  1. The disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 is the kind of mystery that's not supposed to be possible any more. The Information Age is also the age of surveillance, of interconnectedness, of cloud computing, of GPS satellites, of intelligence agencies that can monitor terrorists from space or call in a drone strike from a control console on the other side of the world. Sangat Ji,let's pray for all the souls on board that aircraft as well as all the family members of the ones related. Nanak naam chardi kala, tere bhaane sarbat da bhalla! 5. Amritdhari Sikh attacked, brutally beaten up by miscreants in Amritsar, while police remained mute spectator Amritsar, Punjab (March 15, 2014): As per media reports a Sikh youth was brutally thrashed on Saturday (March 15) by demonstrators in Amritsar for no apparent reason after he asked for a way to reach to his shop near Bhandari Bridge. Activists of various Dalit organizations were protesting at Bhandari Bridge in support of their demands, including construction of a temple at Ram Teerath. Amritdhari Sikh beaten up badly at Amritsar As per media reports [t]he victim, Jasbir Singh, an Amritdhari Sikh youth, said that he had requested the protesters to let him go to his shop, and without any provocation, he was beaten by some of the Dalit youths. He alleged that they removed his turban off his head and fist cuffed him. They also pulled his hair in the presence of some senior police officials. He rued that none of the policemen came forward to rescue him. He said police should book the culprits and also demanded justice. Notably, police officials, who later reached the spot, misbehaved with the media. Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh said the incident was brought to his knowledge, and added that he is also aware of the reports of police officials misbehaving with the media. He said that he has instructed the DCP to look into the matter, and assured strict action against the culprits, who had thrashed Jasbir Singh, and the policemen for their negligence, if any. 6. If I had a penny for all the times he said he's "well-read" I would be a pound behind you. The historians scholars, people with an interest have never been able to agree on a number of people killed. Figures have ranged from about 60,000 upto 1.5 million. The only reason why some English writers say that more muslims died in E Panjab, was because they saw a lot of the violence there. There were very few english witnesses to what was happening in W Panjab. Even then some of the English men were working for the pakistan govt after partition, like Mudie, and it was people like him, who exaggerated such claims.

  7. In reply to AJ as quote doesn't show, You really have swallowed probably the most ridiculous query churned out by the Indian propaganda merchants. Do you really think they wouldn't have attacked if Bhindranwale wasn't inside, when they had been planning the attack for 18 months, even constructing a replica Harmandir Sahib. Bhindranwale was the bait, the attack wasn't to eliminate ''Terrorists'', if Sant Ji was a terrorist simply for being pro-Sikh rights, then I and millions of others are as well. The attack was to strike a blow directly at the heart of every Sikh living in the fascist Hindutva Empire called India. Watch Rajoana TV, Buy ''Dioalogue with millitants'' etc. Don't swallow lies and think because the Indian GOVT/Military are saying it, that its true, they are only comprised of people, and people lie, and people will hurt people to get their way, They would gladly kill every Sikh In Punjab if it meant keeping Punjab as part of India. Thank God we had brave Shaheeds like Sant Ji and Subeg Singh, ask yourself why General Subeg Singh who put his life on the line for India many times, why did he join the Sikh freedom movement ?

  8. I'm not sure why you're using Hindi words to Punjabi speaking Sikhs, but there is no such word as 'gotra' in the Punjabi language. In Punjabi we have a word called 'gorth', perhaps thats what you mean ? Well you might be, and judging by your penchant for using Hindi words you probably are but... we're certainly not. We belong to a place called Punjab. It spent thousands of years being the easternmost province of Persia, totally seperate to the nation to its south called India and only became part of 'India' in 1947 after the Sikhs were lied to and hoodwinked into joining it after false promises of autonomous freedom.

  9. Great News! For once we have a Sikh organisation that does what it says. I donate to SOPW on a regular basis and I would urge anyone else who would like to donate to a worthwhile cause to also do the same. I donate only to SOPW and Sikh Channel because I know that in both cases my money is going to a Panthic cause.

  10. If I had a penny for every time WLS comes onto this forum to tell us how more Muslims were killed in 1947 than Sikhs and Hindus I would have been a millionaire years ago! The facts given by Jonny101 and Chatanga are correct. Look at it this way. One village of 50 people fights a village of 500. The village of 50 people lose 10 people and the village for 500 lose 20 people. So the village of 500 people may have lost the most but because it has a larger population base it will take a few years and the population will become 500 again. For the village of 50 people it will take decades before they can reach their population back to 50 again. Add to this that along with the loss of 10 people the smaller village also loses half of its land. So which village should be getting our sympathy? Which village has a brighter future? OK so the people in the bigger village now start to kill each other but that's their problem no ours! Btw there is no evidence that more Muslims died that Hindus and Sikhs in 1947. We only have Pakistani propaganda to thank and their mouthpiece WLS for this notion. For the Muslims 1947 was about getting their rule back and getting their hands on the lands of the Sikhs and the businesses of the Hindus. For the Hindus, 1947 was about getting to rule a country that they had been slaves in for the last 1000 years. For the Sikhs 1947 was about surviving as a people. It was not for nothing that Master Tara Singh equated the coming struggle as the same terms as the annihilation that the people of Germany and Japan had faced in 1945. Had the Sikhs not taken to arms and had acquiesced to Pakistan, we would have been a minority like the Hindus and Christians are in Pakistan today. They have no rights and are waiting for another atrocity after the last one.

  12. The fact is that they brought it upon themselves. They could have not supported the communalist muslim league, and clearly rejected pakistan. they could have said something about the Rawalpindi pogrom, but they didnt. The majority of muslims in panjab supported the Pakistan movement. What happened in East Panjab after partition, was the chickens had come home to roost (to quote a muslim guy). For some years in Panjab, and over India, muslims were using violence as and when it suited them to further their political goals. Kill the kafirs, and allah loves you, but when the kafirs bite back, whinge about it for decades. In western panjab, the sikhs only being about 5 or 10 % of the population against some 80 or 90 % of the muslims, took severe casualties, but in East Panjab, where Sikhs were only something like 15-20% of the population, as against 30 to 49% of the muslim population, the Sikhs still gave them what for. In East Panjab, they still outnumbered the Sikhs in more or less every district by 2 to 1, or 3 to 1, yet they got they beat. Only where they could fight Sikhs 8 to 1 or 9 to 1, they managed to do something. So, don't whinge about them, they had everything in their favour, but the scars of Rawalpindi, had proved too strong for them. Why are you buying into the Pakistani propaganda that more muslims were killed. It's all lies, they dont even acknowledge that Rawalpindi saka happened, yet you lap up their propaganda. I'm not sure sure that the Sikh community has recovered from partition of panjab. Those Sikhs in the know about this are still bitter from my experience. But what we have to accept is that partition had happened, and how we can work towards restoring our heritage in West Panjab, and extending hands of mutual co-operation and acknowledgement across the border. That means that the Pakistani curriculum tells schoolchildren the truth about what they did to create Pakistan, and lose their victim mentality over partition violence.

  14. What makes you think Bhindranewale had any say on who entered or left the Harmandir Sahib complex ? He wasn't controlling who entered and who left, he wasn't forcefulky holding anyone in the complex. This was a delibrately timed attack by the Indian government at a time when they knew the complex would be full of pilgrims so that they could inflict maximum casulties to teach Sikhs a lesson and gain popularity at the votes at the next election for Indira Gandhi by falsely labelling a minority as terrorists. It was the Indian army that didn't allow pilgrims to leave the complex and murdered hundreds of innocent men, women and children.

  15. WJKK WJKF Dear Brother and sisters, We should all fight for equality and one sikhi. The very fact that this topic has become about "jatt" and "bhatra" is a reflection of the misunderstanding of sikhi. There can never be jatt sikh, bhatra sikh or whatever else, there can only be a guru ka sikh. My brother Cisco Singhs point is right that when amrit is adopted one becomes Singh and Kaur and I think the original point of amrit was that the set of amrit dhari khalsa parents would obviously initiate and administer the holy ambrit to their children and so on...this is how it was meant to be, hence why the suffix Singh and Kaur should be passed on however this has been broken and the issues which have been discussed on this forum present day are a direct consequence of this. We should all take steps to our guru, forget our caste affiliations and the whole "my caste is better than yours" and unite! Family names should be passed down through knowledge, only for the purpose of "a" cannot marry "a" and nothing else, we should be initiated with amrit and follow the hukum. Anyone who believes in the ten gurus and the Shiri Guru Granth Sahib ji but has not drank the holy amrit should only refer themselves to be a sikh, when they understand the sacrifice and cost of which our shaheed gave for the privilege to call themselves sikhs. If they believe in the superiority of their caste whether it be jatt or bhatra, they should understand they are not simply sikh. They are a product of their caste and void of any understanding of sikhi. In Bara Maha da Paath, it states : This is Nanak's prayer: "Please show Your Mercy, and bestow Your Name. The gurus Khalsa is casteless, creed-less, genderless, ageless and colourless, yet we still argue for caste supremacy? Lolz WJKK WJKF

  16. WJKK WJKF Great points to which I agree with you, the Nirmal panth of Akal Purakh waheguru via guru nanak dev ji through his 10 other forms has been hijacked by caste. Hence why people feel the need to convert. If only they put their trust and faith in sikhi and pushed for change and solidarity. WJKK WJKF

  17. KNOXVILLE Authorities said there is nothing suspicious about a Friday morning fire that burst through the roof of East Tennessees only public Sikh gurdwara. This is the only public gurdwara (temple) in East Tennessee and it was the first public gurdwara in East Tennessee, said Brandon Singh, music coordinator for the Sikh Sangat of East Tennessee. Singh said the temple served several hundred Sikhs in East Tennessee, from Bristol to Chattanooga. He said 40-45 people regularly attended Sunday services. Knoxville firefighters learned of the blaze shortly after midnight, according to Knoxville Fire Department spokesman Capt. D.J. Corcoran. A neighbor reported flames at the temple at 704 Washburn Road off Sutherland Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they found flames shooting through the roof of the gurdwara. Despite firefighters efforts, the flames had advanced too far and most of the temples roof collapsed, Corcoran said. Significant fire damage will delay the use of the structure for future worship services, Corcoran said. No one was injured during the incident. Theres not any foul play suspected, Corcoran said. Fire investigators are expected to return to the scene Friday afternoon to determine the cause. Corcoran said it appears the fire started near an area of the structure used for storage. The Sikh Sangat of East Tennessee obtained the building at Washburn Road in January 2011 for its services. The word sangat means congregation. Singh said the Sikh sangat has been active in East Tennessee for more than 15 years. The sangat met in private homes before the public gurdwara was established on Washburn Road. The temple is insured, Singh said, but the sangat leaders will have to meet to decide on a future path for the Washburn Road temple. There are some private gurdwaras in peoples houses, which is where we worshipped before we got the public gurdwara, so well probably meet there until we get things settled, Singh said. Singh said he learned of the blaze early Friday morning when a neighbor called to say the locked temple was on fire. Weve had great neighbors here at the temple, Singh said. More details as they develop online and in Saturdays News Sentinel. http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2014/mar/14/flames-rip-through-sikh-temple-off-sutherland/

  20. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Sikhi does not need people like this 'businessman'. This poor fool knows little about Christian philosophy (or Sikhi) and has been paraded like a circus animal (to recruit others). Frankly we are surprised he is still keeping his Sikh appearance. If he wants to be a Christian it is his choice but do not masquerade as a Sikh. Sikhs have a distinct and special appearance, not to be confused with this (self-confessed) alcohol consuming person who did not base his choice on facts and research. Instead, he was desperate. “Rehat Pyari Mujh Ko Sikh Pyara Nahi” The code of conduct is more lovely than the Sikh; “Rehni Rahe Soi Sikh Mera, O Thakur Me Uska Chera” One who is in discipline is my Sikh, then he’s my Master and I his disciple “Rehat Bina Nahi Sikh Akhawe Rehat Bina Dar Chotan Khawe” Without discipline none shall call you Sikh, Without Discipline one keeps on getting hurt; “Rehat Bina Sukh Kabhoon Naa Lahe, Taan Te Rehat Su Drid Kar Rahe” Without discipline we cannot be in peace, devoid of discipline the Lord makes you poor. ~ Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji

  21. (Reuters) - India has decided to block investigations by the United States into its trade policies and patent laws and prepare for a battle at the World Trade Organization (WTO), a move that could escalate already-strained tension between the two countries. New Delhi is furious about a threat of trade sanctions made by the U.S. Trade Representative's (USTR) office over its protection of intellectual property rights (IPR), preference for domestic producers and non-trade barriers. Ahead of a general election, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's government does not want to be seen as bowing to U.S. pressure, amid lingering tension over the recent arrest and strip search of a female diplomat in New York suspected of visa fraud. On Wednesday, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) - which represents about 50 U.S. business groups - asked the USTR to designate India a Priority Foreign Country in its 2014 report. "This designation appropriately would rank India among the very worst violators of intellectual property rights and establish a process leading to concrete solutions," NAM said in a letter to U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman. The USTR is holding public hearings for its annual report due in April. The report will provide details on nations denying protection of IP rights or fair market access to U.S. firms. India is widely perceived in Washington as a serial trade offender, with U.S. firms unhappy about imports of everything from shrimp to steel pipes they say threaten jobs, as well as a lack of fair access to the Indian market for its goods. WTO CASES This month, Washington said it was filing its second case at the WTO over domestic content requirements in India's solar programme, which aims to ease energy shortages in Asia's third-largest economy. There are 14 past or current WTO cases between India and the United States, whose bilateral trade in goods measured $63.7 billion last year, not including the latest case. India has since hardened its stance, instructing officials not to entertain any request from the United States International Trade Commission (USITC) - a quasi-judicial federal agency - to examine its trade practices. India's trade ministry has also "advised" U.S. Deputy Trade Representative Wendy Cutler to put off a visit to India that had been scheduled for late March due to the parliamentary election due in April or May, a senior official told Reuters. The official said India had asked for alternative dates for the visit, possibly after the elections, adding that the decision was not linked with the trade tension. A spokeswoman for the USTR said officials from both governments continued to engage in constructive discussions on trade and investment issues and to seek out opportunities for further economic collaboration. WORST OFFENDERS The USTR listed in a February 12 report markets in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad as being among the worst offenders globally for the sale of pirated software and counterfeit goods. A visit by the USITC delegation to meet officials from the Indian commerce, industry, health, telecom and finance ministries has also been put on hold. A USITC spokeswoman confirmed the delay, saying they were looking for "other windows" for a visit, but declined to comment on the reasons for the delay. Newly appointed Trade Secretary Rajeev Kher, who pushed India's stand on food security issues at a WTO meeting in Bali, as chief WTO negotiator, has told his officials to tackle bilateral trade disputes preferably through multi-lateral forums. India has also urged President Barack Obama's administration not to fall prey to special interest groups and consider trade issues in the context of the wider economic and strategic relationship between the two countries. Officials say any move towards putting India on a priority foreign countries list would hurt bilateral relations. "There are clear stresses in the India-US trade, economic relations," said another government official who, like others who spoke to Reuters, declined to be identified due to the sensitivity of the matter. "If it is a strategic relationship, they should be looking at the larger picture." http://uk.reuters.com/article/2014/02/26/uk-india-trade-usa-idUKBREA1P02K20140226
