http://patshahi10.or...glish&Itemid=63 Charitropakhyan and I, a Woman Sanjam Kaur* I am a woman with two teenage daughters and I have recently finished reading the English translation of Charitropakhyan. The whole text of Charitropakhyan deals with different aspects or shades of a woman's nature, some good some bad. The claims by some that these are useless sensual tales arise from incomplete reading of Chritropankhyan with a fickle mind already polluted by the kaamic mud which is all around us. Charitropakhyan should be read in its totality. If one finds them to be sensual tales, it is because all around us there is nothing but 'kaamic' play of the dark-age, kal…

Hello, I am writing an essay on the Raag Gond, and on page 874, Namdev is talking about the various figures in Hindu mythology who were redeemed and whom were not. I am having trouble with the reference to Kali. It says "The Lord, who killed Kaysee and Kans, gave the gift of life to Kali." Does anyone know, is this talking about the goddess Kali or the demon Kali or another one? And what is the story referenced? In what situation was Kali given life?? Thank you so much. My research is not turning up anything. LaChelle, Claremont Graduate University

Sanjat Ji I was thinking how did the cycle of birth and death or 84 lakh joons start. I mean what started the cycle was it kind of like what the bible says that Adam and Eve sinned thats what how sin came into the world. Was it like the Bible when someone did something wrong and God started the cycle.

I just heard this shabad on Alpha from Darbar Sahib. Bhai Rama Singh's autobiography tells about how saddened they felt at the treatment of the Ox - the farmer will treat it really bad. We fare a similar fate if we don't endeavour to live a Gursikh lifestyle. But the cow is revered right so what does a cow stand for in this shabad? This Shabad is by Bhagat Kabeer Ji in Raag Basant on Pannaa 1196 basa(n)th kabeer jeeou Basant, KabeerJee: ik oa(n)kaar sathigur prasaadh || One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru: sureh kee jaisee thaeree chaal || You walk like a cow. thaeree poo(n)shhatt oopar jhamak baal ||1|| The hair on your tail is shiny and…

Are there any restrictions for a Sikh to donate organs after death? In fact if the soul transends the physical body, and organ donation can only do good to relieve suffering, should all Sikhs consider it a moral (if not religious) obligation to donate their bodies after death?

Five (5) lessons to make you think about the way we treat people. 1 - First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady. During my second month of college, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions until I read the last one: "What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?" Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade. "Absolutely," said the p…

i thought this one deserved a thread of its own........... Once I was on a journey and someone asked me which word in a man's vocabulary was the most valuable. My reply was, "Love". The man was surprised. He said he had expected me to answer "soul" or "God". I laughed and said, "Love is God." Raising on the ray of love one can enter the enlightened kingdom of God. It is better to say that love is God than to say that truth is God, because the harmony, the beauty, the vitality and the bliss that are part of love are not part of truth. Truth is to be known; love is to be felt as well as known. The growth and perfection of love lead to the ultimate merger with God. The …

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH A Sikh once came into the darbar of Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj asked this question, "O True Emperor, holy men have risen above worldly attachment. By what thought are they aided? Attachment is a very chronic ailment of mankind. By what method have they risen above this? Please, be kind and explain it to us." "I will tell you the way the saints have conquered attachment to the world. They regard the material possessions as a dream. Just as what you see in a dream, does not exist when you wake up, in the same way saints have woken up to the real knowledge (gyan). All objects of the world appear to be transient to t…

A few steps ahead The easiest way to solve a problem is to start working on it early. The longer you wait, the more costly and difficult it becomes to deal with the situation. Procrastination always seems at the time to be the easy way out. And yet it never is. With things that are out of your control, be patient. With things that are under your control, take action. The sooner you take action, the more effectively that action will bring results. To make the most efficient use of your time, deal with the small problems before they become big ones, and deal with the big problems before they become overwhelming. Having to play catch up can waste a great deal of your ti…
