I don't think transgenderism was popular during Porus time, it likely came from non-punjabi influence.

I'd guess islamic i.e. arab/afghan influence? 

You know what, you can't even tell? It may have come from 'scythian culture' (if any of that shyte is true?). There is a lot of covert gayness in jut culture. They don't even try and hide it (apart from to their wives and daughters and 'the community' to show some facade of respectability).

Typically the hijra life was part of Punjab culture but it had it's place associated with mirasi culture with newly wed couples and new borns.

But it was a not a mainstream thing.

What is taking place in the west , there is an attempt to shift this into the mainstream.
