try cracking a sikh history book , in the days when non -muslim people were punished for wearing a turban, keeping a beard, riding a horse, bearing arms and practising self-defence via martial arts  by the authorities  OUR GURU SAHIBAN told us we are to do that all and live courageously , in other words forget about worldly people's views , that we only have ONE authority above us Akal Purakh . Throughout history all non-sikhs have labelled us as rebels ... so YES that is our primary Identity as we have chosen to follow the Guru not the People.

its different now.wearing a turban isnt rebellious, and ppl can paint themselves yellow and wear mad things, to no criticism, everywhere.

Wearing a turban in birmingham city centre has just become a slight nuance.

Only in House of P, or on the TV on mainstream progs, and in the sports industry, will a turban really mean something. Otherwise its lost meaning .... IN THE DISTANCE IS THAT FIGURE WITH SOMETHING BLACK ON HIS HEAD, A SINGH? NO, its woman in a hijab.....

We are meant to be sant and siphai, we are saints and soldiers. The reason why we need kirpan is so we can protect others, and dastar to look different to everyone else so people in need see us and come to us. For us, this our uniform. Our uniform is the Guru's Saroop.

ppl wear a lot of things these days, and a turban, in a fast crowd, is like seeing a durag or something.

What uve said doesnt make sense, what about if more people became sikh, you wouldn't need a kirpan, if all sikhs were all non-violent?

Distinct means to be niara (unique) but when we reach a certain level of bhagti, we don't care about blending in, because the path of Sikhi is already so unique and beautiful that we only care about our souls and what will happen after we die etc. There is no point following others because we live in Kalyug, it is very easy to be influenced by wrongdoings.

speak for yourself.

HOW DO YOU MENA FOLLOWING OTHERS, are you saying, you live in a cave. More than likely, you sitting on this forum, youtube in the background, eating food, like 3 billion other people too. well done!

Clicked on the video with some hope . Was turned off in the first 10 seconds when he started dancing and grooving and other such typical punjabi nonsense !!

then he dances on the stage as well. Why can't you convey your point in a stern yet friendly way to the crowd. Agreed indians tend to look at sardars as clownish figures, but the west doesn't have to ! and they don't !

I am beginning to suspect all the ridicule we face is to an extent a creation of our own making ! and this guy is proving it .

grow up, you are so bland in outlook  I find it hard to believe that you are  even sikh on the inside , especially in the other thread were you literally said to the concerned Mother let your daughter turn away from sikhi ... It's unhelpful and anti-sikh attitudes like this that stop parents and people from trying to improve their relationships with their Kids . It is still a whole mindset and ethics based in Guru ji's commands and it is even more rebellious now  as being of a faith is considered to be anti-mainstream  as the mainstream is being steered to destruction of all social cohesion, ethics, morality, and faith in Akal Purakh . the end being to serve Maya  and its minions .

Sikhi is the anti-establishment model now ..

The thing is, why do you not want to wear a Dastar? And the other thing is that the Dastar is there to protect our hair. And our hair is very significant, Maharaj says that when we are at such an avasta each hair on our body starts to meditate on Waheguru ji. And Sikhi is trying to get rid of your haumai and accepts Waheguru ji's hukam. Now with the info above - probably made mistakes so sorry - if you are truly a Sikh you would accept your hair as a gift from Waheguru ji and to respect it and keep it nice, and tidy and love it and you would wear a Dastar so your hair is not exposed and able to be damaged. Also your Dastar is showing respect towards Guru and Waheguru ji since you are following their instructions and also protecting your Dasam Duaar.

And it is totally not different now. Nowadays people are going away from being close to Waheguru ji and towards Maya. With your Dastar on, you are basically doing parchar and people will ask you why do you wear a Dastar and in response you can teach them about naam and Waheguru ji.

Let's not ask questions and right now you may not agree with some stuff in Sikhi so let's do Ardas to Maharaj to give us understanding since their Mat (intellect) is higher than us and they would only want the best for us.

why are you being obtuse ?...we are niara when we centre ourselves on Gurbani and Gurmat and action our Guru ji's commands if you have problems accepting that , that is between you and Guru ji .  Our appearence is dictated by our Guru ji and Akal Purakh , we are meant to live in the Will/Command of Akal Purakh that means being sabat soorat and the dastar/dupatta covers our hair and keeps it clean . The Dastar is honour/regalia/stamp of approval/sign of allegiance  all-in-one to lose it is to be a SLAVE/Punished/Dishonoured...

Following others - specifically is referring to MANMUKHs, Lost people
