  2. Those prisoners have completed their prison sentences. It is against the law for the government to still keep them in prison. And why is the law always only for the Sikhs? why arent the Hindus and Jains who killed the Sikhs in 84 behind prison walls? why this double standards? Even during colonial times, the British did not keep political prisoners in jail after their sentences were finished. The Indian government and people who justify their unconstitutional actions are worse than the British.

  4. State controlled Hindu media not uttering a single word about this news is a proof of the fact "Sikhs are slaves in India, Sikhs are being illegaly kept in jails, there is illegal torture on Sikhs in India", and this is not just on Sikhs, the Naxalite movement/torture on Dalits/Tamils is quite common in India, but is never reported by the state controlled Hindu media. On the other hand, the news of a Hindu consultate in USA from India misuing her USA VISA, by illegally hiring a worker less than USA minimum wages, USA taking legitimate actions, and India Inc. :D taking stupid reciproactory actions is the mainstay of state controlled Indian media.

  6. Simran345, Don't get stressed and bogged down with names of mantars. Leave that for scholars to argue over. Who cares if it's called mool mantar, maha mantar, beej manatar, sadhant mantar etc etc etc You just pick the one you feel like japping and do the practical reciting. That is where you will find the true essence. Not in the title of the mantar. The underlying motive of japping a mantra is to reach the abode of Waheguru right, so recite with full faith and devotion and let it be the guide for the inward journey. You are japping for your own benefit with love so how can anything you jap from gurbani take you the wrong way or do you more harm than good. You will be totally blind on the inward path anyway so let the mantar do the guiding, you just follow it... Lets say you jap any mantar with such intensity and devotion that Waheguru blesses you with his darshan in whatever form that maybe, so fast, that you supposedly die from it. That is possibly the most extreme thing that could happen to you as an individual. Wouldn't it be worthwhile? Haven't you fulfilled the objective of this life and died at his feet? The point I'm making is why be afraid of the consequences of his jaap. He is within you and knows it is he you seek. The references to dieing in the shabad below are killing/subduing the thoughts of the mind by using the mantra of his name. Raag Maajh Guru Amar Das, Ang 115 ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥ Guramukh Paaeae Mokh Dhuaar || The Gurmukh finds the gate of salvation. ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ Anadhin Rang Rathaa Gun Gaavai Andhar Mehal Bulaavaniaa ||7|| Night and day, he is imbued with the Lord's Love. 7. They would not allow hindu jokes, muslim jokes, christian jokes.... why do these cowardly hindus think its acceptable to make jokes on Sikhs? who saved their daughters and people in the battlefields of northern hind many a time. It is a campaign to dehumanise and see Sikhs in India as a joke.... but they do have a point... when you look at a sardar in indian bollywood shows or movies they are often portrayed as a joker as a weakling as a sidekick fool clown.... And that is a fault of master tara singh who in 1946 sided with joining india when Sikhs could have had a seperate nation. Yes Sardars were fools and still are fools the ones who say our people are treated just fine in india why do we need a separate nation. We look at the head of damdami taksal who is seen in a photo sitting on the floor while holding the leg of his master mr parkash badal like a minion. These weak sardars rather than stand up to his corrupt rule and fight for whats right are now agents of that corrupt raj and thus the hindustani's see that the once brave sardars are nothing more than cowards with no fighting spirit, honour and self respect left.

  8. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh The jokes are part of the campaign to de-humanize Sikhs, they are very deliberate and began in India after the Sikh genocide of 1984. The jokes pre-dominate in specific hindu communities (and associated media) known for their extremist views, unfortunately, the racism is now spreading world-wide. 'Santa Banta' jokes surreptitiously refer to Shaheed Satwant Singh and Shaheed Beant Singh (who the sangat is encouraged to research and remember).

  10. He is the only white Sikh guy I can see that is speaking out and standing up for political issues that concern Sikhs. If we look at some other white converts to Sikhism like Mr SikhNet.... he and their hippy happy clappy group tends to avoid trying to get involved in political and freedom movements concerning their Sikh brothers and sisters aboard.....which is a real big shame and a big stain on their pro-Sikh credentials....as a Sikh should always be involved in spirituality aswell as temporal politics that affects the freedom and lives of their fellow adherents. I have seen at least 2 white Sikh women involved actively in political Sikh demonstrations against Indian injustice recently. The mark of a true Sikh is when he/she feels the pain and suffering of their fellow Sikh brother and sister who has been unjustly treated.

  11. Whats it matter if your Sikh Christian Hindu Muslim? The facts are crystal clear. 3 of 5 English Killers implicated in the 1992 Racist Murder of an Affro carribean boy Stephen Lawrence are yet to be bought to Justice!! The Racist Killing of Black Schoolboy Rolan Adams by ENglish racist Thugs results in a 2 year sentance!! 2 Years for ending the life of a 15 year old?? The Killers of Indian Rohit Duggal are not bought to book. Indian Satpal Ram was jailed 15 years for defending his own life. Justice? Whats it matter if its English justicce american justice or indian Justice. The Rulebook has to be applied fairly no matter what colour Race Religion someone is. Mahatma Ghandi had supported Racial Apartheid in South Africa and wrote letters sympathising with Hitlers Secretary. Was he a "Terrorist sympathiser" for South African Natives and jewish Diaspora in Germany? But a Saviour for Upper Class Hindus? or does the definition of terrorist always stay the same?

  13. Updates from Gurdwara Amb Sahib – Bhai Gurbaksh Singh’s Hunger Strike Enters 33rd day By: Sikh24 Editors Gurdas Mann with Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa at Gurdwara Amb Sahib. Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala, Damdami Taksal, can be seeing in the picture as well. AJITGARH, Punjab (December 17, 2013)—Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa’s hunger strike has entered the 33rd day. Bhai Sahib remains in rising spirits and speaks to the Sikh congregation whenever possible. Ever since announcing his fast until death, he has remained steadfast in his demands to free Sikh political prisoners. At the same time, he has continued to remain imbued in naam and prayer. While Chaupai Sahib recitation has continued at Gurdwara Amb Sahib, Bhai Gurbaksh Singh spends much of his time listening to other banis and kirtan. Just yesterday, after a group of Gursikhs arrived from Jallandhar and started doing kirtan around midnight, Bhai Gurbaksh Singh got up to be in sangat. This past Monday, a large scale march was taken out from Damdama Sahib that reached Gurdwara Amb Sahib. Sikhs from a number of villages took part in the march and raised awareness of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh’s message. While much is being done by Sikhs worldwide to raise awareness, the campaign has not received much support at a local grassroots level. In addition, the self proclaimed Saint’s Union, Sant Samaj members who had received much love and respect from Bhai Gurbaksh Singh have now gone quiet and have remained absent from further meetings at Gurdwara Amb Sahib. Damdami Taksal Jathedar, Baba Harnaam Singh who is the President of Sant Samaj has remained missing ever since Bhai Gurbaksh Singh started his hunger strike on November 14. Today, Sikhs across Punjab (including Chandigarh) will be holding protests outside offices of Deputy Commissioners to bring awareness of the cause. Sikh24 is making the following suggestions to bring the movement to the next level – 1) First and foremost, Baba Ranjit Singh Dhadriawale should organize diwans at Gurdwara Amb Sahib. He should start a march from Gurdwara Parmeshuar Dwar and arrive at Gurdwara Amb Sahib to express full solidarity with Bhai Gurbaksh Singh’s mission. 2) Preachers such as Giani Pinderpal Singh and Bhai Amrik Singh (Chandigarh) who have supported Panthik causes in the past should be invited by Sikh Sangat to hold regular programs at Gurdwara Amb Sahib. Bhai Amrik Singh openly spoke in favour of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh, however Giani Pinderpal Singh has remained silent. 3) Sikh Sangat in Punjab should once again hoist “nishan sahibs” atop their houses to express solidarity with Bhai Gurbaksh Singh. 4) Panthik leaders should draft a list of detainees of other communities who have completed their sentences but remain lodged in jails. This list should include a list of Tamil and Kashmiri detainees, amongst others. 5) Sikh Sangat living worldwide should contact their Government officials and Human Rights Organizations and seek their involvement in this case. An email template has been made available on Sikh24.com that can be copied and forwarded. In addition, sangat living worldwide should request their relatives and friends to visit Bhai Gurbaksh Singh at Gurdwara Amb Sahi. We believe point #1 is most important because people in villages who stand with Baba Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale need to rise and join Bhai Gurbaksh Singh. This can only happen if personalities like Baba Dhadrianwale openly support the cause of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh. Although Bhai Sahib has visited Bhai Gurbaksh Singh in person a number of times, he is yet to hold a program at Gurdwara Amb Sahib.

  21. There are two set of rules, one is for Sikhs and other is for Hindues. If as a Hindu, you kill hundred of Sikhs then you get cabinet positions, otherwise as a Sikh you stay in the jail even after your jail term is over " because we don't wanna risk so called hard won peace".

  22. Irrespective who these political prisoners are, they should be released if they have served their terms. Indian Judicial system gave them a particular jail sentence (whether that was harsh or not that is a different topic of discussion) and as per the law of the land, they must be released. Ever heard of basic human rights (BHR) ? BTW what hard won peace are you talking about? If govt wants save its face, they should try to release the 6 prisoners so that Bhai Gurbaksh Singh ji can be saved!

  25. China is a valid option to make an alliance with since it will be a future super power and the world listens to China. It has very hostile relations with India. Even on the geo political level, Pakistan is also an ally of China because Pakistan realized early on that China is a very hostile neighbor to India and to cement their friendship Pakistan did the unthinkable by giving away from Kashmiri territory to China in 1963. What ever Sikh political leadership does, it needs to think deep every step along the way and not be used by anyone as a mere pawn because new allies can always start to do chalakian.

  26. Neither the sakhi of Prithi Chand is false, nor the point I try to make you understand is false. False is your ego, which does not allow you to accept any other view than yours. Ego is haume, is ahankar, and it seems, you do not have it clear at all, the difference. No matter how hard you may try to argue, or do veechar according to you, but I know where I am standing... what to say about you, but nobody can make me move from my firm beliefs about the Bani and Guru Ji, due only to His Grace, otherwise I am quite unfit . You say:All of gurbani can be proved starting from now there are no levels or rises in avasta to prove it. We don't need to throw logic out of the window when examining gurbani. See your own contradictions: first you say that gurbani can be proved...we do not need logic out of the window.... but at a later place you say, all personal opinions are theories, and only Guru Ji can make us understand what they want to say ..... So according to you if everybody has opinions or own theories, then how can agreement come from the veechaar ... because if there are 100 people and 100 opinions are the outcome, where is the truth which our Guru Sahibans want to convey us? It is impossible to carry on, according to your way of thinking... What makes you understand that I do not go through the gurmukhi in the Bani, and depend on english translations only? That is not true.... of course I do relate the english translation to the gurmukhi, and only when I find sense to it, I do express myself ... You see me using english, because we are on a english speaking and writing website : SikhSangat Be humble man, do not be so stubborn... Nobody says, the soul dies, neither that the soul is the body or the mind as you think All of us know, that the soul is immortal. The thing is, the soul and mind are knotted together. Kal Purukh wanted to have this mayavee creation, and he asked for souls from Akal Purukh to populate it, as he can not create or destroy souls by himself. Some may ask, why did Akal Purukh did so....that I can not answer, but for sure we know, He can never make mistakes, as He is all wisdom and Consciousness... at our presnt stage we can never understand. So the next thing Dharam Rai did, in order to keep the souls as prisoners, he cunningly united the souls with mind, and thus the law of karma was then establised. Because, any karma created by the mind, whether good or bad, the soul would had to pay or get rewarded for it, and as we can not remain karmaless, our amount of karmas are always on increase... so you see....the soul being away from Satnam, has forgotten its origin, and due to the mind, the panj karma and panj gyan indriyas, is mercilessly roaming in the cycle of births and deaths along with the mind, whose headquarters are in the causal region. Let me remind you, the soul is not the body nor the ego nor the mind...because you tend to get confused at this very point, this is your main problem here, not that you do not know something or other, about the Bani...but here only at this very point, you are lost ...There starts your confussions...otherwise you are certainly a well versed man, and there is no doubt about it. Going back to the post: Sree Guru Arjun Dev Maharaj says in Raag Gauree Gwaarayree: ka-ee janam bha-ay keet patangaa. In so many incarnations, you were a worm and an insect; ka-ee janam gaj meen kurangaa. in so many incarnations, you were an elephant, a fish and a deer ka-ee janam pankhee sarap ho-i-o. In so many incarnations, you were a bird and a snake. ka-ee janam haivar barikh jo-i-o. In so many incarnations, you were yoked as an ox and a horse As we can see, He is saying, due to the influences and misguiding of the mind and ego, you did karmas for which you had to take births in different species, and that too not once or twice...but many times. Remember , He is saying, that the soul had to go through so many janam and maran, in different bodies, sometimes as plants , fish, or ox among others of the chaurasee ka chhakar, due to its knot with the mind . This knot, the soul can not break it by itself, unless it gets the aid of a power superior to the mind, maya, and the very Kal Purukh, who does not want any soul to escape from this his creation, so he has set traps in forms of karmas at every step, to keep the soul prisoner here. And that superior power, is the one of Nam, on which, if the soul meditates, it can burn all its karmas, clean all the accumulated dirt, defeat the mind, maya and Kal, free itself from all these bondages, and return back to its origin, in the company with that Shabad. That is why the Bani says: Nanak Nam, jahaaz hae. Because boarding on that Nam, through its Simram, the soul reaches its true home, and merge back in Satnam, from where it one day left. That Shabad acts then as a guide to the soul, and so the Bani says: Shabad Guru, dhun(soul) chela. Means, with the power and authority of Nam, the soul crosses this Bahvsagar. And as it is in the company of Shabad and Nam, no power can stop the soul...then even Dharam Rai, bows down to that wadhbhagee soul accompanied by the Shabad Guru. So then Guru Ji says: mil jagdees milan kee baree-aa. Meet the Lord of the Universe - now is the time to meet Him. chirankaal ih dayh sanjaree-aa. After so very long, this human body was fashioned for you. saaDhsang bha-i-o, janam paraapat. Through the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you obtained this human life. kar sayvaa bhaj har har gurmat. Do seva - selfless service(Nam Simran); follow the Guru's Teachings(updesh), and vibrate(meditate, do bandagee, do kamaee) the Lord's Name, Har, Har. After wandering aimlessly in the creation, you have been blessed with a human body, that is the door for your liberation. Get the Gurparasd of Nam(Guru´s teachings, updesh, bhed, jugtee), and do the jaap of the Nam of the Lord Har. Gurmat existed before you and me, and it shall go on, it stands by itself, by the power of our Guru Sahibans... We are not discovering anything new..... we are dirty, moorakh, agyanis, how can we ever properly understand the Ambrosial Bani of our Gurus ..for that, we have to be pure like them... Until then, we should with one pointed devotion and faith, put into practice what it says, we do not need to understand its real meaning fully, that is why Guru Nanak Dev Maharaj knowing about our limitations, says in Jap Ji sahib, do the meditation or jaap of Nam, and all the truths of the Bani shall be revealed unto you... no matter even if you are illiterate and can not read, or you are handicapped and you can not go to hear the parchars ... Beacuse: Har mandir eheu sareer hae, gyan ratan pargat Hoe... this human body is the real temple, where He should be worshiped and can be realized . Not that I like to discuss with you, but I just can not remain quiet, if you try to throw dirt(false accusations) on me.... Maybe it is better to ignore you, but out of sympathy, and as a huamn being, knowing that your soul and mine, as well of the rest of the beings, are drops of the same Ocean Satnam... so with the aid of the Bani, I will always try my best to answer you, and clear your doubts. Sat Sree Akal.

  27. By Ayaz Amir Arising from the same soil, breathing the same air, moving to the same folk songs and music, defined by the same five rivers, Punjab over the centuries has yet produced two distinct types of personality: the Muslim Punjabi and the Sikh Punjabi. There is also the Hindu Punjabi but for ease of discussion let the first two categories suffice. The Sikhs were not just the followers of a new religion. Under a succession of Sikh warlords taking advantage of the long twilight of the Mughal Empire, and then under Ranjit Singh who founded a Sikh kingdom – the first unified Punjabi political entity in over 2000 years – they became a nation. In this journey from obscurity to kingship, the Sikhs proved themselves tough warriors, more than a match for the Mughals to the east and the Afghans to the west. After Nadir Shah’s invasion of India (1739 – a mere 32 years after the death of Aurangzeb) Punjab fell from Mughal hands, becoming first a possession of Nadir Shah’s empire and then part of Ahmed Shah Abdali’s kingdom of Kabul. The Sikhs took back Punjab from the Afghans and through war and conquest Ranjit Singh made Peshawar a part of his Sikh kingdom. Successors to the Sikhs were the British and when the Lahore Durbar, after the death of Ranjit Singh, became a victim of intrigue and dissension, and the Khalsa army suffered defeat in two wars, Punjab became part of the British Empire. And we have succeeded the British. Ranjit Singh’s success was on the battlefield. His failure was the failure of Indian despotism, Muslim and non-Muslim alike: the inability to lay the foundations of a lasting political order. The Delhi Sultans couldn’t do it; the Mughals couldn’t do it; and Ranjit Singh failed in the same measure. There’s one thing missing from this picture. Even when Ranjit Singh was lord of Punjab, Muslims constituted the majority in his kingdom, as also in Kashmir. But from the death of Aurangzeb in 1707 right up to the British annexation of Punjab in 1849, a span of 150 years, Muslim governors and commanders – in Kasur, Multan and elsewhere – appear as minor characters, acknowledging the suzerainty of Kabul or Lahore, but lacking the dash or energy to fill the vacuum caused by the collapse of Mughal power in Punjab. The Sikhs made that grab for power. They had the drive and the ability, and the fighting prowess. But where was the Punjabi Muslim? Why wasn’t he able to throw up a leadership equal in valour and élan to the rampaging Sikh? The Chathas would sometimes put up a fight, as would the Bhattis and, to the north, tribes like the Janjuas. But they couldn’t stand up to Sikh power. One Muslim name stands out: that of Adina Beg Khan who through ability and intelligence became very briefly ruler of Lahore. But he died and that was it and soon over the battlements of the Lahore Fort, built by Akbar the Great, shone the star of Ranjit Singh. This is not history for the sake of history. It sheds some light on our predicament today. Indian Punjab is just a planet in the Indian constellation. But Pakistani Punjab because of numbers and resources, representation in the army and administration, is the engine, the motor, the driving force of this republic. We lament the quality of leadership… that we could do much better if we had a better leadership class. But if Muslim Punjab couldn’t perform this feat in that long interregnum of Mughal decline, by what magic does it reverse the dynamics of history and from the same air, the same soil, the same rivers – in fact no longer five but three – produce a class of warriors and administrators (warriors in the metaphorical sense) that can lead Pakistan out of the shadows and into the sun? We are successors not to the Sikhs but the British. Lahore today – its Mall, its old buildings, its seats of authority, the best of its schools and colleges, the best of its hospitals, the Secretariat, the police chief’s office, the assembly building, the high court – is a reminder not of our Sikh but our British past. The settlement of land, the demarcation of tehsil and district boundaries, qanungo and patwar circles, even thana jurisdictions (many of them) are a reflection of that past. The British were not just conquerors. They were more than that, flag-bearers of a superior civilisation. Japan embraced this civilisation and became a great power. China has embraced the same civilisation – signified by knowledge and learning – and is on its path to world greatness. The Punjabi Muslim had no qualms about enlisting in the British army and fighting its battles in distant lands. The Muslim Punjabi from Chakwal, Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Attock and the other enlistment districts distinguished himself under British colours, sometimes even winning the highest awards. As a subordinate there was no one who came near his merit. But when it came to acquiring the mental habits of that superior civilisation there arose before him problems of the mind and psychology. Punjab was the sword arm of the empire but the Muslim component of its mind remained trapped in a time warp. Instead of looking forward and stepping into the future the Punjabi mind harked back to an imaginary past, there seeking its greatest comfort. The Pathan was not afraid of India. He had ruled India in the past. The Sindhi had no problem with India. For centuries past Muslims and Hindus had lived together in Sindh in amity. The Baloch imagination moved in other spheres: Iran to the west, Afghanistan to the north. As for the Kashmiri, his fate had not figured in the convoluted events leading up to Partition. The fear of India was an obsession of the Punjabi ruling class and its ideological fellow-travellers crossing over from East Punjab, Delhi, Lucknow, Bhopal, Bihar and Hyderabad Deccan. Fear and insecurity they carried in their hearts and minds and fear and insecurity they made part of the ruling ethos of the new state. There was another thing to note. Muslim conquerors had won their Indian dominion at the point of the sword. The Mughals had gained their empire the same way. Ranjit Singh created his Sikh kingdom by the sword and a high order of statesmanship. The British won their empire through the sword and the power of a forward civilisation. But the Punjabi Muslim, now the dominant partner in the new state, was receiving his gift not through dint of effort but the sheer force of circumstances. So is it any surprise if the Punjabi Muslim and his Mohajir ally, sharing the same mindset and the same analysis of history, instead of making something of their gifted acquisition went back into the past, worshipping at the altar of confused ideology, looking at the future with fearful eyes and falling into the lap of outside powers to gain a feeling of security? And the differences which still persist: look at Indian Punjab, its dance and vitality and the thing they have made of the bhangra. In Lahore kite-flying and basant become a threat to national security. Talk and think a bit openly and you invite the wrath of the ideological battalions. And in a city on the crest of whose fort the emperor Jahangir drank deep and looked into Noor Jahan’s eyes, to get a drop of anything requires a visit to a Christian friend or a spiritual mentor (otherwise known as a bootlegger). Getting a drop is not the point; liberating the Muslim Punjabi mind is. For hundreds of years men and women entered the Data Darbar through the same gates. Then a committee, of which Finance Minister Ishaq Dar is a member, decided that piety was best served if the gates were segregated. And minds keen as his are supposed to fix our economy. http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-9-219855-Historys-baggage-Pakistans-Punjab-problem

  28. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh UK Sikh gurdwara's are continuing to carry out inter-faith weddings against Akal Takht advice. The Rehat Maryada states 'Persons professings faiths other than the Sikh faith cannot be joined in wedlock by the anand karaj ceremony.' So, although the marriages may be legal under UK law, are the marriages recognised under Sikh principles? Are gurdwara masand's breaking the law by conducting marriages under 'false pretences'?
