Came across this, thought I'd share with the sangat. The following letter of Bhai Mani Singh to Mata Sundar Kaur Ji (wife of Guru Gobind Singh Ji) clearly clarifies this subject that proves without any doubt that all the compiled `Banis` of the "Dasam Guru Granth` are the genuine `Banis` of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, and not of his poets. The original letter is given here with Punjabi and English translation. The Punjabi clear version of the above original letter. Bhai Mani Singh,a playmate, classmate and devoted disciple of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji , and a top -ranking scholar of his time. He survived the Guru by many years and was martyred at Lahore. This is an histor…

I was reading this article on the Sikh Research and Eduction Center website, it states that Hemkunt is a description of life in the womb. Similar passages can also be found in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee - ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਪਹਰੇ ਘਰੁ ੧ ॥ Siree Raag, First Mehl, Pehray, First House: ਪਹਿਲੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਕੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਪਇਆ ਗਰਭਾਸਿ ॥ In the first watch of the night, O my merchant friend, you were cast into the womb, by the Lord's Command. Upside-down, within the womb, you performed penance, O my merchant friend, and you prayed to your Lord and Master. ਖਸਮ ਸੇਤੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਉਰਧ ਧਿਆਨਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ You uttered pray…

Sahibzada Jujhar Singh the second son of Guru Gobind Singh, was born to Mata Jito ji (also known as Mata Sundari ji) at Anandpur on 14 March 1691 (is now celebrated on 9 April each year - Nanakshahi calendar). Like his elder brother, Ajit Singh, he started training in the fighting skills (Gatka) as soon as he started learning the religious texts aged about 4 to 5 years. In 1699, when he was eight years old, he received holy Amrit at the rites of Khalsa initiation, called Amrit Sanskar. By the time it became necessary to leave Anandpur under the pressure of a besieging host in December 1705, Jujhar Singh, nearing the completion of his fifteenth year, was an experienced you…

As a sikh, I am familiar with unfulfilled demands of the sikh quam. I am also familiar with many of the discriminations and prejudices inflicted upon the sikhs and the sikh majority state of Punjab. -punjab divided amongst pakistan and india -Punjab divided further amongst the newly created state of Haryana, rajasthan, and Himachal Pardesh. -Chandigarh built for Punjab, since Punjab lost its historic capitol, lahore to Pakistan -Punjab river waters diverted to other states in quantities dangerous to the livelihood of Punjabi sikh farmers -Punjabi language discriminated against on a state and national level -Sikh identity attacked via official mandates and by gov't …

A racoon is a very greedy but clever animal he is an opportunist. whenever he sees a chance to eat be it garbage or a fish, frog, dead animal he will eat it. he works only at night and hunts a scavenges food. he is attracted to shiny objects like coins and such. so this is the how he is killed by hunters in olden times (in america). the hunter knows of the racoons attraction to shiny objects and so he takes such a thing and places it in a hole that he sizes himself in a tree stump along a river bank where the racoons are most likely to come at night. he secures the shiny thing by putting a nail through it and the wood. the hole in the tree is made such that when the ra…

With vaisakhi around the corener…I thought we could share stories of our Amrit Sanchaars…you can be as vague or as detailed as you wish. Seeing as it was most likely the most important day in our lives, it would be good to share our experiences with each other… To get the ball rolling, I’ll start… I remember I came down into the kitchen where my dad was having breakfast, he could see I was nervous so he gave me sugary tea to drink, he told me what to expect when I got there (even though we had had this conversation a zillion times!) I cried all the way there (haha) well it was like a “good” crying I don’t even know how or why but the tears kept spilling, I had to dr…

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh One day Sant Baba Harnam Singh Ji was making his way to the home of Guru Sahib at Sachkhand Sri Anandpur Sahib Ji. At this time Sant Ji was extremely weak and could only walk a little while before he had to stop and rest. Many people saw Sant Ji struggling up the road but no one stopped and offered to help this beloved flower of Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj. A Sikh who was sat on a bullock cart saw Sant Ji staggering and offered him a ride up to Kapurthala, where he was going. Sant Ji accepted the ride and sat in the cart with the Sikh who looked very worried. As they travelled the Sikh told Sant Ji that he was going to court …
