From what we have learned in the Sangat of Gursikhs, Matha-tek constitutes the following: 1. Walk into Guru-Darbar, with utmost humility, wearing Gurmukhi Baana. It is lack of fear and respect for Guru Sahib to not wear Baana in Guru Sahib's Darbar. Similarly, to is extremely awkward to not wear a Hazooria when coming to the Darbar. Matha-tek is not complete without Hazooria. 2. While walking towards, Guru Sahib, the eyes should be fixed upon Guru Sahib or half closed and focused towards the floor in front of Guru Sahib. 3. If one is wearing a shawl or loyee, then it should be opened from front, so that the Shasters (weapons) that Gursikh is wearing, are visible to Gur…

Back in the 60's and 70's there was a sant ji from village Maankheri (I think that's how it's spelled). He had a gurdwara built there and lots of ppl go there. He would go on tours all over India for smagams and doing parchar on Sikhi. My dad knows him but can't remember what his name was. He thinks it started with the letter "G" but not sure. Anybody heard of this sant ji? What's his name? : thanx in advance (you guys are so helpful, thanx for all your help)

Theres a older Sikh lady who lives down the road from us. She's around 76 years old and came to this country as a very young lady when they used to come in ships. Her life is quite sad. At her age she is still working, main reason being because her son who is around 50 years old is on drugs and drinks a lot too. This lady works at the same place as my mother. When my mother asked her at work why she is still working and that she should be retired and relaxing, the lady started crying and told my mum how her son is heavily dependant on drugs and alcohol, and that if she does not give him money to buy the drugs he will die. She said whatever he is he is still her son,…

Alright, I don't want this to sound controversial, it is a serious question. Over the last few years I have slowly got to know about the crime, drug dealing and thuggery that is a phenomenon in the Canadian Punjabi community in Vancouver. In particular, the issues that strike me as most shocking and depressing is that Punjabis there are massive gangsters and drug dealers, not just marijuana, cocaine and heroine. Look at this article: Now I am not saying that Sikhs in the UK are perfect. But there is nothing like this happening amongst Sikhs in the UK. What is going on? What is the matter with Canadian Sikhs? Why have so many of them turned into criminals? In the UK bl…

Saadh Sangat, Here's an article on the POWER of Uniform (BANA) Gursikh bana has gone through several transformations, from praatan baana to long chola to kurta pajama to just the basic 5 kakaar. Whats your definition of Bana (Uniform)? Is it a chola for both singhs/singhnia with or without pajami? Or do you think bana is western clothing or english suits? Or do you just think bana is your 5 kakaar? Why do you think so? Do you think we should study historical documents and portraits to draw a conclusion on panthic bana? Should Guru's Khalsa even wear a uniform and stand out and make an image for themselves or should they try to blend in wearing western clothes, etc.? …
