Second theatre cancels Sikh play 09:50am 22nd December 2004 A theatre boss has abandoned his plans to stage a controversial play that another venue pulled because of violent protests. Neal Foster, the actor-manager of the Birmingham Stage Company, offered to put on Bezhti after the Birmingham Repertory Theatre cancelled further shows on Monday. Sikh protesters demonstrating against the play's depiction of rape and murder in a fictional temple were involved in disturbances at the venue on Saturday. Bosses decided to abandon future performances on safety grounds because faith leaders said they could not ensure there would not be a repeat of the violence. Mr Foste…

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! London cannot allow 'Bezhti' play to be performed. What can we do? We must make our voice hear in large numbers to the right institutions and organisations: Voice your concerns about the play: 1) Abuses Gurbani, playing in the background 2) Has props such as palki sahib, chaur sahib etc 3) Promotes stereotyping of Sikhs 4) Backlash in Birmingham 5) Importance of Gurdwara in Sikhism 6) A blatant attempt to be offensive rather than freedom of speech 7) London as a multicultural city does not stand for this 8) Racism exists in Arts Institutes & they justifying themselves saying its freedom of speech 9) Ope…

Ok if you feel Sikhs have been showed in a biased negative light. Please submit - who the presenter was - what station - what time and date Offender - BBC throughout its website content and on its TV/ radio outlets have put very one sided anti-protesor views. I have complained to BBC about its content and have advised them to provide balanced views as it was a public body getting its funding from taxs collected from people like me. Sameera Ahmed (UK Pakistani Muslim women) persenter of Channel 4 news yesterday was very aggressively speaking against one of the Sikh representivies. Her hate for Sikhs was all to clear in her tone of voice and body language. Please lis…

One of the reasons for pulling the play was that by its use of a Gurdwara it was degrading and insulting to Sikhs. Should the issue of Punjabi singers wearing big Khanda medallions around their necks whilst dancing with half naked girls also be addressed ? Jazzy B and Daler Mendhis brother Mika are the two main culprits.

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! a response my brother gave when questioned about Gurpreet Bhatti being a sikh! This lady obviously has a chip on the shoulder with Sikhs. This playwright is as much a Sikh as Ian Huntley is a Christian. Religion is not what your born into or you say you belong to. It is all about practicing what your faith teaches. Neither have excelled in that.
