  3. I had the pleasure of meeting him when he visited New Zealand recently and performed Kirtan at our Gurdwara. He does good katha in English and Punjabi and interacts well with children and the young Sangat members. He also expressed anguish at the lack of young Sikhs becoming Pracharaks and told of how much flak he faced when he decided to become one. He had famous prachararaks questioning his decision which really hurt him. He is a highly educated young man and may Waheguru grant him wisdom and strength to shine in his chosen role.

  5. At some point during the last century, humans have decided that in order to be happy, we have to work our off not because we need to provide for our families, but because we need to buy the best newest stuff. The newest phone, the newest car, the biggest house etc.. Lately, a German intern died after 72 hours of no sleep because he's working at an investment bank and is willing to sacrifice what it takes, even his life, so that he secures his 'future' of endless stream of buying stuff that will define who he is. That's basically our lives nowadays, we work not because we need to fulfill a certain adequate of standard of living for those we care about, we work so that we buy stuff and spend what we earn on going to fancy restaurants and clubs. And the problem is the buying never stops, you will keep spending your money on stuff that will in the end consume you instead of you consuming them Farida Roti meri kaath kee , laavan meri bukh jere Khange chopriya , ghane sehenge dukh ... You can say that each person lives his own life, and I can't say that's wrong for a person to work all day just so that he buys the newest car, but the problem with this hyper-consumption is that if it's sustained, it will be the end of humanity. Imagine if all the Indians and the Chinese (and not just a small subsection of them) can afford to live the same lifestyle the Westerners do. Also, just look at pictures of Beijing and Shanghai, see the blinding fogs they have there. It's not because of THEIR aggressive manufacturing it's because of OUR aggressive consumption. Nobody stops to think that his designer clothes is made by the hands of small children working in the most dangerous environments that significantly contribute to the world's pollution levels. That's the biggest threat to humanity as a whole and to us as individuals. We forgot about human happiness, instead we are willing to work half our day so that we can make payments to our houses and cars and when you finish paying you realize you're a disease-ridden old man and that your life is already over. And I am not saying I am not implicated in this or I won't be even more implicated in the future, I am just complaining that we have become passive consumerists

  6. Gurdaspur, Punjab (April 10, 2014): It is learnt that mother of Jaspal Singh Gurdaspur, who was killed in Punjab police firing on 29 March 2012, has hit Badal Dal’s local MLA with her slipper. “Punjab Police bullets killed Jaspal Singh in March 2012. Finding no justice but police and political pressure in the case even after a year and 24 hours after a court of inquiry handed over clean chit to two senior police officers, the mother of Jaspal Singh took the matter and chappals in her own hands and proceeded to deliver the justice”, YesPunjab.com has noted, in it’s news report. Sarabjit Kaur, mother of Bhai Jaspal Singh Gurdaspur [File Photo] “Gurdaspur SAD MLA Gurbachann Singh Babbehali got it on his face. The MLA was hit with a chappal when he visited Jaspal Singh’s village Chor Sidhwan” YesPunjab report reads. “Babbehali had to face the wrath of the enraged mother of Jaspal Singh Gurdaspur for his alleged role in the case of killing of her son, who was shot dead during police firing on March 2, 2012 ,the day of Punjab Bandh. The Bandh was observed in support of Balwant Singh Rajoana”. “The family and the village folk have been critical of Babbehali’s role after the death of Jaspal Singh. A source said Babbehali had not visited the village since then”. Sarabjit Kaur, the mother of the young college student Jaspal Singh, got enraged on seeing the MLA, who had come to the village to seek votes for SAD-BJP candidate and Bollywood star turned politician Vinod Khanna. Gurbachan Singh Babbehali [File Photo] As Babbehali alighted from his vehicle to enter the house of village Sarpanch Gurmeet Kaur, where he was to attend a meeting, Jaspal Singh’s mother Sarabjit Kaur, who was in a house nearby got furious and rushed to flung a chappal on the MLA. The first chappal she flung on the MLA hit his vehicle but seething with anger and accusing him of his partisan role after her son’s death, Sarabjit Kaur flung the second one which hit Babbehali squarely in the face. Babbehali was then escorted to Sarpanch’s house as Sarabjit Kaur continued to vent her anger verbally. The MLA remained there for about half an hour and then left the village. The development was confirmed to YesPunjab.com by none other than Gurcharanjit Singh, the husband of Sarabjit Kaur and the father of late Jaspal Singh. The family and Sikh organisations have all along been accusing Babbehali of trying to cajole or pressurize the family to withdraw the case wherein police officers and lower rung cops were allegedly involved. It is pertinent to mention here that the Punjab government has dropped the charges against Punjab Police Service officers Varinder Pal Singh and Manpreet Singh in above case only yesterday. The above information was submitted by state of Punjab to the Punjab and Haryana high court on Wednesday. The court was informed that the inquiry conducted by retired additional district and sessions judge BC Gupta had concluded that the charges levelled against Varinder Pal Singh, then SSP at Gurdaspur, and Manpreet Singh, then deputy superintendent of police, Gurdaspur, were not found correct. According to YesPunjab.Com “When contacted Babbehali over his mobile, his PA picked the phone to tell that Babbehali could not talk as he was busy attending election meetings”. When reportedly told that YesPunjab.com wanted to talk to him regarding the incident that happened at village Chor Sidhwan, yesterday, his PA said that nothing had happened in the village and people were spreading rumours. 7. Pray truth for all and say Sat Sri Akaal, Dear all and harsharan000 jee, I have been trying to find the combination of the words "Mahima" and "Wahiguru" in Sree Guru Granth Saahib jee since I have read this thread. I was not successful. Thanks for referring the wondrous Sabad from Sree Guru Granth Saahib Jee. (809-17) bilaaval mehlaa 5. Bilaaval, Fifth Mehl: The Vaak is: mahimaa saaDhoo sang kee, sunhu mayray meetaa. This Sabad is not saying "mahimaa Wahiguru kee, sunhu mayray meetaa." Balbir Singh

  8. The point Gurus made is not that Krishna, Rama, Shiva or else is great they said we are all the same. The message resonated by Gurus for all is "Man tu jot sarup hai apna mool pechan" . The true master is not the one with most followers but who makes the most masters.

  9. Thank you Harsharan000, I really respect the view of yourself and Sikhs, there are many similarities to what we believe, and this is indeed rare to find in the world. I am not hurt by your words, and thank you for your consideration when explaining such sentiments to me. It is a very honorable form of liberation when one is able to merge with the Effulgence of The Lord (White Light, Brahmajoyti, Pure Consciousness). And as another very nice Sikh gentleman mentioned in another topic post, there are a few recognized variations of liberation. One mentioned is that one is blessed with similar bodily features as The Lord (Narayana). We also recognize all of these various stages of liberation, so here we have common ground. I can only guess that they are all extremely blissful in their own beautiful way. I think one of the only minor differences (from reading over what you have mentioned as well as posts in other threads) is the feeling of which liberation is most preferable. It may seem absurd, but for the devotee of Sri Krishna there is no greater 'liberation' than to be constantly engaged in His devotional service. This means that although liberation from this material world is our original blissful state, we as devotees would rather be serving and remembering Him through our actions either here or anywhere else in the cosmic creation. That being said, this cosmic creation can also include the Spiritual world. So one may be blessed to continue with seva in the spiritual sky in direct association of The Lord in His bodily form. The devotee of Krishna does not strive for liberation, but rather strives for the deepest loving connection in service to The Supreme. Libration is simply a side effect of one engaging their life towards loving The Lord and providing an opportunity for other souls do to so too. We read in scriptures like Srimad Bhagavatam, that completely liberated souls (the yogi who is able to merge into the Supreme Effulgence at will) are still attracted to hearing the past times of The Lord. They relish the nectar of chanting His Holy Names (Hari Naam), and are often in states of transcendental ecstasy when remembering Him. For these reasons and many more, we chose to remember Krsna in all situations and circumstances (or at least TRY to). We offer our food to Him. We chant His Names throughout the day, and retell stories of His pastimes here. All of these things bring much satisfaction to the devotee. Thank you again for the wonderful conversation~ Hari Bol! Jaya Gauranga! ~Seva

  11. Bhai Sahib Jio, As we know all these are temporary gains. All people with blood on their hands of innocents suffer mental prison sentences; whether they show it or not in public is irrelevant. In the next world the real sentence begins. ਪਉੜੀ ॥ पउड़ी ॥ Pa▫oṛī. Pauree: ਆਪੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗਿ ਕੈ ਹੋਇ ਭਸਮੜਿ ਭਉਰੁ ਸਿਧਾਇਆ ॥ आपीन्है भोग भोगि कै होइ भसमड़ि भउरु सिधाइआ ॥ Āpīnĥai bẖog bẖog kai ho▫e bẖasmaṛ bẖa▫ur siḏẖā▫i▫ā. Enjoying his pleasures, one is reduced to a pile of ashes, and the soul passes away. ਵਡਾ ਹੋਆ ਦੁਨੀਦਾਰੁ ਗਲਿ ਸੰਗਲੁ ਘਤਿ ਚਲਾਇਆ ॥ वडा होआ दुनीदारु गलि संगलु घति चलाइआ ॥ vadā ho▫ā ḏunīḏār gal sangal gẖaṯ cẖalā▫i▫ā. He may be great, but when he dies, the chain is thrown around his neck, and he is led away. ਅਗੈ ਕਰਣੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਵਾਚੀਐ ਬਹਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ॥ अगै करणी कीरति वाचीऐ बहि लेखा करि समझाइआ ॥ Agai karṇī kīraṯ vācẖī▫ai bahi lekẖā kar samjẖā▫i▫ā. There, his good and bad deeds are added up; sitting there, his account is read. ਥਾਉ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਪਉਦੀਈ ਹੁਣਿ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਕਿਆ ਰੂਆਇਆ ॥ थाउ न होवी पउदीई हुणि सुणीऐ किआ रूआइआ ॥ Thā▫o na hovī pa▫uḏī▫ī huṇ suṇī▫ai ki▫ā rū▫ā▫i▫ā. He is whipped, but finds no place of rest, and no one hears his cries of pain. ਮਨਿ ਅੰਧੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ मनि अंधै जनमु गवाइआ ॥३॥ Man anḏẖai janam gavā▫i▫ā. ||3|| The blind man has wasted his life away. ||3||

  12. Of course, nobody has said that one gains liberation through veganism and without Naam, lol. That feels like a bit of an insecure reaction if I'm honest.
