Thank you for your email. The non-English web pages found on the BBC site are part of the BBC World Service radio site and accompany our radio broadcasting activities. The languages in which BBC World Service broadcasts are decided by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the British government, which currently funds us to broadcast in English and 42 languages outside the UK. Sukh Asan Every night at the Gurdwara when SukhAsan takes place and Guru Granth Sahib Ji is respectfully carried on the head of a beloved GurMukh, the rest of the GurMukh Pyare sing : Jithae Jae Bahe mera Satguru, so thaan suhava Ram Raje Wherever my SatGuru comes to sit that place becomes adorned The Dhol is being beaten, the Shaineh (bells and cymbals) are chiming, a group of ten children are at the front, the rest of the Sangat follow behind as Guru Sahib goes to the Peace (Sukh) position (Asan) upstairs on the bed. It feels like Guru Gobind Singh Ji himself is riding majestically by and the Sangat bow, applying the dust of His feet to their forehead GurS…

I was just curious about the way akhandpathh sahib is done nowadays and its significance. The things I dont get about Akhandpathh sahib are: 1.Why do we do mass akhandpathh sahibs?I have seen in Nadha Sahib(a gurudwara near chandigarh) granthis doin like 25 Akhandpatth Sahibs in small adjacent rooms. They do that in a very slow voice which we can't even listen.People give umm few thousand Rupees and they do Akhandpatth Sahib for them.Nobody from the family of the person who gave money bothers to listen the word of Guru.Is there any benefit of doing Akhandpatth Sahib like this?If not, then why Gurudwara sahibs are allowing this kind of thing. 2. I think we are supposed to…

The demand for an independent state of Khalistan sprang back to centre-stage today after kirpan-wielding youths led by several Sikh separatist leaders raised slogans in the Golden Temple complex, vowing not to let Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale's 'sacrifice' go waste. When the day began at 7 a.m. with special prayers at the Akal Takht, the highest Sikh temporal body, there was no hint the calm of the temple complex would be shattered for the first time in many ye…
