context it is in Chritropakhyan, which does deal with physical intimate relationships, it is advisable to keep the above verse also in mind.  Guru Sahib is advising that your relationship with your spouse should be so strong that the thought of another does not enter your mind and you can focus on your Sikhi without having your mind wander to another.

The above translator does not do an accurate translation of the line in question.

nij nari ke sath neh tum nit bodhaio

Love thy legal wife ever and ever so much that

The wrong context is being given here by saying it's in Sri Charitorpakhyan, so it's obviously talking about the physical aspect of the husband and wife relationship.  Sri Charitorpakhyan actually starts off by explaining to a young adult male not to indulge in kaam, which has got him in trouble by having a sexual relationship with his father's young wife.  Sri Charitorpakhyan is full of advise of how not to indulge in kaam from the beginnning to the end.  Also the above translator doesn't take into account that this is Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib ji talking to the next Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib ji.  The Guru who is above worldly play (husband and wife physical relationships) will not tell the future Guru to increase the worldly play in his life.  Also the Guru lives by the advise given to a Sikh of the Guru.  If we look at the life of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib ji, he spent 26 years meditating on Akal Purakh Sahib in a cellar type room.  How can such a great Guru give such lowly advise, as to increase the worldly play between husband and wife.  Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib ji was soaked in the love of Akal Purakh.  His mind body and soul were completely colored in the love of Akal Purakh.  There was no thought of any other love in his mind.

Also the translator leaves out to translate one of the words.  He leaves out "sath" which means companionship.

nij nari ke sath neh tum nit bodhaio

With your woman (wife) always increase companionship and love.

Also look at Raag Soohee (Suhi) in Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji.  Those who know the meaning of Soohee know where I am about to take this conversation in the next words and are probably laughing at how bad of contextualization the quoted posters has given.  Soohee literally means deeply colored love of a  newly wedded bride toward the husband.  This is the literal meaning.  But when we read Raag Soohee, Guru Sahib has translated this worldly play (love of a bride toward the husband) into the love a Sikh must have to meet his beloved husband Lord.  If we were to contextualize Raag Soohee in the above quoted posters way, we would be in big trouble.

A good rule always to keep in mind when reading Gurbani is to remember Guru Sahib is always telling us to increase our love for Akal Purakh and to follow his command more closely in every breath.

If you are unmarried then you should stop commenting on these topics because before marriage you tend tolook at it as something bad. This is why people have these stupid problems when they get married.

Its because you distance a physical relationship so much in your brains that you think of the very act with which you came into being as evil. It is God created and if it was just for procreation it would be written by Guruji in the SGGS with a strict number I.e. only 5 times if you want  3 kids.

Use your common sense for once and stop using gurbani to say that the act is forbidden and all such nonsense and confusing already confused married people.

What is nonsensical, confusing and really strange but, more importantly, extremely disrespectful is the practices and beliefs that you and other 'Sikhs' engage in that compares the physical pleasure of sex with the mental and spiritual state of anand as the same. Who are you or anyone else to make that judgement? Where does Gurbani say to chant the name while doing the deed? Did you find those tuks or do they not exist?

If anand was easy to obtain then there would be no need for simran, paath, kirtan etc. as the whole world would be Sikhs with the porn industry being the most devout of all.

Sounds like you are struggling with this but so is everyone else. Fortunately, we have Gurbani to help and guide us.

perhaps if you cut out all religious thoughts, then this video would make some sense.

Dear sadh sangat jeo. my husband and i have been married for 4 years and have 3 beautiful children. we are both gursikhs and absorb into gurbani simran sewa as much as we can. i personally dont always get to do my nitnem as our children are so young but i try to repeat as much bani during the day as possible. anyway i wanted to ask. my husband and i have a very active sex life EDITED.. we havent done a kuret have we? we are a very simple down to earth humble family and just dont want to go off the wrong path. we love each other very much and love sikhi very much. we just humbly ask the sadh sangat to direct us. if we have comitted a kuret we will most definately go pesh at the next opportunity. if it is not a kuret is it ok to enjoy such 2 actions as husband and wife?

humbly with folded hands

If you have the inclination or something makes you feel wrong about your excessive romping, then you should listen to that guilt inside.

Your oute body- visible one is the one expressing your so-called version of love.  This and dirty acts of list are not acts of intimate love. If it were intimate love on any occasion, then you would feel it and you would feel more pure-divine love.   You have no regard for the gupt dehi inside you. But only for the temporary physical dehi. ALL the 5 chor are in full form of your sexual desires,.......quite honestly, you have lost it and may as well be rabbits instead of gurmukhs.

SHAME ON YOU and YOUR husband with your perverted priorities.  There is NO WAY your spiritual energies will increase if you carry on romping and abusing each others physical bodies.

The pankti you are referring to is a Shabad that Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji ouchaar to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. They say to Maharaj "Son, (increase) love/care for your wife daily but don't go to another woman's bed in your dreams".  your spouse, can have effects on the bigger picture.

Vaheguru Ji.

Someone enlighten me, because I've always who the reference is made to with 'guru' . Is OT Guru Tegh Bahadur ji telling his 9 year old Gobind Rai????

I just find it strange that you would tell 9 yr old this unless they were about to get married.  BTW did Gurus marry at young ages??

Guru Ji's can think at a totally different level to human beings. Guru Har Krishan Ji was the Guru Ji at 5 years old - chosen over his brother - Ram rai. So age does not matter here - it is the message.

I said if you edit out all religious thoughts. I clearly said it was not linked to spirituality or liberation.

Do you still consider yourself on the path of Sikhi?

    • I saw the video on TikTok I think. It was at Wembley Stadium and I was unable to bookmark/favourite it because Tiktok decided to refresh. It was the "mainstream" Chaupai Sahib you will hear at a Singh Sabha gurdwaras, usually so-called Ramgarhia gurdwaras and also for the past 100 year or so in Harimandir Sahib under the current committee system.  In other words, the sikhs who give up or quit at Lord of the Almighty Sword, provides a shield for my protection. With Your Hands you have saved me. You bestow help on me at all places and rescue me from pain and the designs of my demons.401. Kharag kait mai sarann tihaaree. Aap haath dai leho ubaaree. Sarab thor mo hoho sahaaee. Dustt dokh té leho bachaaee. (25) O The Lord of Sword, I seek Your protection. With Your Hands you have guarded me. At All Times be my Support. Save me from wickedness and pain. (25).
    • Bro, can you post from what line to what line they did paath of?
    • A decade later and I can show you all what the problem is. Both Khalsa Primary School and students from Pioneer Secondary Academy were invited for Vaisakhi celebrations, and they done a Chaupai Sahib paat. The problem is, they performed the politics ridden anti-dasam Bhasauria mutilated cut version of Benti Chaupai which is disrespectful to traditional puraatan samrpadaiye and mahapurakh. If bani politics is going to be used on children to skip lines from Dasam Pita ji dhan dhan Guru Gobind Singh ji's Benti Chaupai Sahib, that certain groups think it is ok to do, then @serious guptwas right to raise concerns a decade ago! IN 2024, when sangat is much more knowledgable about dasam bani and katha, when we have so many resources - then if we are not allowing our children to learn bani shud and let them choose their groups to follow later, then this raises RED FLAGS IN 2024!!!! AKAAAAL!
